  • Fender sells the Billy Corgan Stratocaster. Bad ass guitar.

  • I'm thankful I got to see them twice during that tour. Before things got weird. Wish I could go back and do it again!

  • Love it.

  • right now that death rock boy is working in a cubicle

  • Last time i saw this video, everyone was in awe about this version, billy's vocals and the scream @ 2:45. Can't understand why there's so many negative comments. Even one is too many...

  • My favourite Smashing song, such energy!

  • one of the best Pumpkins songs...how I'd want to live this show..

  • Great band - shame billy is such an awful live singer

  • shitty......SP was always an album band

  • now this is real screaming, not that bullshit emos do on their albums

  • The guitars solos on this song were my favourite for years, the two albums were just perfection, soundtrack to my youth! Amongst a million others of course but this song has a special place in my heart. Love it!

  • luv you billy,,

  • Mellon Collie is one of the best rock albums ever. I hate to say it, but the studio did a lot for Billy's voice. He could rarely sing that well on stage, granted at this time they were playing in front of huge crowds and arenas, and they are rocking so hard, he had no choice but to just scream.

  • amazing he didn't blow his voice. but to have the vocal range billy does you have to have pipes of steel anyway

  • They were so fucking cool.

  • true,he fucked it hard when he went gay with adore...

  • D'arcy is a goddess.

  • talkin' about the energy...

  • i just love how billy sings live

  • fan så skit..

  • @Halochief165

Your comment suggests that this video is not from "back in the day"

  • @Halochief165 Terrible performance? Really? I love that it brings out the raw energy of the song. I never understood how people can miss that in this song

  • @Halochief165 This was "back in the day". It's from a '96 show during their Melon Collie tour.

  • @Halochief165 man you miss the point. This looks like a fcuking sick show!! You want it rough n raw n crazy live!!@!

  • 9 people are infinitely sad. Sorry, I couldn't resist.

  • Question for "peniosasdasd": What the hell is "Emo" music? Full disclosure however, I ask this under the admission that I don't listen to contemporary music (circa 2002 on) 'cause it blows moose nads, but the Pumpkins are definately not whatever the hell "Emo" is considered.

  • @taurusjb "Emo" means "aunt" in Korean.

  • fuck yeah!

  • wow billy just cannot scream like that anymore...that last chorus? jesus. well at the very least he doesn't feel the need to. that harmony he does with james at the end is sick

  • @starladear19 I saw them last thursday in Buenos Aires, and he screamed like that in BWBW and United States, was a great concert

  • pumpkins where greatest rock band ever...mixed beautiful lyrics with hard and soft rock and all was meaningful and artistic...takes me to a great place in my mind every time i listen to a pumpkins album....billys 90s stuff will be number one in my book forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • D'arcy can go her own way but James is definitely missed.

  • Rock yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • such a great song. you should Here is No Why live 1996 at Brixton, cause those are the details and it would be easier to search for it. thanks for uploading :)

  • My favorite band of all time. I really wish they would come back with the original band. I love Billy and Jimmy, but I want James and D'arcy too. It's not the same without them. Look at 2:34 and tell me Billy isn't a God of Guitar! WOW!!!

  • I wonder what would've happened if Melvoin didn't die, Jimmy didn't left and the MCIS tour reached the Madison Square Garden as it was planned.

Any doubts that it would have been one of the gratest rock concerts ever? I mean, they reached that status later, but really, they were ready at the time. It was a great loss of time all that drug sh*t.

  • Why is he so raspy and weird live but so amazingly good on the albums?

Does he smoke hash backstage or does he just not give a fuck about performing live.

The pumpkins are AOR. They're the best at album oriented rock but I swear that's what they are.

  • This is so good, my loins quiver with ecstacy.

  • awesome ending

  • @AJCNard well thats because during the MCIS era concerts he practically puked his lungs in screaming, so his throat became soared at every concert, making him sing like a nasal/guttural Kurt Cobain-like voice... i like it anyway :D

  • @IamTheScorchedEarth I hate the constant rasp. I wish just sing it normally.

