  • this takes me back....

  • this was the second video made, Sarah Cracknell didn't sing this

  • There should be more Sarah Cracknell. That is all.

  • In fact who sings in this song is my girlfriend Moira Lambert! :)

  • This is a tune! I heard this when i was growing up and have only just been reunited with this song! Happy days!

  • Oh wow, I downloaded Madonna's music album and it had this song in it! It's kind of weird listening to it now knowing it's not her lol Great song though I love it =]

  • @rasputinftw me too, but i'm glad it reminded me of this song!!!

  • @rasputinftw

The original was made by Neil Young.

  • That voice and the dubby(?) sound made one classic tune.

  • superb tune he's on the phone a masterpiece

  • The older videoclip was much better...correct 90s

  • Sarah Cracknell you are one Foxy Minx!!

  • execelent

  • This isn't bad, but I must say, I prefer the Corrs' version.

  • i'll let you in on a secret -this is actually a Neil Young composition

  • Reminds me of my best friend Sarah(she's my wife now).

  • is that you marti ?

  • London has always been one of the worlds great Capital cities...Patrick Calgery,Canada.

  • ah sigh....cracknell,wiggs,stanley, the days the times, so very west london , so very early 90s, so very my time my place, so very long ago, 21 and in love, 22 and in love again, 23 and so on.... time machine anyone ?

  • terrible vocalist

  • This song rocks and i´ve heard lots of versions of that but this one still those years makes me want to dance,so respect artists work please...

  • I discovered this song how? Weird, back in 2000 I had Napster, I downloaded a leaked version of Madonna's "Music", and well, it didn't sound like Madonna, it was actually this song, but I liked it. I forgot the song existed, then I remembered some of the lyrics and found it on Yahoo in like 2004.

  • I can listen to it over and over again.love at first sight!

  • Thankyou Neil Young!!

  • what a spine tingling, hairs on your arms standing up quality fkin choon!!

  • Sue them,Neil, sue them!!

  • you love em or hate em

  • omg i love this song it sends shivers down my spine

  • someone smart please help me

    wanting new friends MG

  • As far as i can see, you're both a pair of douche-bags! You should get together or something - could be the start of something beatiful.

  • I'm a douche? You know you posted a video of Poison? Enough said?

  • Sarah Cracknell didn't sing on this, Moira Lambert sang vocals, wonder if she minded someone else miming to her vocals a la Blackbox/Milli Vanilli!

  • this douche totally missed the whole point of the song!!! what a douche you know nothing.

  • Actually as an absolute Neil Young obsessed nut I think this is a fucking brilliant version. I remember hearing this in 1990 and being blown away.

  • Its rare that the video does the song justice. Thanks for posting this. Takes me back to the cliffs of Uluwatu. You made my day!

  • A top song that should be played more on radio!!

  • Mem.or.ries.

    Crikey. Strong ones. Really strong.

  • I filmed the shower scene with Sarah- she loved it!!

  • sends shivers down my spine everytime...

    dreamy, hypnotic and dark.

  • shut your fockin face uncle focker

  • high contrast needs to remix this!!!

  • Underated

  • This is not Sarah singing her little heart out! where's Moira?

  • Stolen from Wiki:

At the time of recording, Sarah Cracknell was not fully part of group, and as a result she does not sing on "Only Love Can Break Your Heart", which is sung by Moira Lambert.

  • But she adorns the video like a goddess... so I'm happy.

  • One of the best covers ever made!

  • Where to find the Mint Juleps version ?

  • chupa el pico conchetumare

  • I love Sarah Cracknell

  • The Andrew Weatherall 'mix of 2 halves'of this is my favourite track all time.

I have this on vinyl from 1990. (heavenly records). Reminds me of my Uni days.

  • The greatest cover version of all time.

  • As a huge Neil Young fan I would say that this cover is pretty damn fine! It's a very different interpretation and has a cool groove.

  • I like very much the lyirics..

  • This song always reminds me of the exact same chords of Ace of base All that she wants and their other song Beautiful life

  • Great Song, Sarah get over it we were but young, we would never have lasted.

