  • I love Ray and this is my favorite of all his songs. I've got the song memorized by heart now. I was starting to lose faith in the music scene, but we have Ray; like a pearl that was found inside an oyster from the sea's floor.

  • Just adding to the convo....beautiful rendition of of a truly beautiful and well and properly written song and set of lyrics. Thank You for the post.

  • @HeyHeyGangsta ... Just in case you're not kidding...This is, without a doubt, not a wedding song...

  • @Laralu12 While it's definitely not a "dance at your wedding" type tune, it is the story of a man taking a widow for his wife; which is pretty damn romantic if you ask me.

  • ..so beautiful.. ;-)

  • ive never been one to leave youtube comments but i have to let it out, I saw him at royal albert hall and it was the most incredible feeling. You can tell these songs are a story behind a mans life, they arnt just words to make a hit or just have material. This is a mans heart and soul being transformed into music, Ray gives me hope that there are still musical genius's out there who can transform the world. More than any other moment in my life, he transformed me into a new man in just 2 hours.

  • This is, without doubt, gonna be my first dance when I get married. :)

  • @HeyHeyGangsta In that case, I will gladly marry you : )

  • tickets to see this guy are like 150 bucks. I saw Kiss and aerosmith together for less than that

  • @drewsky684 Uh.. where? Tickets are $35 for him, David Gray, and Tift Merrit near me. So...

  • wow, that was so friggin awesome.

  • Wow... wow... he sounds better live than the album recording. Or...just as good. ..Just wow man.

  • Notice there are no dancers. No costumes. No fancy lights. No skimpy outfits. No bouncing around the stage. This is real music. When you have real music that stands on its own, the other is not needed.

  • This goes right through your soul...

  • One of the best voices I've ever heard. Love Ray and his songwriting.

  • I LOVE THIS SONG and this artist. I cannot get enough of him....he is incredible. Just listen...

  • The days grow short as the nights grow long.

The kettle sings its tortured songs.

A many petaled kiss I place upon her brow.

Oh my lady, lady I am loving you now.

Yes Ray,oh Ray I am loving you now.

  • He is killing me softly with his song.

  • Luv ya Ray!!!! Don't change a single thing because you and your music is great. Has anyone looked up the lyrics? They are beautiful. When I hear this song I melt into a puddle. It reminds me of growing up in the country.

  • Unbelievable! As articulate as I think I may be, I cannot describe how amazing this guy is. I'm almost compelled to just yell expletives really loud in excitement as I listen!

  • his voice is breathtaking

  • Hauntingly beautiful

  • This song makes my heart melt.

  • Cannot wait for the fall tour. Solo acoustic...gonna be fun. See ya's on the road.

  • What a wonderful, gifted, and totally inspired artist Ray is. As with Altea9 below, it is rare for music to bring me to tears and yet Ray is able to enter that special room in my heart time and time again.

  • anyone know what guitar ray is playing. think he plays martin d28, and d35. which one is this?

  • He can play a shoebox with fishing line streched across it and make it sound good.

  • D-28. A 35 has a white-bound fingerboard.

  • this song stunned wolverhampton a few weeks ago

  • love, love, love this song

  • i love this song i love this song yeah i love this song

  • Saw him for the first time in Michigan and I could barely contain my excitement. He is brilliant and this is my favorite song off of Gossip in the Grain. I was so happy to see him get exposure on Saturday Night Live. AMAZING

  • saw him in nottingham and he was amazing, this song is so much better live, could hear a pin drop; he has an amazing ability to capture everyone in the audience with songs like these. nice video.

  • Yeh, was exactly the same in Glasgow. Breathtaking.

  • I saw him last night in Glasgow's Royal Concert Hall. He sang Jolene, Burn and then this, all solo...and I had tears in my eyes for every one of them. There aren't too many performers out there who can reduce a grown man to tears simply by the beauty of his voice, and the passion in his soul.

For anyone out there who hasn't seen him live yet, no recording can do this man justice, you have to experience it for yourself.

Great video, thanks for sharing it with us.

  • Could have really done without the heckles, though

  • going to see him in feb too, can't wait!!!

  • going to see him in feb, looking forward to this!!!

  • Thank you!!. This Oct. 1st show was especially meaningful. My boyfriend proposed during my favorite song, "Empty." Any chance anyone out there has Empty recorded from this night? I would be eternally grateful...

  • he is amazing live. very messianic with the beard an all. nice to hear a acoustic guitar set up properly sound wise.

  • I am so in love with this man's music. I don't think anything has ever touched me quite like ray lamontagne.

  • thank you.....beautiful

  • The winter birds have come back again,

    Here the sprightly Chickadee

Gone now is the Willow Wren

In passing greet each other as if old, old friends

    And to the voiceless trees

It is their own they will lend

    perfect!!

  • Just saw him perform in Seattle yesterday. This song made everyone around me cry, the best thing I've ever heard live!!

  • Amazing! Can't wait for him to play London in Feb 2009.

  • this man is amazing. i really need to get to one of his concerts.

  • ya you do.

  • this song is beautiful! <3

  • this song stunned new york city last night

  • This song stunned Boston last night!

  • Yes it's my fav on the new album, by far! Spine-tingling goosebumps indeed. Once again, Ray has painted his Masterpiece. I'll see him in a few days. We should all feel lucky to be alive and witness Ray. Best thing since Cat Stevens. I no longer care that Yusuf hasn't toured the US in 30 years. It's all about Ray now, and I agree, he's in a league of his own. He is the best thing that ever happened to music.

  • First off, I have never been to a Ray Lamontagne show. Going Oct. 18th to Atlanta at the Tabernacle. Second, I am sure he want let me down because of what GoodCatGoneBad said. Third, "Winter Birds" is stunning. I got goosebumps from the first note. Finnally, He is in a class all on his own. I am so glad he is not so mainstream. It is good to see an "artist". If I can only see Damien Rice too, I could die a happy man.

  • I saw Ray for the first time last night in Boston and he was incredible. I've been lucky enough to see Damien Rice play 3 times and he's just as good. Hopefully he'll come back to the US in 09 with a new album. I hope you do get to see him 'cause it's a special thing...

  • Ray LaMontagne is like Jesus with a guitar!

  • WOW.....waves of goosebumps. Likely will be my fave track on the new CD.

  • so stoked, im going to the nashville concert the 19th is he amazing live?

  • put it this way.....I've seen him 11 times and have never been let down.

  • for real... wow, i am way jealous. i like him so much i am going by myself :) lame i know!

  • stunning! i must have been sitting pretty close to you...looks like it was videoed from right where I was sitting

  • This is going to be my favorite song on Gossip in the Grain! Thanks so much for putting this up!

  • Legend!!
