Hey, um from the videos i've seen, I'm amazed by your work! I'm actually starting to get into the "world of photography" haha but it was all because of my dad. However i do love photography but i'm obviously starting off small with a d40 camera :( but i'm planning to upgrade to a better one later on. so yeah i like the tips you put on your videos and i hope that i become as great as you! :)
@TheStig000 Despite my earlier reply to l33thustia, your post I actually agree with—with a caveat. You can indeed learn photography outside of school and plenty do. Of course taking classes can help as well.
Studying photography at University doesn't give you any advantage in taking good photography... You need trainings, willing and perhaps born with it... if you aren't born to photograph, how much training or studying doesn't help anything :D
@l33thustla "Training"—say, at University? There are plenty of great photography courses. "Born with it"—BS. Some people have talents for specific areas, but most anyone willing to work hard and physically capable can become at least "good" at a discipline.
"No man has the right to dictate what other men should perceive, create or produce, but all should be encouraged to reveal themselves, their perceptions and emotions, and to build confidence in the creative spirit."—Ansel Adams
really well done. Cool thing is you dont need super high end equipment since the shutter is open the whole time. I guess it must be tough to get the timing on the strobe right tho. very cool
@taofledermaus You're confusing burst mode, which can grab a shot during continuous motion, with super-high-speed photography, which can freeze action of extremely short durations. The former is useful in finding the "right" frame among several for something like a ballet move or an unfolding explosion, whereas the latter is necessary to show the detail of a single instant during an exploding balloon or water droplet. It's a question of frame *interval* vs frame *duration*—not the same!
@taofledermaus That being said, you don't need expensive tools to do high-speed photography; building a cheap sonic flash trigger is a fun DIY project, and all you need is any camera with a bulb or long exposure mode.
This is great. Thanks for sharing. Just one question. I have pocket wizards but I am unsure how manually pressing the pocket wizard will get the exact moment. Surely the delay of you guessing the moment would miss the action. Forgive me if I have misunderstood the whole thing. I am a newbie! ahha
this video is excellent chase, for the past 2 nights running my friend and i have done this but out in a park using distance to create black and a hand held speedlite from the side for lighting. worked fantastic!!
Great video as always! 1 question about when you refer to shorter duration strobes any particular type of strobe? If you reduce the power on a strobe you get shorter bursts compared to full power correct?
Yes, strobes fired at a lower output have shorter flash duration (aka fire "faster"). No particular strobes...I'm using Profoto 7A, but same applies across the board.
@achaser123 i m using my bowens espirit 500 Monohead pair (plugged directly) and i m nt able to freeze water....does it necessarily needs a battery pack/generator to get that flash duration to freeze water?
at first I thought I forgot to stop itunes, but then I realised that actually NIN were the background music ; ) nice work, thanks for sharing

I really wish to know how did you isolate water from its background!

@tamim4ever In photoshop layer styles, there is a section called "Blend If." this allows you to toggle a solid colour in the photo.

You don't need to go to school to learn that stuff. It's all out there if you look.

I like to use burst mode with my camera. Seems to work without a ton of expensive hardware and a giant crew.
