  • I miss Toy. Yet Love All that the Band has done to enrich my life!

  • American style

  • This is FUCKING AWESOME.....love this beyond words

  • Saw them many times in and around the Atlanta Ga area live...I believe their best performance for me was in the FOX theatre...Awsome accoustics...Just pure country music....Last saw them in Orlando FL at the Harley Davidson store during Bikeweek 2004.....Still sounding good....Peace

  • @jgrannie13 never got to see them awsome band doug grey best southern vocalist by farr

  • @tubelarz012 This may sound corny but I used to drive a strecth of RT 8 in CT every day for band practice and there is a place that looks just like the album cover in the distance so i always used to listen this at that point....

  • listen to the vocals and lyrics. Pure south

  • I sat on stage at the Uptown Theatre in Chicago in the 70's after one of their shows to the sound of a very large bottle of Crown Royal. This was the original band before the death of Tommy Caldwell. A fabulous and gracious bunch of guys. Overwhelming talent. There will never be another like them. A jazz drummer and flute player rockin to country rock. Great band. Highly underrated.

  • From Spartenburg, South Carolina...

Saw them warm up for Joe Walsh on the last night of a tour...

Only Joe came out first so he could get back home.

MT played for as long as they wanted and, it should be remembered that, they flew pretty high.

  • Dude can ROCK a flute!

  • 11 dislikes? GTFO!!!!

  • I got to see them here in tucson AZ. s the warm up for the doobie bros. in their 50's and 60's and still jammin!

  • About 7 years ago, I had the chance to see them for free at Alhamra Il. homecoming, and, We were busy at the farm, I have never made a bigger mistake, it was only 3 or 4 miles away. Now its $450 apiece !!!

  • PS, When Toy Caldwell died, I and many were in mourning.

  • The Marshall Tucker Band helped me on the way thru my Life. Much Love to them!

  • The man had the fastest thumb I ever saw up close mid 70's in KC

  • @DCSADPRO The only gut playing that style is Derrick Trucks, now with ABB, check him out.

  • i was in a lounge in merrivile indiana at the holiday star theater, and i struck up a conversation with a guy with, a strong souhtern accent, much like my own, and i asked him where he was from , and he said spartinburg, and i said thats where my favorite band is from, and he asked whos your favorite band , and i said the marshall tucker band, and he said, im in a band too, and i asked what is the name of your band, he said the marshall tucker band, true story it was paul riddle.

  • I saw this band at the Capital Theater in Passaic years back they were by far the loudest group I ever heard at the time, we did have 10 th row center but, they were GREAT.......

  • love the girl at o.36, just plain home grown womanhood, not this crap you see women into today."sigh" good times they were indeed.

  • If you're in Dallas or in range of the Might 'Non, that's KNON FM 89.3, the dj from 4 to 6 p.m. on Fridays sometimes plays Marshall Tucker. He did today, so I had to come to You Tube for a refill.

  • Doesn't get much more righteous than this.

  • Niiiiiiiiiiice tunes... thanks for sharing!

I agree vlurton - awesome flute!

  • got to love the rock 'n roll flute....

  • whoever the lead vocals is has a very decent voice. He pulls it of on this live performance very well. this band had its moments.

  • @chev202 that's Doug Gray

  • wow...it looks like Spartanburg Mem. Aud.

I was at the "Homecoming" in June '77

  • Damn I miss Toy Caldwell. He was one of the greats and highly overlooked by some. R.I.P. Toy, Tommy, and George.

  • So great... so early! Do you have broadcast or location info?

  • Nine people think they're watching the Disney site.

  • still keepin the good ol days alive lets rake some front ends slam a beer and roast a sweet one hey flip that album......

  • I first discovered MTB when they came over to England for a brief visit in '76 & Capricorn issued a sampler LP for £1 called "Straight Southern Rock", which featured MTB, Grinderswitch & Bonnie Bramlett. Brilliant LP & it got me buying numerous LPs of theirs after that. "Take the Highway" remains my favourite of all their songs though. Shame that many of the band are no longer with us.....

  • What a phenomenal fucking band.

