@CurtJames93 Yeah, Linux has some problems with WIFI for some reason. I just use an ethernet cable, it's a desktop, anyway, so I'm not going to travel with it anywhere. @exo232 If it's wubi, then no D: only way to have two OS to one is having Ubuntu on a seperate partition and then using partition tools to expand it. The problem is that wubi is installed as a Windows program. And like any program that requires an OS, if you erase the OS, then you erase the program as well. If you want to try it without all the fuss, just use the live CD
does installing from the wubi.exe cause the ubuntu to run slower on your computer because it is not running of your hard drive but a virtual space? Or does it run as if it was partitioned on the hard drive? So basically does it make a difference running it from wubi rather than doing it from the live disk/ creating a partition for it?thanks reply asap=D
@35ur The only real difference between wubi and an actual install on the hard-drive is that wubi is a 'program' inside Windows, that can be installed and removed like any other program. Wubi is best recommended for new users (or those that want to have a crack, without having the disadvantages of a live CD). Personally wubi vs. partition, I feel the only difference is that wubi is easier to install and a full partition is obviously the best option if Ubuntu will be your only/main OS.
Anyway, when I launch wubi in xp sp3 (64bit) it just says try without installing and boot with disk in tray. However, I have mint4win (the mint variant of wubi) and that does have the option to install in windows yet it finishes rather abruptly and then there is no option to load it in the boot menu. Help :'(
help! i did exactly what it did in the video and when i booted up and chose ubuntu and it came up with not suported on my moniter. i installed on a partion that is 18.5gb. help asap
wubi looks like a good way to test a distro more indepth, but I don't mean like testing beta releases but to 'play' around on. I used Linux on a virtual machine since I'm on a loaned pc so I can't actually dual boot (windows for gaming linux for everytrhing else) but wubi looks like a good way to get that dual boot feeling without changing the HDD so that at the end of the day if they want their computer back, they can't get angry about the windows being gone. (subscribed to your channel)
You have to be an idiot to format your hardrive while installing Ubuntu. The is a place were you can format it when selecting disk sizes. And there is another where you can partition by using a slider. couldn't be more simple. Nice I want some rose coloured glasses. Anyways Wubi is amazing. But I completely switched to Ubuntu
I have an acer aspire 5532 laptop. When I open Wubi, it does not give me the option to install Ubuntu inside windows like the way you did it in the video. Instead the window where you set up the install comes up. I tried it, but when I restarted my computer, it went right to my windows system. Is it my computer model that is giving me trouble?
so i have a question. not a complete technical guru and i am currently running windows xp on my computer. it makes my computer run terribly slow. if i install ubuntu through windows creating the image like you say, should it in theory possibly speed up my computer running linux through windows. or will i still have the speed porblems because it is running through windows, as in i should reformat the hard drive with just ubuntu and not ubuntu through windows. hope that makes sense. PLEASE HELP!
@jkuebler89 sorry correction. i am running windows vista. my computer ran perfect on xp(the computer is a little old). But after reformating my hard drive found that i had misplaced my xp disc :( My only option was a copy of vista from a friend. Now my computer is running slower than before. VISTA is terrible.
Well, everythings fine 4 me :) But do u know can expand disc space for UBUNTU ? i gaved half of possible disk space... And I liked everything so far... And I want to give UBUNTU OS as much space as possible :) can u help me with that question? thx
I bet this guy made Wubi look at his top Linux he works for Linux or his a keen fan either way Wubi is very useful and easy to use. Saved me having to get a disk out. :-)

Hey, Does anyone know if Wubi Ubuntu will work on a Dell Insprion 531s with Windows 7 because I've heard Ubuntu doesn't work on Dell computers and Wubi doesn't work on Windows 7.
@Reelthanstreet44 i have a dell it works fine when it asks to install select driver install then it asks for driver cd just press enter then it says insert original cd just press enter again then when it goes to the desktop restart ur pc then select original install it works i got ubuntu 7.04 up right now on a dell optiplex gx280

I'm loving Ubuntu. I'm using it through Wubi right now and as a long time Windows User, I can't say I'm not impressed with how much faster and smoother it runs!
i used to use xandros and ubuntu linux, but i got windows 7 when it came out and now i use that but i wanted to dual boot ubuntu and 7 together and this video really helped! thanx!!!!
im trying to put unbuntu in with wubi, but after the in stall on my desktop and my netbook, and i get a promt after the installation that kinda like a dos screen. tab shows me commands and i can even reboot. i really ready to leave windows for unbuntu, anybody got a solution?
easy, go to control panel, then to system, then to the "advanced options" tab, or something like that, since my computer is in spanish, i'm translating, so look for synonims of the words i'm writing. inside advanced options, it should say start and recovery, or something, and a button which says configurate. click on it.inside that, look for a butto which says edit, and erase the text line of Ubuntu. good luck.
hey i got a problem. I installed ubuntu before using wubi and it worked fine. but I have a different computer now and also a different harddrive (the other one doesn't work anymore) so I wanted to install it again but then the folowong happened: the installation went normal and when i rebooted i chose ubuntu. when it installed it reboted again. then i selected ubuntu again but i got some sort of thing where you have to type all the stuff. I typed help but couldn't find any help. neither did tab.
"My HDD was formatted cause of trying to install Linux" is just a stupid excuse nowadays. Of course, if someone does not trust Wubi or similar software, there's also coLinux or virtualization technologies No new partitions. Just a disk image and voilá!
i used this becasue when i got the blue screen of death this saved me since i could backup everything using linux since i could acess windows hardrive. now i got the blue screen on my new computer and luckily it let me go to windows for about 2 min before blue screen popped up so this time after backing up everything with that I decided to install linux in case next time im not so lucky.
i dowloaded ubuntu used a burning app to place the iso on a disk i did it twice an when i put it in it says something about not fiinding disks so i downladed wubi and tried that installed ok and then rebooted it just started in windows
so when you install via windows.....and boot into ubuntu....windows OS isnt actually running? im just trying to wrap my head around this.... I understand that t5he HDD isnt messed with but how can an OS be installed ontop of an OS without needing both of them running at the sme time?

Uh...isn't that what Wubi does is give you the "DOS" screen of choosing which OS to boot?

draconas109 2 years ago
easy, go to control panel, then to system, then to the "advanced options" tab, or something like that, since my computer is in spanish, i'm translating, so look for synonims of the words i'm writing. inside advanced options, it should say start and recovery, or something, and a button which says configurate. click on it.inside that, look for a butto which says edit, and erase the text line of Ubuntu. good luck.

hey i got a problem.

The New Linux crashes grub if you use your Linux update Manager, here is the fix
If you use Wubi on the first update only you will need to do this
Quote:
1) use the system update app to apply the latest kernel updates but DO NOT REBOOT as suggested by the system
Go to the Terminal (Applications/Accessories/Terminal)
2) sudo update-grub2
3) sudo apt-get install grub2
4) now reboot into the new default kernel (2.6.31-16)
This will keep it from crashing...

"My HDD was formatted cause of trying to install Linux" is just a stupid excuse nowadays. Of course, if someone does not trust Wubi or similar software, there's also coLinux or virtualization technologies No new partitions. Just a disk image and voilá!
