Correct observation however on all American cars, the date code on the tail light lenses can be the same for a multitude of years when the same lense design is used, the introductory year is the one you will find. i.e.- 68 tail lights in a 69 or 70 tail lights in a 72.
Wish I could answer that but I can't. I think they started it in the late 40's? I'm not sure if the same thing exists today but all lenses have a code on them that probably contains the date of manufacture.
oh this has gone on for awhile, i know Ford has done this since the 40s at least on all there parts of the car/truck, i think the 2000s they stopped and came up with a different system, i know you can go up to the 90s with Fords, i will be making a video on how you id a Ford part, from taillights to every part on the car with a part number on it, even engines! and this is a great tip Gene, a lot of cars can be dated by there taillights, if not in design, but also a date in the part number
