  • Can I tie this fly with a white hackle

  • @Eddie35519 i don't see why not, however it may not imitate a blue wing olive.

  • great fly, good instruction like the alternative hackles will have to try and tye a few would this fly work on still water i've, only just started fly fishing so i'm still a novice and would appreciate any advice you could give me, i live in the UK i presume this fly would work just as well here. Regards Alan

  • super fly...... thanks for sharing ,, I will try using that one next season.. will tie a bunch this winter.. I fish a little stream here in the south of france and that fly you just tied may be the one those fish are after..... all the other up right winged flies won't realy work..

    thanks again.........

  • nice tie... i never thought about the difference the uniformity of a saddle hackle vs. a cape or neck hackle. i like your idea of using a black hackle... i bought a #20 bwo with a white wing and black hackle and caught a ton of trout from the streams of Pa. to the rivers of Wy. and always go back to that fly because it catches fish. i'm gonna go tie up a bunch with a black hackle. thanks for the pointers!!!

  • Dear Humbldsrvny,

Thanks for commenting, i would try using some mylar sheeting material for the wings of your BWO, they add some flash, and if the fish are keying in on the white wing than the flashy mylar would probably also be a effective fly.

    Thanks,

    Mike