  • Paul Riddle is phenomenal, amazing drummer

  • @marcbrmb, you're so right about Paul Riddle. This half of the rhythm section of any band is often overlooked and underappreciated. He is an amazing drummer. Thanks for posting.

  • I'm fortunate enough to get to see them at Wildwood Springs Lodge and Resort in Steelville, MO this Friday night October 15th,2010! Thanks to Bob Bell! Can't wait can't ya see!

  • Altpensacola ,yes sir, works of art

  • I saw MTB back in 1977 with Charlie Daniels Band....ahhhh memories!

  • each and every song of theirs was just a beautiful classical masterpiece, every instrument just moving over and under each other, I would have loved to seen how one these songs evolved from beginning to performance, My favorite MT song is which ever one is playing at the moment.

  • I love Marshall Tucker I listened to them when I moved from Memphis, TN to Los Angeles,. I know live in Palm Beach,Fl. awesome band!

  • Love this nugget

  • I have always followed MT band and I always liked this song more than Can't You See. Just glad there's a live version out there.

  • They certainly deserve to be in the R&R Hall Of Fame. So does Grand Funk Railroad and Rush.

  • 78 phoenix civic aud 2nd concert ever , seen them 4 times after that , great band Doug just cant sing anymore not his fault

  • cool band....

  • gooood shiiiiiit!

  • there's no one like them anyway..so awesome

  • cool ass song...

  • Music doesn't get any better or more pure then this. MTB in their prime. F@#king Awesome! Doug why did you change the way you sing these songs??? Don't mess with perfection! Granted Toy, Tommy and George aren't around anymore, but you were the voice behind this. Sing it the way you recorded it. The way we know it and love it.

  • I happened to be driving past the old Palomino club in North Hollywood, CA one night and they were playing that night, I went in, had a damned good old time.

  • This freaks me out!! THIS footage is from the Performing Arts Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin because not only was I there, but it was my very first concert EVER and I can see my friends and I in the thing. I fell over when I saw this. Thanks for posting!!

  • does anyone know the chords for the solo section of this song?

  • God bless MTB. Saw them live in Asbury Park N.J. USA in 1975.

  • this band is great. I love the flute player too, he gives them like a medieval sound.

  • @austinabernethy456 I think it sounds like a southern jethro tull...lol. Love these guys tho!

  • I went to the hall of fame in cleveland last year, what a waste of time and money. It was stupid, most of music wasnt very good and they didnt have alot of the giid bands in it, just a bunch of fairy bands

  • @thethulk, dude are you crazy, the rock'n'roll hall of fame had plenty of great bands in it, maybe you need to learn to appreciate more music

  • Thank you for posting this.

    Amazing.

I miss these years scouring the papers for their next return.

    RIP Toy Tommy George...

  • RIP Toy, Tim, Tommy and George.

  • Is that the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium? It looks like it. I was at their

    "Homecoming" in '77

  • yes it is

  • Wow I just love this song and this band..

  • R.I.P. Tommy, Toy and George

  • The lead singer here sounds a lot like the lead singer for grand funk railroad.

  • @cobraman96 you mean the lead singer for grand funk sounds like doug gray

  • Yeah ,thats what i said.

  • i beleive his name is mark farner.gfr singer that is.

  • tropico 2009 i agree they still have'nt put (rush ) in yet!! k.c.

  • one summer 1977 to be exact my parents & my 2 bro,s drove to cali. for summer vac. i was 6 yrs old at the time! we saw the m.t.b. at our rest stop in arizonia!! just like the photo on the back of searchin for a rainbow album!! i was just a kid but will never foget that day!! k.c.

  • Many years ago I was lucky to be in the High Point sound studio with the MTB during a video shoot, very interesting.

  • What were they shooting? Do you recall?

  • I was looking over videos last night, and as I remember there was a corvette on the set. I still have the photos of my wife with Doug Gray. Wish I could remember the video. It was really cool watching them do the video. I hate old age & brain farts!

