I love guitar duos! Especially the Assads. Group playing is always lacking in classical guitar and I would much rather play with another than be alone on stage. But that's just me and I'm gonna have to suck it up for my student recital in a few weeks. XD

Did you know.... that A. Piazzola composed this whole work ( the Tango Suite) dedicated to these guys???? That is why this guys, not only play as one, this piece for them goes a bit beyond that that.... it is more than blood, it is more than heart, it is more than Piazzola being there with them pouring his soul into their interpretation... IT IS JUST SIMPLY TANGO...

The little pause at 4:53 is sublime. These guys really convincingly capture an "improvised" feel to this. All the little ornaments and flourishes sound "off the cuff" despite being written. They take a lot of liberties but everything works beautifully. I wonder what Piazzolla thought of their performance. Did he ever hear them play this? Anyway, beautiful musicality and virtuosity!!!

Piazzolla in fact wrote the Tango Suite after hearing the Assad brothers in Paris 1983 playing an arrangement of another Piazzolla's work... and he was present in the first public performance of the Tango Suite, very happy and enthusiastic of Assad's version.

I had a video with Duo Assad's recording took out of You Tube because the copyright issues. It was not a video exactly, it was just the mp3 of a D. Scarlatti played by them ( very beautiful, as always )which I composed a video with some Goya's pictures.

The Company which has the copyright didn't like it, and I had to change the music of the video.

Of "Tango Suite"? You can get their "Plays Piazzolla" CD. A different version is also on their "Latin American Music for Two Guitars" CD.

I prefer the version on the "Latin American Music" disk...it's a slightly faster tempo and just seems a bit more cohesive.