  • Kylie minouge stole this song. It's completly like her new song: In my arms.

  • Always thought Moira's voice shat all over Sarah weak vocals. I love the St. Etienne tunes but Sarah's offerings always kill the tracks dead.

  • I'm sorry, I won't have that! Moira has a great voice, but, to paraphrase a man who used to come in the pub I helped run, I would walk through 100 miles of broken glass just to lick flies off Sarah's shite!

  • It's got nothing to do with what you'll have or not have; it's my opinion, full stop.

  • Gotta agree, she's just too flimsy. She's useless live too.

  • Was Moira too ugly for the video? LOL.

  • Great song, reminds me of my all time fav group ace of base.

  • best st etienne tune....this singer is much better than the other...the sarah one...

  • Is this the whole song? I must have heard a longer version. I like this song. Here in the US I've only heard it on satellite radio and on the internet. A lot of worldwide gems go unrecognized here.

  • Clearite, the longer version you've heard is most likely the Andy Weatherall version (a classic) which you can get on the St. Etienne CD "Casino Classics", although the rest of the mixes are pretty dull in comparison, so maybe try a download instead of buying the whole album.

  • Great simple beat, the vocals are not the best but it flows with the song and it works!!!

  • Indeed, towards the end the vocals are getting a bit boring. But the first half is just awesome!!!

    One of my all-time-favourites.

  • LOL St.Etienne are English and they improved it IMO

  • Yep, that's as maybe, fantastic song and all that and Sarah's cool, but this is not Sarah singing it is Moira Lambert. You might want to add that name to your tags. All the best.

  • una de las mejores bandas de pop melodico

  • They are definitively one of the best pop bands of the Music History..and they are even better as human beings..this year I met them in Madrid and they were incredible persons..!

Lover 4ever Sarah, Bob and Pete!!

    From Madrid, Kiko

  • fuck me shes nice who is she. great tune

  • LOVELY!

  • I still wonder what Neil Young thought of this. :-)

  • one of my old time favorites. =)

  • I have this as the ringtone on my phone, hearing that piano coming from my pocket when someone rings so puts a smile on my face.

An absolute classic Balearic tune that still sounds fresh.

  • it'a my ringtone too!!!

  • this song plays at my work place ALL the time. i love it!

  • Stanley/Wiggs fu** all to do with Stock/aitken//waterman ..although they did do some stuff for Kylie ..nothing wrong with art/pop St Etienne/Daho was a match made in Euro heaven weekend-a-rome (hes on the phone) ..gay indie pop at its best ..glad USA did not get it they are too stupid and insular ..thank god there is no rent-a-rap version

  • I think that the stupid thing is the easy critic without reason..Long live to Saint Etienne, they are actually one of the best bands of the pop History, and as human beings they are even better..from Madrid, Spain..

  • My brother reckons that the first 30 seconds of this clip sound like they belong on the old "Streets Of Rage" sega game.

  • Maybe Streets of Rage II.

  • cola boy- 7 ways to love

    808 state- Lift

    nomad- devotion

    the orb- fluffy little clouds

    opus 3- it's a fine day

    CHECK EM OUT

  • this is great, i used to listen to the album it was from, foxbase alpha, all the time, happy days!

  • fresh!

  • Sarah~~~I LOVE YOU!!!

  • Not Sarah singing, it is Moira Lambert.

  • achingly beautiful - one of the last pop songs to sing about love rather than just lust.

  • They'll always be out there, just buried under a mountain of shit, is all. :D

  • Bob stanley my uncle :D

  • what year is this???

  • 1991. Andrew Weatherall mix is great too (plus the dub)

  • yeah thats the house mix isnt it? .....LOVE IT ! i had on my myspace for all of a mnth then they deleted it ..{cries}

  • Her name is Sarah Cracknell and she's definately a MILF

  • Why this wasn't a huge UK hit I do not know. At the time it was all Stock Aitkin waterman crap...At least this still sounds perfect now. Timeless classic.

  • I love Stock/Aitken/Waterman. But I also love this music. Do you know how many albums saint etienne have released?

  • Me gusta mucho este video, me gustaría saber que ciudad recorre

  • one of my old Uni faves

  • toulahiston epesa mesa stin epohi...