  • Screw the rock and roll hall of fame -- they let Madonna, Prince and MJ in. How about a country rock hall of fame? MTB, Skynyrd, Poco, Pure Prairie League, Eagles (associate members haha),Allman Brothers, Little Feat, etc.

  • RIGHT ON BROTHER!!!,dont forget Molly Hatchet and Black Foot

  • The Outlaws, 38 Special, Johnny Winter, Great Southern, Sailcat, Molly Hatchet, Blackfoot.

  • And in cleveland ohio? wtf?

  • @Tropico2009 anyone who knows rock would never refer to this music as "country" rock, that's appalling. Skynyrd's turning over in their graves. "Rock from the south" my man, get it straight.

  • @Tropico2009 Prince is rock and roll..he's an amazing musician with a lot of great rock riffs and amazing tone(as a guitarist)..the other two, i could care less about..

  • They are just so fantistik!

  • Still one of the all time great bands!

  • I think Doug Gray had the most incredible and powerful singing voice ever.

  • I think im in love with the girl at :36

  • i think i was in love with the girl at:30!

  • Yea,she has it going on,but the sweet little blonds smile at .36 got me,slight overbite and the glasses,ah a much more inocent era.

  • but... isnt she married to her brother 0:34

    ??? (sorry, couldn't resist.. )

I'm a huge MTB fan and I saw them twice in 74 and 76.

also, for the record, I'm in love with the girl at

    0:30

  • They are super!!

  • classic!!!!

  • What a voice!

  • Timeless...

  • great stuff!

  • All hail Toy and Tommy...the world isn't the same w/o them!!!!!!

  • how did the band get its name?

  • They are just so superb!! Asbury Park concert hall in 1974,,

  • 4:17 allows you to hear Paul Riddle absolutely blistering his drum kit .

  • Are you familiar with the Marshall Tucker Band?

  • such a great band its a shame nobody listents to them anymore

  • no one listens to marshall tucker no more your crazy i went to one of their shows a few months ago and it was packed out

  • i want the lets boogie shirt at :25 hehehehe.

  • most music is old blues songs....howling wolf etc.. no matter what music is life...yes american by birth southern by the grace of god. keep on rocking

  • @smoken70 PREACH!!

  • @smoken70 ...so RIGHT..."Southern by the grace of God"!!! Don't think the "north" has any "real" kind of music they can call their own...do they???

  • @1342williefong let's see, motown, bob segar, j geils, mitch ryder and the detroit wheels, shall i go on?????

  • That wierd eye thing at 1:04

  • Fantastic! Thanks for posting it!

  • What amazing early live version of "Take the highway". TMTB was a band with class, taste and inspiration. Sadly, there's no more bands like TMTB today.

  • north or south, rebel, yank,:(I think we can agree on this:MTB accepted, that Lynard Skynard rules and said it all,for both of us,amen?

  • wait ..stop all the south vs north crap..its all music if ya want to redo the civil war but dammit leave the music out of it... both north and south influence each others music...and NO allman brothers are not southrn rock if ya all remember they were originally call the allman brothers blues band...nuf said and with the exception of a big handful of song most of there big hits are covers of really old blues tunes..

  • Comment removed

  • Toy and Tommy were both thumb pickers.

Sure do miss these old boys. Never

forget Duane Allman. His lick on the

back of the Wilson Pickett Hit Hey Jude

opened up the door for southern music.

  • Comment removed

  • Oh , come on people ! There are yankee bands like Mountain, Ted Nugent , April Wine , and the Godz that sound southern. Then there is southern bands like ARS and Starbuck that sound nonsouthern , we're all one.

  • FYI..the civil war ended a long time ago. the winning side was the United States of America. Not the North or the South, the Blue or the Gray or the rednecks or the yankees. If you are American you what know good music is..and it's not dependent on which side of the Mason-Dixon Line you were born on.That being said,as a proud New Yorker,I'd venture to say that MTB and all the other great southern rock bands sold more records here than most if not every southern state.ROCK ON MTB!!!!

  • Whatever Yankee. Just because you like our music doesn't mean you like us. I mean you just called somebody inbred redneck racist. So go to hell.

