so glad I ran into this - brings back many memories. Hangtown and Magoo was classic MX - thanks for posting this. And Bad Brad was indeed bad. He calls Magoo crazy and that's true, but Bad didn't get his name by riding, um, safe all the time.
I think it is Great that people have not forgotten Magoo he was a genuine person that loved racing till the day he left us. However currently Danny Magoo does not have a Headstone at his grave site where his fans, friends and Family can visit there hero please contact dannymagoo com or e-mail davegomez1618@ gmail com any contributions would be greatly appreciated Thank you International Riders Helping People.inc

Magoo came to Salt Lake City's Boneville Moto-X track back in the late 70s or early 80s. He was a big name by then, and I was shocked that he was there. The track was rather simple but had one BIG jump (plaza). He launched OFF that like he was evil knievel. Someone tell me why he was there...
While his fearless style is what made him so admired, His final crash footage makes you realize what a fine line there is in safety. I am proud he was a part of the Motocross Des Nations team.
The part where Magoo takes the far outside off the sweeper in a wheelie, roosting is classic. He was a special rider and it's a terrible thing that he has passed on. If you want to read about him and what he did after his paralysis, google Danny Magoo Chandler death and Motocross Action's Jody Weisel should come up. It's a really good epitaph for a great rider who did much for motocross and you can see just by his riding how much he loved life. To Magoo's credit, he found life beyond his injury.
bubba blah blah blah, those riders all sucked 3 years ago, they used to go into turns like the keystone cops,I damn near walked out..............i just tracks that look like outdoor supercross tracks also
Brad Lackey!! You're an amazing guy. I've watched this video at least 10 times. I love Danny. And, it's truly inspirational to see you reaching out to help him. I want to do this. I'm inspired to help others.
@bigbean843 No one could hang with Magoo when he stayed on the bike. I never saw a rider who rode with less fear than Danny. He was a unique talent. Bubba is extremely good, but if you threw them both on the bikes Magoo was riding back then, Danny would school him.
Brad,Danny, David and Hannah were the founding fathers of motocross. I grew up watching them all . This sport owes alot to these guys. These men will always be legends of the sport to anyone who ever threw a leg over a dirtbike.
Magoo was my hero,so was hannah and baily, hannah helped kick this along very much and any critisisim is off the mark. Chandler though? he was something else, when he stayed on the bike and was having a good day, he was the fastest rider the world has ever seen,no doubt,,baily was pure smooth, hannah just hated losing like it was poisen, chandler was just fearless and do just try anything no matter how insane to win,,,what a man
@stew179 Good post. As far as Chandler being the fastest? It's impossible to answer. There are lots of legends who are/were called that because their riding was beyond mere mortal. Magoo was one of them. But some of the Europeans, DeCoster, Mikkola, Aberg, Kring and Joel Robert were guys that even Magoo looked up to growing up. One pointer though. Get spell check. And if you have it, use it. I know you don't want to make us motocross fanatics look ignorant, do you?
What a terrific cause...magoo was a great rider , doesn't get any better than helping the kids....excellent work Danny , What a wonderful post , Good work Brad Lackey -still a champion !
I don't believe Danny ever got a chance to use his new van. We miss you you Danny, you are a true hero! I enjoyed talking to you the one time I had the chance.God speed...
Again, this is hard to watch. Going from being an outstanding rider to a guy sitting out in the hot sun in a wheelchair, and probably taking dumps in his pants every day. But with Magoo's riding, I am surprised that he didnt get seriously injured sooner than he did. Be at peace Danny: your legacy lives on.
THANK'S TO "AMA" LEFT OUT "DANNY MAGOO CHANDLER" VERY VERY THANK'S...IT'S WAS A CHAMPION AND HIS LIFE BECOME A SHIT....THANKS "AMA" FOR SUPPORT A CHAMPION MOTOCROSSER.
Danny should also be remembered as the first guy to ever double jump. He has always been that guy to me and it should never be forgotten. After he doubled the uphill at Saddleback, other racetracks started adding double jumps back in the early 80s. This important milestone is being missed everywhere. We should do our best highlight how much he revolutionized the sport.
So sorry to hear about Magoo's passing. But in another way I am relieved. Now he is back racing once again with the likes of Jim West, Gassin' Gaylon Mosier, Jimmy Steele, and the rest of the motocrossers who left us before we had a chance to say goodbye. And there is no question in my mind that there is nothing quite like him up there in Heaven.... just as there was no one like him down here among us. Godspeed, Magoo.
As a fan and a racer I had my favorite racing hero's. I remember reading about this young red haired demon named Magoo, a lot of hype, and he jumped up to the big bores right away. Then saw him ride in person for the first time, Saddleback Park/Maico, "this rider from another planet god help us". Your right Brad we owe him a lot, if you were a local racer during that era that looked up to Danny and wanted to ride just like him-I do not think that was possible. God Speed DMC.
Brad, you just raised your status even higher on my list of all-time favorite riders and you were already #1. You're alright, and I don't care what Bob Hannah said about you (LOL). I was in my early 20s when Magoo was haulin' some SERIOUS ass on the AMA PRO circuit. I remember when MXA first gave us all the heads up on this guy. They were right. He is really something. I will do my part to help out the MAGOO. Thanks Brad.
Brad Lackey This is great again you are the man!! We saw danny at the USGP at Carlsbad the year Marty Moates won it and became the first American to ever win that race.On the downhill ware we were Danny was on a trick ass 4stroke going so very FAST! His feet were off the pegs more that they were on but in compleat control. He was so fun to watch.I will help as much as i can.God Bless you bolth!
Brad, it's a great thing you guys are doing for Magoo and I will put some money in also. You're an absolute legend of the sport and a pioneer for US riders in Europe. I was motocrossing in the 70's & 80's in Australia and we had local heroes but the real deal for us was always the U.S guys like you, Hannah, Glover, LaPorte, Smith, Bailey and of course, Danny Chandler
Yes, he was a factory rider in the late 70s. I have this DVD, it was between Maico and KTM and he went with maico, followed by Honda in the 80s, then KTM.
I remember when Magoo was a local kid racing in No. Cal. He was the fastest and jumped the farthest, but usually crashed. This was back in the mid 70's. Wow, I still remember some of those wrecks. The only guy who could jump like that was Kenny Zart. Might be misspelling the last name. As a Husky rider Brad Lackey was a hero of mine. The first American to take on the Europeans on their own tracks and win. Awesome!!! Keep up the good work...
Hi Brad, My name is Chris Popanz. I grew up in Foresthill & rode with Magoo & his sister Tammy once in a while when he was home. This is an awesome thing you are doing for him. I have watched numerous times at Hangtown & was always amazed at how fast he is and what he can do on a bike. Thank you for doing this for him, its the least we can do for him after all he has done for us. I see him at Fast Fridays in the summertime when he goes. He is still my motocross hero! I will be contributing!!