    659951408867

  • Great tune - well sung and perfect for it's era. Still sounds fresh.

    Crackerjack

  • The style i think is indie..it is beautiful song! The music and the whole song drives me crazy :))

  • I very like this song! Does anyone know similar songs with similar intonation? What style is it?

  • Id say its a fusion of indie and dance which was very experimental at that time.

  • neil youngs one was crap :)

  • well, that is obviously not true, and it makes no sense to say such a thing, what a pointless comment!

  • this is biddy bom bastic! (that's good by the way :))

  • Absolutely amazin this is one of my top tunes ever, from one of my top bands ever!

  • lol.....It only proves that musicians these days are clueless and talentless!!! hey Neil.....It aint about the money man!!

  • Billionairess. I'm happy 4 u. This is onea my faves too. Yes, it's Neil Young's. But it's different. It's mine.

  • you created this song?

  • hubble bubble ginyarrrg

  • TTTUUUUUUNNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEEE - back in the day man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • coolpatj and dermotoblong you are both kidding yourselves.Try and listen next time (closely)!!Don't be so naive.

  • Neil young's version is far superior. This version is not bad, interesting, but just a rehash of the original.

  • Neil young is a thousand times better than this band (who are good) , for the simple reason of it is this band covering his song, and not the other way around!

  • its a nice enough version. but dont take the piss. better than neil young? i dont think so!

  • I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS SONG FOR YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IT WAS ON ONE OF MY FAVOURITE MIXTAPES AND i STILL REMEMBER I LOST IT AT THE LIBRARY YEEEEAAARS AGO

AND THE RADIO STATION NEVER EVER SAID THEIR NAME SO I NEVER KNEW WHO THEY EVER WHERE OR THE TITLE OF THE SONG

JUST SPENT HOURS GOING THROUGH OLD SONGS TO JOG MY MEMORY

    THIS IS A CLASSIC

    CLASSIC

  • your not wrong darlin its a belter, from happy days gone by

  • the original neil young song is very boring ,this version is far better

  • definately, they made a very good dance song from an old song that was ineffectual. this band did very well and have had other good hits

  • It is a neil young folk song.

  • thats really bad

  • classic!!!

  • I remember this song and immediately went out to buy the album and the 12". Another one of the finest songs ever written and performed by true artists with talent. Not like this pre-fabricated american-idol-age crap American music is suffering. Thanks for the post. BRILLIANT...

  • some people make fun - im not afraid of 90s!!!

  • very good song

  • This is one of the flyest songs with the of THE flyest beats. EVER. Dang! I just found out today that it's a cover of a Neil Young song. Had to go back n' listen to his version. All I can say is THANK GOD FOR REMAKES!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I remember many happy nights to this in the clubs. Thanks for posting.

  • this song is 'The Jump-off'!

  • Neil Young probably didn't like that they did this.

  • Who cares about Neil Young? I certainly don't.

  • A lot of people do, considering he is a fabulous musician.

  • Fair enough

  • Indeed.

  • LOL me neither

  • Great version of it though.

  • Yeah I guess so. If you like this type of music. They certainly made into a dance song though, which I guess was there goal.

  • I really like the teenage feel of it. :)

  • this sentence is self referential

  • I love this song. I'm glad to now know who sings it. Thanks for posting it

  • this isnt the original singer of the song... but the original sux..

  • Uh, Neil Young, Sux ?

    Ignorant Dumbass

  • Bravo!!!

Only Love Can Break Your Heart is my most favorite song of the St.Etienne

  • If Mrs Lambert sang this song first, was she a band member at that time and did this change after this release so that Sarah was the new front singer??

  • it ain't sarah cracknell. she got into the group after this release.

  • I´m really sure it isn´t Sarah who sings this song!

  • It's actually Moira Lambert who sang this originally. But come on, just the sight of Sarah is good enough for me.

  • this song is still going strong, love it! :)

  • COOL AND DEADLY

  • great song, gorgeus sarah cracknell.anyone remember mint juleps version in 1986 ? not big hit but ood version, lost my copy !
