I guess Captain Slow isn't slow anymore. If Jackie Stewart could teach May to drive fast, he has gotta be one of the best drivers/teachers in the world. And the fact that he chose a TVR to learn on is just incredible.
The Exit of the Corner is far more important than Entry of the Corner, which requires smoothens and the keys to it is Never press the gas paddle until know u don't have to take it off ---- thumbs up for these words ....

Found it! The song that starts at 4:51 is called "Why Can't We Live Together" by Timmy Thomas. Hahaha now I get the cheeky humour. The intention was humour, not music.
Song? Wake up & get your heads together! if you have any interest in Motor Racing or driving, this is Sir Jackie Stewart, one of the greatest of all time: Just listen to the 3 time World Champion and e v e r y word he says because he's BANG ON! You can learn more from this than from anybody else out there! James May should no longer be Captain Slow -thanks be to Jackie Stewart who took talked him through and cut 20 seconds of his lap time! May could comfortably beat Clarkson & Hammond now.
He maybe improving but what about the fuel level? Like F1, the drivers go quicker as the fuel level drops, or does it not make any difference in a Tuscan in terms of Fuel?
Jackie Stewart's view on throttle technique kind of contradicts other f1 drivers' throttle technique such as Ayrton Senna's where he would go on and off the throttle like 6 times during a corner, isnt it?
Yes, because cars at Jackie's day were ground effect cars, they drive completly differently compared to cars after 1990, since newer were are more of downforce cars than ground effect cars that slide more in turns, also engines at Jackie's day were slower lower revving than after 1990 that revved right up to max nearly 20000 rpm with full throttle in just fractions of seconds. Also in GT cars Jackie's way of using throttle works better than Ayrton Senna's way of using throttle.
@zuss10r Actually its not wrong, all formula 1 cars at that age got most grip from tires and from ground effect, even tought the cars werent build that in mind, they still had alot of ground effect but most grip came from tires.
So they are somewhere in betwean ground effect and mechanical grip cars, call them semi-ground effect cars.
it's all about getting the car in to the apex, and just as you are at the apex, you slowly apply more and more throttle as your steering input becomes less and less. That way, you don't ever "shock" the car with a sharp input. The tires on the car will actually allow you to access more of their grip by progressively reaching the limit vs. using a sharp steering input. They, just like the throttle example, will overwhelm the tire without really reaching their limit. I hope this all makes sense.
The gas input thing has been misunderstood here. What Jackie was trying to say is that once you start applying the throttle, make sure you have reached a point where you will not have to back off of it again. He is not saying to wait until you can gun it, because if you "gunned it" out of a turn with a high powered rear wheel drive car, you'll spin the car. He's saying that it is a progressive application of the throttle. When driving my '81 911, (I used to race pro with an Audi a4touring car i

He made a record run on the track that day! (a few years ago) Well Into his 60's & still able to blast around a track! Amazing or what?
I would be surprised if after these Xpert lessons from the Master in a head 2 head James doesn't beat Jezza & Hammond if he put his mind to it! JS was coaching young drivers for F1 then
@kdaly78 Jackie Stewart is the man who saved Formula 1 from being cancelled from being too dangerous. It's better for it to be boring than it to be cancelled in the 80's so STFU! Go suck off your dad you dick
Impressive reduction in time, but Stewart is still about eight seconds quicker, and despite his credentials not as quick as someone who races regularly.
Just shows the difference between the keen amateur and the best professional drivers.
Jackie Stewart, Ayrton Senna, Michael Schumacher, and Mika Hakkinen, so far the great drivers to ever exist. A lesson from Jackie though, that's a league of it's own.
Absolutely"! But I can't understand why you shouldn't go on and off the throttle. This a way to control the car. My God, the great Ayrton Senna used to do that almost always, his throttle movement was so quick and impressive (for hearing and watching) and it made him maybe the fastest of all time, so I can't see the point, except only if Jackie meant it going COMPLETELY off... Than 100 % agree.
@hansinka: You don't want to keep getting on and off the gas because when you do that, the weight of the car shifts back and forth, changing the amount of grip you have in front and in back. When trying to drive close to the limit in a corner, that causes the tires to slip sideways when there isn't enough grip. Once they start slipping, you have to slow down to allow the tires to grip again. You end up going slower than if you just let the car "roll" through the corner without sliding.
@almostfm They just think they can go faster, then realize they can't. Then they try again half a second later, and find out they can't. It's best not to use trial and error like that. You should know when to gun it. Its faster that way because you don't have to keep slowing down.
Jackie is such a great driver and has the rare ability to impart his knowledge to others. Take a look on here at some of the totally useless ego-driven amateur efforts (mostly american, hmmmm...) to tell us how to drive and it puts it into perspective.

Current F1 cars carry more than 100kg of fuel in a car that weights 640kg including driver.
The Tuscan has a maximum fuel capacity of around 40kg and weights 1100kg excluding driver.
