I guess you could use a dearmond but you'd have to alter it. I'd put on one of those neck mounts put an end pin jack in the back and set tone and volume at the amp. The neck mount would only require a couple of tiny screws on the sides of the neck, put felt under the pickup, then if you didn't like it or wanted to remove your vintage guitar would be back to normal-cept for the easy to plug screw holes.
It should, but the rod that holds the pickup isn't as long as a guitars so it will sound a lot more trebally or trebalish. The guitar ones allow you to put the pickup all the way up to the end of the neck.
You might want to check out those Armstrong Mini Humbucker types that screw mount to the end of the Neck. Look at a Washburn HB15 they've got them for an example. What kind of guitar are you wanting to amplify?
thank you for the tips, that is really helpful. I had in mind to put on a vintagesounding pickup on my old levin (smallbody), it is very small and do not sound much acoustic.
Is it an old parlor guitar? I'm guessing it must be an archtop. You couldn't use the old dearmond clamp ons on a flat top with a pin / stationary bridge.

would i work to put a mandolin pickup on a hollowbody guitar?

sadly enough it is a flat top, an old levin, looks like the 1910´s style.