  • "Ignorant inbred asshole" See asshole Yankee? You stereotype us. You can like our music and hate us at the same time. And YOU are an example of that. So shut the fuck up yankee.

  • Yer absolutely right Nor' Bro'......,Now go fuck yerself. Rebel Yell...,Roll Tide ...,Tha' South's Goin' Do It Again!!!!!!!!!!

  • Roll Tide Brotha haha

  • Hey. a hell of a lot of us "yankees" loved the MTB band as much as you original guys from the South! Screw the R&R Hall of Shame for ignoring them..

  • FUCK THE R&R HALL OF FAME for not adding the Marshall Tucker Band. I can't believe they add that douche bag Yankee drunkard asshole Kid Rock and they won't add the Marshall Tucker Band! These guys kick ass!

  • Douche bag indeed! MTB rules! They should have been inducted many years ago! This music will live on forever and Kid Rock will be forgotten!

  • Love me some Marshall Tucker, I remember buying that 1st album and just wearing it out! Toy is such an awesome guitarist, very unique tone from "that talented thumb".

  • I take to the highway often - and this tune will come into my head while driving - good stuff!

    Thanks for sharing, Wiggly!

  • How is this wonderful band NOT in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame!?

  • how the fuck is this band not in the R@R HOF but Run DMC is?????? i boycott the hall of fam. fuck that place. this band is so good

  • Kind of like Michael"frickin'"Jackson being in there and Grand Funk not being.Even though GF had more than 10 gold and 3 platinum.

It's the music HOF not the R@R hall of fame.Last time I remember Pink Floyd is not in there either.

  • Actually, it IS the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Yes, Marshall Tucker belongs in it, Grand Funk was good, but HOF? Like him or not, Michael Jackson was very talented and VERY popular world wide. Remember at one time he bought the Apple Records library that included ALL the Beatles hits. He outbid McCartney for it. MJ does belong in the HoF. Before he lost it completely, he had it all going on.

Pink Floyd should be in the HoF, no doubt.

  • Amen Brother, Marshall Tucker Band is R&R Hame of Fame all the way, or the committee is out of their damn minds. When it comes to Southern Rock MTB & ABB are the best.....BY A MILE !!!

  • Absolutely! They both should have been in twenty years ago!

  • Asbury Park or Macon, GA. Whats the difference? A great band and a great decade the 70`s. Miss them both..

  • This is MTB at Macon, Georgia's Grand Opera House, and believe it or not, Macon foke still dress this way. But at least we ain't New Yorkers!!!!!!

  • skent714

What the fuck does at least we ain't New Yorkers mean. Have u ever been to NY. I'm guessing not. U probably haven't been further than your front porch.

Fukin redneck asshole. Nice 2 know ya'll still dress like that down there.I don't think thats a compliment but ur 2 retarded to figure that out. I can tell ur still fukn ur 1st cousins down there it shows. Ignorant inbred asshole. By the way I'm from NY & love Southern Rock.

  • I saw them live in Asbury Park , New jersey;USA , 1975 together with the Nittty Gritty dirt band. They played their hearts out. No MTV. interntet or nothibg at that time. Just talent..

    y

  • 名曲だぁね☆

  • You got that shit right EOW58.... Well said my friend!!

    PEACE OUT !!!!

  • Why thank you. Gotta love that southern rock. And I bet any of the Allmans would be proud.

  • This band was not underated when they were popular during the 70's. They got a lot of air play and did some big tours. I saw them in Atlanta. I love the way his eyes flash at 1:06 ish. I was a big fan of Jethro Tull and MTB because of the use of the flute in their arrangements.

  • That guy has the fastest thumb I've ever seen. Very underated band.

  • Well all categories are stupid, look at the Meat Puppets, great band, and they hit every genre I can think of except Jazz. But to me "southern rock" = blues-influenced or country influenced rock, from the southern US. Who cares. You're right, the Allmans owe a lot to Blues, but they owe just as much to the Grateful dead, none of those bands mentioned are alike, but it's all good...don't forget blackfoot, their early stuff was great.