  • shivers down my fuckin spine!!

  • great song from one of the greatest rock albums of the last 20 years

  • barbie d'arcy

  • I love this song the best!!

    1番好き!!

  • I only realize this now, but BIlly's guitar solo style is a lot like Mick Ronson from David Bowie's 'Ziggy Stardust' era.

I believe he's cited Ronson as an influence, but I never noticed the similarity until now.

  • This whole song kinda reminds me of the ziggy stardust bowie.

  • i think this was their peak... when I think of SP I think of Gish thru Mellon Collie. I do like Adore, Machina and even Zeitgeist, but Mellon Collie will always be "the" album for me when it comes to the pumpkins.

  • Mellon Collie was good, but I always felt Siamese Dream was their best

  • @schism206, so true man...

  • @schism206

Collie had a few really great tracks, like this one. But every single track from Siamese Dream is amazing to me.

  • @peniosasdasd MCIS blew Siamese Dream out of the fucking water both artistically and commercially and only lame fags disagree.

  • @MIvarsson99

There were a few wonderful songs on it, but they started drifting farther into 'shoegazer emo' type stuff that I didn't like too much.

I always pictured them being a psychedelic alt rock band like on Gish!

  • @peniosasdasd I hate fans who think that SD was the only good album they ever made. There are TONS of fans who feel that way, especially on the internet, and they all disgust me...

But at least you do acknowledge that Gish was a great piece of work.

  • @MIvarsson99

Nah, Gish is #1 for me, then SD, then MCIS.

Adore wasn't their best album in my eyes, but to tell you the truth not a single one of their albums didn't have at least four or five great tracks.

And man, you know who disgusts me? The kids who see SP as an emo band and the only song they know of them is Bullet.

  • @peniosasdasd For me it's 1. MCIS 2. GISH 3. no preference. It depends on the mood I'm in....nice talkin shit with you.

    Keep rockin.

  • @peniosasdasd Nobody thinks Smashing Pumpkins are emo :P Emos haven't even heard of them since most emo lovers are in the 10-15 age group

  • @schism206

No doubt about it, althought Machina coulda been another Mellon Collie, if it wasn't for executive meddling

For the truth is Corgan WANTED to make it into another double album but they didn't let him, the second part of machina is alvaible online, I think

  • May the king of gloom,be forever doomed!...awesome lyrics.

  • when i think sp, this is the sound i think

    awesome performance fershur

  • that voice!

  • i think the topics he writes about are changing again. He flirted with politic/government stuff in his songs, but last new song i heard it's back to life :)

  • i didnt know that. i love that song.

  • people allways say james added alot. He had his great part, sure, but he only composed three album songs (not counting b-sides). Mayonaise, soma and take me down. First two he wrote with billy. Great songs. I saw Jeff soloing with billy and theguy can play guitar.

  • well he also made the song "the boy"

  • beautiful beautyful song

  • yeah but the chemistery isnt the same it was better with James, he completed Billy better

  • Exactly, I saw them at the Palms in Vegas last year. They were great. I've seen the Pumpkins throughout their career after Siamese Dream and have like like them since. I am going to miss Jimmy even more than James even though James was a good guitar player. I miss the old Pumpkins like alot of people because I grew up with their music, but things change and you have to just accept it. I do, however, wish Billy would write about topics he use to write about. He's still an awesome guitarist.

  • Billy wrote his best stuff when he was living a real existence. Nowadays, he lives in a bubble and doesn't experience much except from his lackeys. Their latest DVD was painful to watch

    RIP SP

  • There is some truth to that for sure. I think he went down that celebrity road which really sucks because when this album came out I would have thought that he would have been the last person to do that. When I think of real Billy Corgan I think of this album and Siamese Dream. Even Adore. I mean one of my favorite lines of all time, "If your giving in, then your giving up." It's kind of a shame that new Billy didn't listen to old Billy, but I still love him. I met him once in Minneapolis.

