Season one was indeed better than the second maybe if they do a reboot they'll make it as season 2 never happening an pick up where season one left off. I really hope they do a reboot of this series it had potential even with it's flaws.
Oh for God sack your complete an utter idiot for saying that. Are you winding me up? Why? Because that's was taken from a short excerpt from an episode, where Koenig fires his laser gun at something. The entire intro, if it didn't escape your notice when you were watching it, was made up of these from the series.
Mind you it does seem that you've got 32 other morons that have agreed with you.
@sosidecop64 It does, in the pilot episode the moonbase crew watches a news report about gravity disruptions as well as earthquakes in California, Southern France and the Balkan peninsula after the moon has left Earth's orbit. Furthermore, the tides will cease and the Earth's axis will start to destabilize, so yes, humanity is in for a rough ride.
Somebody called him 'John' instead of Caommander I reckon.... probably Paul, or may Victor was hassling him as to why he was written out of the second series...
From what I know, there isn't a 'clean' version of the theme WITHOUT the 'futuristic' sound quality.... :(
The sound of this memorable music performance was captured by microphones, then 'processed' by electronic means BEFORE it got to the tape recorder to be saved for use/posterity.
Perhaps it could be re-recorded 'clean' and by copying this performance as much as possible.
Just imagine a CD-quality 'clean' version of this! :D
I agree with "paktype," season 2 was a disaster. My favorite episode of the series is season 1's "The Infernal Machine," with Leo McKern as companion to and voice of an intelligent space ship - that episode can hold its own against *any* Trek episode ever.
Totally outlandish show. A nuke big enough to blow the moon out of orbit would blow it into itty bitty pieces. And they would have to be moving at a pretty good clip to, not only break Earth orbit, but to encounter so many planets in so short a time. It's only redeeming elements? Martin and Barbara. Not to mention Cathrine Schell and Barry Morse. Kudos to the special efx folks, too. Other than that, crap.
@WC3POchannel10A Don't think I didn't try. I sat and watched the pilot when it first aired. Had high hopes for a new space series since Star Trek was canceled. I watched every week, but...
wow, a guy who randomly shoots people in his office, a woman who winsomely wanders the walkways (say THAT three times fast!) and an alien girl who turns into... terrestrial animals? this show had everything!
I'm 45, too, and I loved this show as a kid! It was a mind-blowing concept that the moon could be torn from its orbit around the Earth. I always thought this intro was by far the best.
I'm 45 and I have entire show on dvd...(i was crazy for both seasons back in mid 1970s...) if you love catherine schell you must see a movie called "moon zero two" (hammer 1970) a+...love this music!...(commander konig shoots hand laser when he divorced doctor russell! lol)
So, at 0:20, Koenig just spins around in his chair for no explicable reason and fires his laser staple-gun —in the Command Centre. What are we to gather from this? That Koenig eventually took to randomly gunning down members of his staff whenever he got bored?
@Internetizen02 - actually, it was just an action shot filmed for the credits. The scene in The Exiles took place in Koenig's quarters and he was standing. When he turned, it was slowly.
@LordZontar Exactly what I was thinking... This is Season 2. It's the "Americanized" and "Actiony" Space: 1999. If you want a philosophical debate BEFORE vaporizing someone, you'll have to turn to Season 1.
@LordZontar I guess that explains what happened to Victor, but where did Tony come from in season 2? Much better character, and yes I know why they added him, but they never explained it. Where was he all through season 1 (cleaning bathrooms like Chekov)?
@shmuli9 It was on at 1 PM Eastern time in America in the late 70's and very early 80's. Frequency of broadcast slowly decreased until you only saw the odd "movie" (both parts of a To Be Continued episode) until is was no more. A part of me died that day.
@IWannabeJew It was on in prime time here (on ABC)... I used to have all the episodes on DVD. Some of the episodes form the 1st season were VERY scary as kid, and some of them still give me the chills as an adult...
Season one was indeed better than the second maybe if they do a reboot they'll make it as season 2 never happening an pick up where season one left off. I really hope they do a reboot of this series it had potential even with it's flaws.

If the moon goes tear-assing out into space, doesnt that spell doom for the inhabitants of Earth?
