  • Ummm You're gonna replace those bamboo? IDK. I've never grown grapes but have you ever tried to untangle a plant that wraps? I once had a watermelon grow through garden screen. It was IMPOSSIBLE to untangle. The only way I could free the screen was to cut the plant. I lost quite a bit of vine. I'd say when growing climbers, make your fixture permanent. Nice video. I may use this for my indoor cantaloup. :)

  • unrelated to video but do you use fertilizer for your indoor garden if so which plants and how do you know which ones need it ohh and how often... I missed your free seed share will you be doing another ?? thanks great vids.

  • @LuvHealthNConception I usually use rich enough soil that I don't need to add fertilizer often. But when I need a boost for my plants I use compost tea or worm tea. You can tell when the plants need a shot of fertilizer when they start putting out smaller leaves and slowing down.

ps: I'll be doing another seed giveaway if I can afford it. I use the adsense income generated from my videos.

  • @Praxxus55712 okay thanks for all the tips :) but i have learned the more of your videos i watch the more questions get answered but thanks

  • I'm going to use your grape idea for my cucumbers. Wish me luck!

  • Love this! Just subscribed to your channel - please keep making videos! :-)

  • You are such a funny guy and I am totally enjoying your videos! So great ideas! :)

  • I LOVE IT~ Great Ideas you have! Thank you for sharing!

  • Seed Train? Awesome!!!

  • great video!! whats that plant behind you left @5:30?

  • @vnswamy2008 That monster is an oak ivy that I got as a teeny tiny plant many years ago. It tends to dominate a room doesn't it? :)

  • Sharing seeds, so awesome

  • I believe all you need to do is write "seeds no commercial value" on the back of the padded envelope when you mail overseas. You could call a seed supplier and ask them.

  • Very interesting - I hadn't thought of working with vining plants that way inside. I'm going on my 3rd year for grape vines outside and am hoping this is the year they finally do something.

  • Looks like a rak of samurai swords :) cool!

  • Is it legal to send seeds from one country to another? If little stems sprout below or between the horizontal bars that you are training the grapes to, do you pinch them out or just leave them?

  • @anniequilts Good question. I couldn't find any official government site that prohibits individuals from sending tiny quantities of seeds. The only restrictions I noticed were for seed supply companis that ship lots of seeds.

I think I'll keep all side shoots clipped except the main ones I'm training. Once the main stems have grown as long as they can indoors, I might allow a few side shoots to grow in order to build woody stem material to strengthen the plant.

  • What type of plant is growing behind you to the left at the 3 minute mark?

  • Random Question: I know you mentioned that you have wild blueberries somewhere on your property, but do you plan on growing some in your garden this year or in your house?

  • Nice!! but will it bear fruits!? Hey you know the ones you see in vineyards are trimmed to be small to, so they could fit in a house I guess.

  • you should do the gmg thing with the turkeys instead of the lion roaring you have a turkey gobbling. LOLOLOL

I am not sure grape vines will work in my zone (3a) In the house maybe if the dogs dont eat it.

Maybe I will try it this year. My garden is growing so it might be nice to try and see if it works.

  • Looks nice Ray. I made a trellis similar to this, but with two 4ft rods and a 2ft rod across the top. Then i tied trellis netting onto it and made a mini trellis for my 3ft peas grown in a container.

  • @ASFx2600 Netting is a very nice adition for peas!

  • Nice vid!always make me smile when i see all them crazy things you do indoors=)

  • Actually, I'm surprised you didn't grow that bamboo yourself! LOL Another very cool video! I think it would be awesome if we can see your plants under your grow lights. A little behind the scenes video if you will. Oh! And I was wondering about your thoughts on smart pots?

  • In your new house, you should set up attached greenhouse to give you more room.

  • great video ray!

  • Hi Ray; Merry Xtmas and HNY 2011. Apologies for late Greetings

Few weeks back, you commented [Good questions by the way], which eased that I was not wasting your time - hope am not with this one-lol):

I have 5 beautiful “Ovale” Pots, where I plan to have 2 plants in each- But, as I was working with some “magnets”, I got suspicions: Would Multiple Plants fight for food, and/or space -OR- grow in peace? If so, are there any limitations? Have to be the same type? Age? etc

    Peace, Hatem

  • @hatemtube It all depends on the types of plants and size of the pots. Some plants have very invasive root systems and can easily strangle out weaker root systems of more passive plants. One way to keep plants living as happily as possible in a confined space is to prune them back as much as practical. This decreases root growth. Also make certain they're watered and fed enough. This also keeps roots from being as agressive in the hunt for sustanance. :)

  • The plant beside the fireplace is beautiful ! It is so healthy. Thanks Mr. Greenjeans, for another great video.

  • Hey Ray! It looks like what you're shooting for in training the plant to have these regimented lateral shoots is called 'espalier.' Wikipedia has a good article on it and Google images will kick up a bunch of neat patterns that people have trained plants into using the espalier method. I just didn't know if you'd ever run across this.

  • @gekizai Espalier! I knew the process, but just couldn't remember the word. I hate it when I can't remember something I used to know. Thanks for the reminder. You're right though. Espalier is the process I was demonstrating. :)

  • *chuckling* You built a grow-light assembly, and you claim your building skills are terrible?

  • Bamboos are excellent plant. They are very strong and useful for everything. In Asia, it's very popular. Bamboo flooring, roof, furnitures, curtains, everything can be made with bamboo.

  • I have been trying to find your mail adress but cant find it anywhere... so how do i get it? :)

  • @TheDomoaregato You can contact me by emailing me here at Youtube if you need to contact me for something.

  • now I know what to do with the bean plants I stared on Christmas. What is that fabulous plant you have to the left of your fire place?

  • @preparedchipmunk That's an ancient Oak Ivy. It's HUGE! It was just a sprout when I bought it back in 2004.

  • Has the vine killed you yet?

  • What kind of things do you hear through your grape vine ?

  • Oh and btw, I looked at some of the various real estate pages your house was listed under, as well as the "competing" houses. And I have to say, the only real disadvantage your house has is that it's a little smaller than the rest. But it stiil looks great, and combined with your acreage and general privacy it can't be beat.

  • So that's what you were doing with that bamboo. Great Idea, and like you said, very aesthetic. The cotton string was a great idea; since as a casual fisherman in my spare time I am all too aware of the nuisance and abrasiveness of nylon. Let me join in on the endless praise your videos recieve as it is all so well deserved.

  • Hi Ray, bamboo frame building - I used to use string but I'm not coordinated enough to hold bamboo in place and tie string at the same time so, now, I use plastic cable ties. They are quick, strong and don't rot. I cut the tails off and they kinda disappear and keep my conscience clear until I have to cut them off later and bin them.

    Best Wishes, Brendan.

  • I used Bamboo to make a stand for my snow peas. I made a 5x5x5 three sided box and hung garden net from it so that it can stand up. After 6 months of Oregon weather it is still holding up GREAT.

  • It looks like hops to me.

  • Thanks for your support on the seed program! Please keep it up for just a little while longer! I have a feeling I'm going to be mailing out a LOT of seeds! LOL

    sounds like fun, seed trading!

  • @psychodelicdragon Voodoogarden is my other channel.

  • great vid, your grapes seem to bee coming along :D