  • si cazzo!!! grandi smashing !!!!

  • James added a lot to the music, D'arcy wasn't a good bass player...

  • I don't think that is true at all. D'arcy was a great bass player and got better during this time. She can keep up live with them and I think that is why Mellon Collie was they're best record. Because much of it was recorded live.

  • AMOTE D'Arcy LOL

    COMEBACK PLEASE

  • D'Arcy UNICA!

  • this version is amazing

    great song

the stuff now is pretty good (bring the light is one of the best songs ever) but the lack some grace i think.

  • bring the light LOL you gotta be kidding seriously I hope, every song from mellon collie was better, gish had better songs as well a siamese dream and pisces iscariot

  • The opening riff of this song is one of the best rock riffs ever. It's too bad the Smashing Pumpkins fell from the public eye and Billy went off in a different musical direction. Mellon Collie was - to me - the pinnacle of what 90s rock was all about. A vast, pretentious double album of just pure, good tunes.

  • This is a really great live version of this song.

  • this was the best band ever, billy, jimmy, james and d'arcy...THE BEST EVER

  • Descendant of Corganism at Amazon

  • 1991-1997 the best musical era for ever!

  • Definitivamente, la mejor época musical...la última generación perdida, la generación X.

  • epic one of the best bands there is alive....if you enjoy modern music and even new music pay attention to the smashing pumpkins because they will always be the band that pleases the ears..................cheers

  • Awesome band. i have been following them almost from their beginning. However, too much bullshit has gone on in the past 8 years to take them seriously anymore. Jimmy leaving the band is the last nail imo. Now it is like GnR with only Axel Rose left.

  • you can't compare billy corgan to axel rose

  • I wasn't trying to compare Billy to Axel. I was comparing the two band's situations regarding their members. Both bands have lost all their original members except their front men.

  • I agree. It's really sad. I met billy and his personality was shocking. I think he's lost his heart. Some of the new songs are good, but I miss James guitar playing. And anyone that thinks James didn't add anything needs to get their ears checked. Watch some live clips of James lead playing, and watch some clips of Billy's. Then you will truly see what is missing from the new pumpkins albums.

  • Absolutely. The band's die hard fan boys will tell you that it doesn't matter who is in the band as long as Billy still is because he is the Pumpkins. I don't necessarily agree because James and Darcy added quite a bit to the sound and the spirit of the band. Losing Jimmy though is going to kill them. Sadly, i think they are done.

  • they ARE done.

  • ur moms done! >:D

    sp for ever doode!

  • It's different with SP though. James and D'arcy never meant anything to studio recordings. Jimmy leaving is a heavy blow, but its happened before, and Adore was a great album despite. I think Billy has the ability to make lots more great material. I think Billy's largest problem now though is that he doesn't have any equals. Jeff, Ginger, and Lisa are kind of in the band, but they are all in awe at his bullshit like its part of some larger picture. They need to step up and question him sometimes

  • lol ^^

  • Smashing ça déchire trop le trou de balle

  • the days r counting for those 2 jimmy n jon melvoin..fortunately jimmy survived the ordeal

  • who gives a shit just read his lyrics and figure out what it means to you otherwise it doesn't mean anything. its his personal lyrics so the only way for you to understand is to understand it yourself.. same thing with any poetry or book.

  • I don't see any evidence how this song is even linked to suicide?

  • well

you get suicidal tensions by listening to it

  • Since my last comment, I killed myself lol.

"If your giving up, then your giving down!" That makes me want to persevere!

  • holy shit, epic keyboard

  • When music was important...

  • sure it does,doesn` it...

  • I wonder what the song is about..perhaps corgan was referring to himself in his early goth (death rock boy..)days,and his struggle in music biz that started with the marked...`king of gloom`can be easily associated with billy

  • makes a hell of a lot more sense than it being about Cobain

  • song isnt bout cobain. sp songs r personal. billy is against suicidal ppl and emos, that view is reflected in this song.

  • yeah. your right

  • that's not right.

the whole song 'today' is about him being suicidal.

