I grew up in the LaGuardia projects at Clinton/Madison in the late 60s-79 and I loved the dirtiness/gritiness of the city the way it was. The gentrification is ruining neighborhoods all over but more importantly ruining the edgy character that defined the LES to begin with. If you dressed like congahead near where I lived in 1977 , I guarantee you wouldve been beaten up for the $100 sneaks and fruit stripe gum hat lol.
