My earliest awareness of CR was from Sherrif John's 12 noon M-F show, ch 11 KTTV Los Angeles, with one 4-min episode a day (?), ca 1954-55. Obviously loved it. What an intelligent show for small pre-schoolers. Remember little sections of episodes here and there, but especially the opening and closing 10 Little Indians theme. In 1957-58, NBC ran the last 1-hour series, in color, on Saturday mornings. Again, the much longer themes over the credits were so memorable, i memorized each note.
The various "crusades" (stories), 'blondex', varied in length. The shortest was 10 chapters; the longest was 30. Most of them lasted about 15 episodes...
This was just the FIRST story {"crusade"}, '777', which only lasted 15 episodes. The next one, "Crusader Vs. The Pirates", lasted for 20. In all, there were 195 four minute episodes, with 10 seralized "crusades" of various lengths in all.
Greetings, Joi. (like Joi Lansing, or Marilyn Joi?) Classic cartoons are my life as well, in addition to any music with some imagination to it. Now that I have recently joi-ned the YouTube community, ILFT sharing my views, and once I can upload, sharing clips as well. Have you seen the Hoffnung cartoons on this site? Musicians will love them, though non-musicians will appreciate the reversal gags in some of them.
In the words of H G Wells, The Shape of Things to Come: this series was remarkably visionary.

Back in eps. 7 someone commented the ACLU would hate this cartoon. Here's why they wouldn't.
Crusader Rabbit = ACLU
Rags = The Unwashed Masses
Jack Rabbits = Blacks
Frank Sawbuck = President of US
Texas = Dixie (the South)
Austin, Tx capitol of Tx = Wash. DC

Carrots = Money/Jobs. Taken away from the white man.
Creme Puffs = Welfare. Sell this to the rabbits/blacks and keep them under control and your problems are solved.

Throw in the town of Deadman's Corner (the gun crazy town) to give your next crusade (ACLU's not CR's) a preview = Gun Control.
There are so many others I don't have room for them all. Watch this series again with this in mind and see if you don't agree.

See? That's why i hate this day and age. You can't have a simple fun cartoon for children without people trying to view it as a political tool =/