&i didn't know that "suicidal people" was a stereotype.

i think billy kind've see's some of himself in kurt but saying that he has more strength than him. "

if your giving in your giving up".

  • wrong!

  • that's what I was saying

  • Why would he have a problem with a musical genre?

  • Chamberlain on the drums....what a player

  • THE SOLO

  • Best band of the 90s? Anyone?

  • without a doubt

  • Pumpkins + Nirvana! (don't forget)

  • no...best band EVER!!!

  • lol

  • fuck pearl jam. SP and Nirvana for the win!

  • god, i LOVE the riffs on this one, top 5 pumpkins song for me.

  • my favorite pumpkins song. close second would be mouth of babes.

  • this shudve bin on the best of.

  • great song from an even better album

  • fuck yeah!

  • this song is so badass

  • mellon collie!!!!!!!!!

  • Christ almighty, whatever instrument pops in at 2:54 +, it sounds fucking epic. Would that be the late John Melvoin?

  • indeed it is.. indeed.

  • so good with the screaming

  • youre gay

  • Great song....

  • True legends.

  • they need to start playing this live again

  • still one of my favorite pumpkins songs to play on guitar.

  • I agree. Totally fun to play.

  • still waitin 43 an officiaaaaaal tab

  • Try figuring it out.

  • if someone could gfive me an officiql tab on this i would love you forever

  • what guitar is corgan playing?

  • One of his fender stratocaster

  • I don't think so... look at the body.. it seems different to me

  • Cause its a very old guitar, so the paint in the body is erased...this could be a relic effect, but im sure that this is a strat.

sorry for my english, im from Argentina...

  • Yeah Hes playing a Strat, its just the paint is all worn off.

  • yeah!

  • man this is such a great song long live SP love u guys

  • For corgan to attack gloomy people is ironic. I thought the song was about himself as what subject does anyone know best than themself? The lyrics here, like disarm, quiet and today, seem revelatory about the depths of some of his sadness or hints at something else about Corgan himself. BTW Quiet is awesome.

The song could also be about how he has escaped from the depths and here he is now happy and free.

  • Fuck no ur not getting old, this shit is the best! LONG LIVE THE 90'S

  • i have that clip on a video tape...it was on mtv in 1996 or early 1997. they played many more songs...some of them you can find here too.

I still cant imagine that 12 years passed by since then...im getting old :-(

  • I know what you're saying... those were good times. I hate to say this, but after Adore, Billy seemed to be something fake; not who he really is - I liked the original band, I miss James and Darcy...

  • yeh wouldnt it b awesome before the band dries out the full band does a tour of some sort hehe that we be fuckng awesome this my 3rd favourite sp lol soma is my first

  • do they still play this live? How old is this video?Ive seen them twice and i havent heard it.

  • they have not been playing this song live in the zeitgeist tour anyway

  • the screaming at 2:48 sounds so cool... i wish i was there

  • sono io

  • Awesome performance 100%... i think BC's vocals are perfect and that he can sing. Singing should shape a song to portray a message and not hit notes for the sake of it (like in alot of pop n rnb songs. In this case he sung with emotion (yelling to stress the message which can be quite harder than normal singing at times) and he did a good job of it as well!

  • I would sacrifice myself and my children (if I had any) for this band!

  • I love the RAAAW vocals and superb solo

  • if you're giving in, then you're giving up.....

  • Great song, sounds great everything in it but the Corgan's vocals.

    SP rules!!

  • i think he needs more pics on his mic stand lol

  • One of the pumpkins most underrated songs. And there are many to choose from...

  • There's cinism on one side and depressed idiots on the other, thank god wise people don't have to choose a side.Corgan is genuine.

  • i gotta agree man, this song had the potential of a single. Mellon Collie probably would've had six or seven singles if Jimmy hadn't been nixed. Muzzle and Here is No Why should've been released as well.

  • i agree 100% with you...both songs are excellent.

  • Jon Melvoin is the keyboardist in this video. We all know what happened to him.
