  • Nice review! It really does look like LOZ II, didn't even know a game like this existed.

  • I'm currently working on a remix of the title screen song, which is almost the same as the ending song, which you used in the beginning of this great video. :)

  • @SpaceNinja88 Awesome, this game can surely use some more remixes. It has a some good tracks. It's curious seeing only a few remixes have been made from the soundtrack. Would love to hear yours once it's done.

    Thanks for watching :).

  • Well, it's not quite finished, but it can be listened at bit(dot)ly/y3hCym

  • This game was really fucking good.

  • @Myshkin1980 Indeed, it was! Thanks for watching :).

  • Wow, this looks really good Seb, I going to give it a go over the weekend, thanks, great review :)

    Joel

  • @TheLastGamertube Thanks Joel! I'm sure you'll enjoy this one, although it might be a bit hard to get into at first, once you get it going you'll be in for a fun ride!

  • Excellent review sir. This is definitely one of those NES games that people barely talk about. I'll have to add this one to my collection.

  • @superdeeduper51 You won't be sorry, it's a fun game and tends to be cheap to pick up :)

  • When is there a new vid coming up?

  • @ChosenBlood1 Hope soon, sorry it's taking some long, needed a bit of a break.

  • Where you got to seb ?

  • to bad this game was foreshadowed in the usa. i like it more than zelda 2!

  • Picked this up on ebay last year for 99p :) Another quality review seb Keep it up my friend And happy new year

  • Whats your next review

  • @timeteam1982 Will be a CD-i game... sorry that it's taking so long, haven't been feeling that great lately.

  • @HalfBlindGamer no prob dude take your time hope you feel well soon

  • It's about time Seb! I love your retro reviews. Please do more this year! I agree this is a cool and underrated game. I picked it up awhile back for a couple of bucks and was pleasantly surprised.

  • I had that game and I also think its better then Zelda 2. I used to have it as a kid and me and my brother eventually beat it. Zelda 2 is near impossible tough. Faxanadu is also similar to this sub genre (side scrolling action-adventure) and my favorite of the three.

Good Review, keep up the good work! Ill post this on my website.

  • Rygar is another great NES game that had to do with Greek mythology, but not in a really direct way.

  • @osurpless Ah man, I completely forgot about Rygar, you're right there. That does take some bits out of Greek mythology.

  • @HalfBlindGamer Which is strange that they changed the newer Rygar game into Roman mythology.

  • Battle of Olympus, while not superior to Zelda II IMO, is a deeply underrated game. The story's great, the music is awesome (feels like it was written by Yuzo Koshiro often) and the gameplay definitely has some unique changes from Zelda II.

Crete is full of annoying monsters and annoying Ares. Now we know where God of War got its idea!

I also laugh at how Orpheus visits Troy in this game, yet Artemis lives there. Subtext...

  • Thanks for this great review. And yes, this NES gem is also in my collection (along with Kid Icarus and the not so bad Zelda 2). Battle of Olympus is a really nice - like you said far away from perfect. But the dialogs are much better and more useful than in Zelda 2. But I died so many times in the pits - more than in Castlevania 1. This game isn't a Battletoads but it's still not a breeze. Anyway as a NES fan this game has to be in your collection. It's really worth it.

  • @MrVenom1974 Thanks for watching and for sure, this game is no walk in the park. It can be very challenging at certain spots, but it's often named as one of the hardest games on the NES and that isn't the case either. I've beaten this game a couple of times, Zelda II I never finished though. I like it, but man does that game also piss me off eventually haha.

  • An excellent review of a classic NES game:-)

  • Olives! Om NOM NOM NOM

My mom bought it for christmas just a few years ago, I was 24 at that time X-) Great review on focusing on the music and the theme of the game. In my opinion, the beginning of the game is a bit tedious; if you walk the wrong way, you get your ass kicked by anyone you come across. The first half an hour is a bit of a stretch but then it gets awesome!

You sound Dutch by the way. Are you?

  • @Timeticker True, when starting out you really need to watch your steps, as that small lifebar is drained really fast! Plus... some of those areas you can wander to early aren't too friendly haha. It's pretty open, which is pretty cool as well.

As for your second question... geboren en getogen Rotterdammer ;)

  • Yeah I love this game.. I found it in a box at my friends house asked if I could have it he said sure , he had just got a PlayStation so he didn't want it. THANK you Dave for giving me this great game... Thanks for the review I think I will go play it right now!!! Your cool Seb...

  • @Ziggy7800Pro Thanks for the kind words :) That pretty cool that you could have the game like that. I know that this one one of the games I missed the most when I got rid of my NES, it was also one of the first I bought back when I got back into retro games. Still really glad that I got my original copy back though :).

  • Don't think I've ever seen this game before or I have seen it in the wild a million times but didn't know what it was till now. Looks pretty good I'll have to look for it now. It's probably not too rare is it?

  • @MN12BIRD I honestly don't know how rare it really is, but I do see it come up occasionally and it doesn't seem to fetch high prices (no real demand for it either I guess). It's very much worth it, if you see it again for a couple of bucks, definitely grab it! It's a lot of fun :).

  • Awesome review! This is a personal favorite of mine and it was great to see it put into a positive light for a change.

  • @austinmackert Thanks man! And yeah, this game deserves some positive coverage! Not sure why it's not more popular, it's truly one of my favorites as well :).

  • Good review, Seb! :)

Yeah, there're a LOT of similarities between this and the Adventure of Link, for sure.

Interesting that they have an ocarina in this game...and a harp. Makes me wonder whether the creators of Zelda subconsciously took inspiration from this game...lol. :P

Sorry to hear you got demotivated, I think most of us did at some stage this year. Here's hoping we can turn the tide for 2012.

