I'm not at all experienced with black belts. They never interested me......until now. I like their fighting style. The Jag is a pussy fish. However, they use pace. Therefore, they have more stamina, in some cases such as this. I strongly believe if you'd put them in a larger tank, the outcome wouldn't been the opposite. It appears that black belts fight like Convicts: circle and destroy.

On the average basis the Dovii is the most territorial, not aggressive no fish is actually aggressive unless guarding fry. It really depends on what size tank the fish are in, for example I live in an extremly small apartment we share the bathrooms togather and shower togather would that be fun? nope I would be very pissy.

If you put both fish in a large tank the buttikofrei will kill the jag. The butti needs large space to circle and torpedo into its target. You took that away once you put them both in that crap tank. Handicap. Put them in a big bagger tank and see the buttikofrei kill that fish in less than 10 min. and also bozo why are you putting a female butti agents a male jag. But, the jag fought hard. When my butti lived with my jag he was bigger for a couple of months so the jag was picked on constantly! After the jag grew an inch bigger the butti pussied out and got ripped up. No the jag is in a 130 gallon with a Trimac cichlid and a dovii. The dovii dominates my jag, the dovii and trimac ALWAYS fight!!!!
Buttiko had the home tank advantage and the tank size advantage and still lost damn. I would have never guessed that a full grown Buttikoferi would lose a fight to anyone.

Maybe I am wrong to assume. But the beginning of the fight seemed to tell a lot about which fish was the guest, and which was the resident King of the pond.

i got a 14" 35cm male jaguar yesterday and it just swallows any think 3 1/2 " under its mouth is 3 1/2 inch hight and langht 4" so when i want to see him smash something i put in a 5-6" pilchard

again if you want a good fighting fish you must train it in fast current so it is in shape. the jag on here looks too slow. I use to train my bettas for fighting back then..and fast current increases their speed and power so yeah. again jag are just beautiful fish not for fite purpse

yeah. jags need big space. i got my little jag in a 20 tank and my little jewel chiclid. one time they got into a fight and the jewel kicked the jag ass alot at the little corner. the jag however withstood and won. iono but i admire those fish that are brave. That butti, Beated the fuck out of that jag..Just like it did to the dovii(if they were the same size) I just watched an old video of a red devil vs buttikoferi cichlid on my page look at the bottom and you will see a video called fish fight..And the butti murdered the red devil..pound for pound the buttikoferi cichlid are one of the strongest fish out there...A devil that's the same size as the butti if they fight the devil would loose same with all other cichlids except the dovii.
Butti won. The whole fight the butti was fucking up the Jag. The last minute or so the Jag went on atack but all was mostly missing. The Butti was biting the jags face and twisting it and everything. Buttikoferi's are not to be under estimated by any means. One of my Butti's is in a tank by himself now cause he nearly killed my tiger oscar that was twice his size, and my male jack dempsey that was bigger than him too. Hell he even beat up on my jags. They are VERY powerful fish and when they fight they turn bright white in between their stripes.

I think the butti won!
But, the jag fought hard. When my butti lived with my jag he was bigger for a couple of months so the jag was picked on constantly! After the jag grew an inch bigger the butti pussied out and got ripped up. No the jag is in a 130 gallon with a Trimac cichlid and a dovii. The dovii dominates my jag, the dovii and trimac ALWAYS fight!!!!

@ACF You're right, I don't know if the Jag lived in that tank before. My comment was based on my knowlege of the species, their behavioral/territorial patterns (especially at that size); as I have had a few, bred a few, given babies to friends and watched them grow to full size.
Maybe I am wrong to assume. But the beginning of the fight seemed to tell a lot about which fish was the guest, and which was the resident King of the pond.

i got a 14" 35cm male jaguar yesterday and it just swallows any think 3 1/2 " under its mouth is 3 1/2 inch hight and langht 4" so when i want to see him smash something i put in a 5-6" pilchard

again if you want a good fighting fish you must train it in fast current so it is in shape. the jag on here looks too slow. I use to train my bettas for fighting back then..and fast current increases their speed and power so yeah. again jag are just beautiful fish not for fite purpse

yeah. jags need big space. i got my little jag in a 20 tank and my little jewel chiclid. one time they got into a fight and the jewel kicked the jag ass alot at the little corner. the jag however withstood and won. iono but i admire those fish that are brave. I try to find a dovi but i can't find any haha. I remember when I first got my jag it is only 1 inch..and it even flared at my Hap. Ahli which is 5 times bigger then the jag.

Wow, your a good lair! My Buttikoferi cichlid killed a jag that was an inch bigger..My jack dempsey nealry killed a pair of jaguar cichlids. They don't fight til all there scales are off? thats some bull. I've had more than 10 jag's and all of them will give up if a fish is overly aggressive,like my dempsey was a bit smaller than my jag so when I bought my jag I divided the tank for a week than let it loose geuss what, one bite from the dempsey the jag gave up! Jag's are aggressive to small fish

That butti, Beated the fuck out of that jag..Just like it did to the dovii(if they were the same size) I just watched an old video of a red devil vs buttikoferi cichlid on my page look at the bottom and you will see a video called fish fight..And the butti murdered the red devil..pound for pound the buttikoferi cichlid are one of the strongest fish out there...A devil that's the same size as the butti if they fight the devil would loose same with all other cichlids except the dovii.

Butti won. The whole fight the butti was fucking up the Jag. The last minute or so the Jag went on atack but all was mostly missing. The Butti was biting the jags face and twisting it and everything. You guys cant say the Butti lost. I prefer SA/CA cichlids, but you cant deny the Butti winning. Towards the end it looks like the Butti was tired and jsut avoiding the fight. What pisses me off is who was the fucker who put these 2 big fish in a small ass tank.

You need to open your eye's and start looking at all the comments. That is a female Buttikoferi, females are less aggressive and are not as aggressive as the males. That female still packs a punch, And if that was a male buttikoferi..that Jag has no chance. It doesn't matter about mouth size..it matters about the mouth pressure bite and its strength. I have a 1 inch Buttikoferi cichlid who lives with a Jaguar cichlid(the jag was 4 inches)..the jag got powned..and eventually died. Butti's RULE!

Buttikoferi's are not to be under estimated by any means. One of my Butti's is in a tank by himself now cause he nearly killed my tiger oscar that was twice his size, and my male jack dempsey that was bigger than him too. Hell he even beat up on my jags. They are VERY powerful fish and when they fight they turn bright white in between their stripes.
