  • thanks for posting This is incredible tech of its time!

  • Wow, talk about uncanny,my Grandfather had this very model and Gleason was always on when we came over on Sunday nights in the early 60's. Although I was was very little at the time, seeing Gleason again on this Zenith is like taking me back in a time machine. Anselme also had a floor model Zenith radio next to his favorite chair and his house always smelled of old paneling and cigars. He had an old GE monitor fridge w/ legs in the kitchen and he drove a '49 ford to the metal shop every day.

  • The greatest episode from the greatest sitcom ever.......thank you, Joe in NH.

  • I really love these old TV's, great picture and love your choice of shows. Thanks.

  • Ralf is the biggest thing on t.v.

  • This is great! Good to see some of the old TV sets restored. My parents had a Philco they bought when they were married in 1956 I think we had it until 1969 when I was 12 years old. Most of my early TV viewing was in black and white.

  • It's very nice to see these old sets functioning perfectly! Thanks for all your hard work.

  • WOW nostalgic

  • @Sygo7g, in all honesty, I'd take living in the fifties over what we live in now. In the 50's the USA was strong, plenty of jobs and I believe it was a simpler, happier time to be an American. The 50's was an amazing decade!

  • That's when the good old USA made high quality machines!! Great vid.

  • I wish I could go to the past...

  • I can only imagine the excitement and pride of being able to own one of these baby's back in the day. That remote must have seemed like magic at the time. Great stuff. Glad you were able to upload this for us all to enjoy!

  • A real television set made by American workers with pride. I bet that set weighs 200 pounds!!! I love the Honeymooners and I never saw a episode on a great old set like this, the two go together perfectly! I think I would of loved living in the 50's, the best time for America! Thanks for the great video!

  • Shes a real beauty, thanks for posting this. Im actually restoring a 57 zenith right now, too bad its not the space command version though.

  • you talk like the television, haha you could have made the video as if the television was talking haha.

  • I wonder if my PS3 and Blu Ray can hook up to this

  • @vap420 You need an RF adapter and a 75/300 ohm adapter in order to view ANY game system or ANY video equipment. You can find those adapters at Radio Shack. I'd rather use an LCD TV instead of a tube TV where you're getting PART of the whole picture.

  • what a WONDERFUL idea!!! I just can't believe you've had it posted for 2 years without my finding it!!! MANY KUDO's for this!!!

  • now how did u get the honeymooners to come on?

  • Too cool...we had a tv like that and my mother painted it white!!

  • This is one of the coolest things i've ever seen! Thank you!

  • One of the greatest episodes <3

  • Baby, you're a genius! And the Honeymooners to boot!

  • It would be funny to see this connected to a converter box

  • Man, no wonder some people used to call the remote control "the clicker" ! 2:26

  • great tv

    i recently bought a 1957 admiral tv/phono combo.

right now everything works as it should, including the tv.

can you tell me about how much it would cost to have

the set recapped and gone over? i have no idea how to

do it myself and not sure where to look? i am in the chicago area too,

    thanks

  • the voice is classic and believable.May God bless your Zenith, sir.

  • why is there a microphone on the TV?

  • its a pickup to pickup the ultrasonic waves that the remote shot out

  • Hey thanks for explaining, that is incredible. There seems to be sooo many types of remote control. Though the Orwellian idea of having a microphone on a TV still raises my suspiscions

  • Comment removed

  • thats what i call a real Tv.

  • technology have comes a long wayyyyy....and space is the limit. :)

  • My uncle had one of these...he loved to fool 6-year-old me by switching channels with the "Space Commander" in the pocket of his baggy 1950s trousers. I thought he was WONDERFUL!!!!

  • I have a space command remote control!

  • Looks great sounds great as well.....

  • I have the box set of the "Classic 39" Episodes of the Honeymooners on dvd.

  • @2point6x4 Same here. Probably the best DVD purchase I've ever made. I envy anyone that had the privilege of being in the studio audience for any of these! "Who wrote Swanee River?" "Ed Norton?" lol! Truly the golden age of television! When you can watch these, knowing full well what's coming from already having seen them many times, and STILL find it funny, that's awesome!

  • In the '60s my dad created a TV mute button of his own design, hard-wired from a TV to a tabletop microphone base. This allowed my great-great-uncle (who lived to be 101) to stay in his chair and mute the commercials!

  • This old Zenith TV from 1957 can also be playing your favorite video games on either consoles which is the Atari 2600, the NES, the SNES and the Sega Genesis.

  • in 77 i played atari 2600 and pong on a simular tv set. you young whippersnappers will be envious of the holographic tvs your grandchildren will have as well.''

  • Great episode!... I brive a dus... hehe!

  • Did TV's like this work this good in 1957?

  • no generaly the tv reception was kinda bad depending on how close to the signal you were. this person had this set either hooked to a dvd player or cable. you can buy an adapter at any radio shack.

  • To answer your question, they did work this well, you just had to have good TV reception/ a good antenna.

  • This is a really nice tv set.I have always wanted a set like this.Did thiey ahve a color set like this shown later on

  • Why would it have a microphone?

  • Because old remote controls used ultra sound.

  • This is my favorite mooners episode.

    Thanks!

  • This is cool! A classic TV with classic TV on it! Don't get better then this!

Keep this TV humming after Feb. 17th with a DTV Converter Box. A perfect digital picture on this old set would blow your mind!

  • that is one beautiful set

  • anything vintage and classic....i'm a fiend. Very good work, my man.

  • Wow! Nice old TV!!!! I really like the design with those little legs it sits on.

  • You,pal, are an absolute genius! An honorable "BOOMPH!" for your dedication and restoration of your Zenith and for taking us Gleason fans to the moon the right way. Bravo!

  • Thanks man, I appriciate it. Glad you enjoyed it.

  • NOW IS HDTV TODAY.

  • Sorry, it turns out i had Two tabs open on my Internet Browser that was causing 2 audio tracks to play at the Same Time.

  • Whats wrong with it? I assume you are referring to the audio of this video? Or is this a general opinion on the music selections I posted?

  • @drh4683 This is somewhat awkward. The comment is dated two years ago, I was still a little kid.

  • I am a abig fan when it comes to these old sets

  • I did not know that in 1957 there were remotes for the televisions.

  • hahaha 1957 not 18

  • Nice looking old TV, including an episode of "The Honeymooners" with Jackie Gleason. I have that episode on DVD, but it was also shown on WPIX-TV during "The Honeymooners Blowout", a marathon of all of the original 39 episodes shown every New Year's.

  • The picture really looks good and the camera really worked well in capturing it...no lines or bars or anything. Never have seen that kind of space command holder...it seems like usuauly there was a little thing you hung it on, on the back.

Is there not a channel tab you can set to turn the set "off"?

  • awesome, a classic on a classic tv! whats the size of the speaker? looks like it puts out alot of sound. i wonder how would it sound with a music video from the 70's up to todays?

  • Looks like about an 8" speaker...these older TV's in this tall cabinet style always seem to have better sound because there is more room for the speaker. Some of the 60's sets like Magnavoxes and Zeniths have 2 6X9 speakers and can sound pretty good.