Looking forward to some new reviews/Let's Plays and Happy New Year, Seb! Have a good one! :D

  • @AtsumaKarin Thanks Ben :)

Haha, yeah that ocarina is pretty cool. Zelda made it a popular instrument, but it wasn't the first game to have it as a useful item! Having instruments in the game is actually a clever way to tie in somewhat with the source material, as Orpheus was known for his music/songs. Very odd that they would give him a harp though, as that's rather inaccurate (should be a lyre), as well as who gives it. Ah I'm looking into it too much!

  • I had this on the GB all those years ago, and I was absolutely crap at it. No idea if it was the same as the NES one here, because I never got far enough! That, and some swine took it and moved house. The shit.

  • @DeimosComaBlack I have never played the GB version myself, but it seems like it's mostly the same, but that's not saying much.

    Sucks that someone nicked it!

  • great review! great game! great memories! great ending to the vid! Please more NES game Reviews.

  • @djfrijoles Thanks, I'll do my best to bring some more NES love onto the channel in the future :)

  • Awesome game and yet so underrated.

  • @ViceCommando So true, never understood why...

  • Great review. I picked this up back in the day and still have my original copy of it. It's a great game. Used to play it a lot but for some reason never finished it. I really should give it another shot.

  • @retroswede Thanks!

Yeah, I'd say have another go at it :) It's not the easiest game out there, but it's pretty enjoyable!

  • Ya the passwords were a bitch I was always lucky guy owned mine before me oddly did write the passwords 100% just like in game in the booklet helped me alot when I was a kid xD

  • @AtticusMJ They cost me some time back then, pissed me off! More games had this problem, but this one in particular made me replay some parts a couple of times because the password was not written down correctly.

  • @ChosenBlood1 Thanks, same to you Mark :)

  • I hated those passwords too.

  • @starsoldier1 Man, they are the worst! I remember getting decently far and asking my dad to write it down and his Il1 all looked the same! Was so pissed back then lol.

  • Just four? You forgot Athena, my friend! :D Extremely loosely based sure, but still :) And back in japan, the famicon gave birth to the best rpg-series of all time, The Glory of Heracles! ;)

Excellent review, I think you covered everything! :)

Ugh, those darn dolphin rides.. Never liked those! But besides those, this is actually one of my favs! And yes, I too would say that its a better game than Zelda II. Its extremely polished!

  • @TanukiKGA I didn't forget Athena, it's the bottom right one, but that font on the box is nearly impossible to read! I couldn't come up with any more than those four, which surprised me somewhat.

The Glory of Heracles I have never even heard of.. I'm not that well versed in the ways of the Famicom though. Does there happen to be a fan translation for it, so that I can give it a try?

Thanks a lot man, glad you liked it and it's nice to not burn alone once the Zelda fanboys get here!

  • @HalfBlindGamer

*facepalms* Sorry mate, for some reason I thought that was the boxart for Legendary Wings. I worked 16 hours last night, so Im gonna go ahead and blame it on being tired ;) But Legendary Wings was another one that was inspired by greek mythology! :)

There is! Its rather arcaic to be honest, but the setting is what does it for me! There was even a sequel on the DS, in english! Its like.. the fifth part, but they are all stand alone adventures :)

  • @HalfBlindGamer

Glory of Heracles could more or less be called "what if Final Fantasy took place in greece instead of a fantasy land". They both have the same feel to them :)

  • Seb branching out !! Great to see you reviewing other stuff in your style. Don't blame you either dude.. there's only so much CDi stuff you can cover without totally losing your mind ;-)

  • @mathowlett Oh yeah! CD-i stuff can make you go mad for sure haha. I will endure more of it as well, but it's great to break the mold and do other (good) stuff as well :).

  • cool review :D never herd of this one but will keep an eye out for it if i see it going cheap

  • @davidhass3lh0ff It's definitely worth it and shouldn't go for too much. A great game, kind of tough, but rewarding as well!

  • Fantastic review. I never heard of this game before but it looks great.

  • @TheLoadingScreenz If you get the chance, be sure to check it out, it's very much worth it and holds up pretty well for its age!

  • this game kicked my ass

  • @paridisegrowth The game is pretty challenging at certain parts, especially Phthia! That area is treacherous!

  • Nice to see a new review from you, Seb!

I never played this game. But I may check this out now when I can.

  • @SPac316 Thanks a lot SPac! It's great to be making a new review again and putting it out there. They are so much more fulfilling then gameplay video's, but they take a while longer to produce :(.

If you get the chance, this game is really worth it to check it out. I'm not too sure how rare they are, but I don't think it fetches a very high price (at least not over here in Europe).

  • This is a fantastic game. I had trouble with it when I was little and didn't beat it until I got a bit older but had fun. Wonderful review buddy.

  • @gentlevader Thanks a lot man :).

Yeah, the game took me a good while to beat as well. It can be pretty challenging!

  • Great review . I never played it. And I probly want because I got no nes and don.t want to use virtual console . I like dome of the background depth on some of the levels

  • @timeteam1982 I'm actually not sure if this game is out on the VC... but I do know it's also available on the GameBoy. I've never played that version myself, but it seems mostly the same. That depth might be lost without the colors though...

  • Awesome Review, I truly forgot about this game, I do remember seeing it at the local video rental store back in the day, but personally I would always go for something like TMNT, BattlleToads, or something like that. I will for sure have to give this one a go, If I ever come across it again. :-)

  • @clays121 Thanks man, glad you liked the review :).

It's a fantastic game and I'm really happy to have gotten it. It was a gift from my parents back in the day, no idea how they got it, but it's the Scandinavian version. So I could never read the manual, which was the first place you looked when stuck back then haha. Luckily the game itself is in English!

I'm not sure how rare it is, but I don't think it's too expensive and well worth the pick up if you ever come across it!
