The only problem, at least as I'm listening now, is that the bass drum isn't well integrated with the bassline. This isn't easily achieved of course, but most producers can do it. I'm guessing this would be inaudible when heard live, 'cause the bassline would be thicker and melt into the kick (or vice versa). Nonetheless a very good track!
You need to look deeper, their sound cannot stay the same,Nick suffered a lot after Richie died and he is now producing some very very nice sounds. He kept the name as a tribute to his music partner, who in spirit is still with Nick. Take time out and listen to his latest stuff, better still go see him play live. For me he deserves
..personally i like this sound better than guys like aphex twin, plaid or orb or whatever..its just my own taste though..i don't they need to try harder..im sure enough work was put into this..those guys are more known because their music is more song like instead of tracky with the typical 4/4 boom boom boom boom like this...
plaid, monolake better?..no..just because they do not do dance like music doesn't make them better producers at all..and equipment doesnt really mean shit..too many people put too much emphasis on whether a person is using a labtop or a hard DAW with a moog synth..i use a computer myself and analog sampling methods like turntables and old video games, tape cassetes and vhs
I understand what you mean, but tbh I'm more interested in quality and creativity of the music than the production itself. Quality of production says nothing at all about this.
What I think is that indeed music like this has a small share of fans (mostly dj's), so there's no money in it. I don't think these guys are lesser producers, but they just don't have the equipment of producers that serve the bigger masses.
A small share of fans?? In spain no...maybe they do not wish to server the bigger masses, maybe it´s not about money but creativity. something good always comes out of a crises

this track is not about production - its just raw techno - respect all the way to the late richard polson for this..
and i would say take the time out to see nick (65d mavericks) playing these days, far stronger than many artist u say and most out there,
its not about the masses its about those who no, it is an underground scene, but that gives appeal... surface records is still pushing techno/electro

I think you have a right idea, open your eyes people music changes , even electronic/techno,

Shame they can't produce as well as say Plaid, Monolake or Fourtet because there's the beginnings of some nice ideas here.
Why do the best producers gravitate away from harder more dance oriented productions towards more armchair 'late junction' territory?
Sounds like it was made on an old Atari running notator by an amateur in about 1995. Perhaps it was? How many copies sold? 400?

Likewise I understand what you are saying. I actually like stuff like this quite a lot but find it is more limited than it really ought to be in 2008.
Plaid/Aphex Twin/Clark/Fourtet for example do most of their productions on laptops but get a more sophisticated sound.
Electroacoustic composers like Dennis Smalley use little more than a portable DAT recorder and a pro-tools set up.
I really think in the nicest possible way they need to try a bit harder.

You have no idea what you are on about, the equipment in the 65D was and is extensive.
You sound like some bitter ass who never made it/anything.
You`ve followed these old tracks around makingsimilar stabby little posts little man.
Why so bitter?