  • I love the way they superimposed Tommy and Toy playing together at 4:49. That is just about as cool as it gets.

  • I gotta agree with that "ignorant statement of the year". if you'd have told Duane or Gregg that they were southern 'rockers' back in 1971, you would have gotten your ass kicked by them AND their friends. I can't think of a single 'Rock' song they did while Duane was alive. Sorry, but they weren't a rock band and neither was MTB. SKynyrd, M. Hatchet, Outlaws....they were pioneers of Southern Rock. All great, but a whole different genre from ABB, MTB, CBD...etc. Duane and Berry are rolling over!

  • Face melting flute solo!

  • Ya'll call it whatever you wanna, but it damn shore ain't motown and it ain't hip hop. Skynyrd, MTB, The Allmans and all the others from the south wrote and sang from there heart and SOUL. Blue eyed soul. Keep on boys!.

  • At the time, we all called it southern rock. Period. People would have "looked at you funny" if you would have a silly argument like this over the genre. To southerners, this was our genre and we were very proud of it. Technically, a lot of what is called rock music isn't rock music. "Rock" covered a huge variety of arrangments and beats. You'd have had to been there, especially in the south.

  • I love this song!

  • I think originally Jerry had like no time to learn the flute before playing it the first time. A couple of hours or some such. Toy just told him, hey man I need you to learn this so we can play it. . Amazing stuff. MTB is waaaaay up in my top 5 all time bands. Maybe top 3. In high school, they were my #1 band. This song helped me get through Navy boot camp!

  • rythym guitarist is killer, theyre all good actually. Skynyrd on gimme back my bullets album: "we would like to acknowledge our kinship to the marshall tucker band..." cant beat that.

  • Who's the ostrich that said The Allman Bros. are not southern rock. I suppose he thinks Skynard and Outlaws are not southern rock, as well.

  • saw them at charlotte motor speedway, spring 06', in the middle of the biggest carshow of the year. it was my 6 month olds first concert. he loved it good as i did. still jammin.

  • Comment removed

  • I saw them savanah ga 1974 original lineup was a Black Sabbath Grand Funk ZZ top guy so I went to concert.Being from the south I did not like "southern rock" Allman brothers are not S. Rock .They are frm the south ZZ is from Texas etc; did NOT expect much. BUT honestly I saw the greatest playn total PROS Paul the drummer rippn & kickn ass Tommy thumbing that fender bass Toy thumbing , Eubanks mind blowin solos,George world class Doug puttin country lyrics to it all !!! it blew my mind

  • the allmans are not southern rock???

ignorant statement of the year, they were the pioneers of southern rock..

  • They dont consider themselves southern rockers and neither does skynyrd. That label was cooked up by the record company to make them relateable. I read that in an interview with gregg allman and gary rossington

  • Great concert! Shows the band displaying

their Jazz chops; Jerry Eubanks really did

add so much with his flute and sax. Paul

Riddle showing his chops too. Of course

Toy just rung the neck outta that old Les

Paul. His unique "thumb-picking" style is

    reminiscent of Wes Montgomery. Robbie

Krieger of The Doors played the same way as well. Looks weird, but man...what

A SOUND! These guys were special.

  • I remember when MTB headlined with Ozark Mtn Daredevils at Tulsa, 1974. No concert has ever inspired me as much since, and I've been to all of them. The guitar and arrangements, and choice of instruments, that Toy put together were brilliant. Long live Southern music!

  • For those wondering where this is, it is the Grand Opera House in Macon Georgia. MTB opened for the Allman Brothers Band at this very show. I live in Macon now, 35 years too late.

  • Amazing song, a classic!

  • love watching this video from time to time. 1:06 too with dougs "look".

    classic classic classic

  • i met toy and tommy july 1973 central park..ny...so friendly to us that we gave them a j ...rip boys

  • The South will rise again!!

  • This is why Southern Rock is so awesome. There is no modern band today that can get out there a play a 7 minute song and keep you hanging on every note. These bands (MTB, Skynyrd, AB, Outlaws, etc.) didn't want to make movies or sell their own clothing line. They just wanted to jam.
