i've watched like four of these fucking expertvillage videos but i signed on after the first one cause i wanted to leave a comment on how stupid it was and four videos later i still havent left one because my mind has been drained by these retards who keep trying to explain things about amps. this guy is a fricken idiot. he calls himself a "professional guitar technician"? i was a more professional technician when i was in the fucking womb than this guy will ever be.
Uh set your treble somewhere between 1 and 10, the mid between 1 and 10 and the bass uh lets say somewhere between 1 and 10. There, now you know how to EQ your amp...
if expert village made an "How to Have Sex" video...
"i'm today's expert. i'm an awkward twerp who's never gotten any in my life. i'm gonna teach you to have sex. first, you need to know how to use condoms. now some people like condoms, and others don't. condoms are so you don't get your girl pregenant. now, i'm sure there's more to sex than just that, but i'm not gonna tell you. so, have fun, guys!"
UR EQ IS UR OPINION THERES NO RIGHT AND WRONG maybe i want too muffled or too bright? generally people turn down mids? not at all. maybe for metal and stuff but its just ridiculous how beginners watching these vids are getting miss informed.
3) if you like that really warm lead tone, try out those settings (every AMP's eq works differently so experiment a bit) -> keep your BASS low, between 2-3,5, boost your MIDS to about 7-8, set TREBLE to about 2-3 just like the bass. You won't get muddy and you won't get harsh, your leads will sing. Check this setting out. If the power chords are too muddy, boost the treble for rhythm and keep it low again when playing leads. hope that helps - BUT - check whats good for your ears, best advice
dude 1) EQ is everyone's own thing, that's where unique tone comes from, thats primo
2) secundo - guitar is a MID instrument, if you have a good tube amp you'll know one thing - if you scoop mids, it just sounds like crap, imo MIDS should be cranked up to about 80% in scale in order to get that warm tube sound. Your 60% treble would pierce your ears right through, NEVER boost your trebles higher than mids. Santana/Gary moore play with loads of mids and with really low treble (to get that warmth)
@bushibayushi Good idea but what if you have a solid state amp with tubes in it like my Roc Pro 1000. Its awesome for mids like you said and I absolutely hate treble but I need it to for clarity a bit. What's the best way to get a good tone.
Really broad question but you seem like you know what you're talking about. I've had this amp on the same setting and I like it but I want to know how to get the Fender jangle I got when I originally screwed with the settings but messed it up over time :(
i have a Laney HCM1208 and i actually have the levers with the hertz.. theres 100, 200, 400, 800, 1k6, and 3k2 hertz. i have no idea what to set these at since i only know about american made amps. if any of you know how please reply or message me. ps i am using a Gibson Les Paul and am trying for the "Beatles" kind of sound.
any musician would know that EQing ALONE is such a vast subjective process in the world of music and indeed, sound, that you can't just make a 1 minute and 52 seconds video and hope to cover it all.
Any musician with a normal brain would not have agreed to make a video about EQing that can't run AT LEAST 10 minutes.
So how about amps that eq's are pre distortion or in the middle of the gain stages? And how about eq in the loop or parallel loops with graphic eq's that don't work?

Horrible tip video! Sorry for saying, but put bass and take de mid off?" wtf?!
The bass really come frome the size of the amp, the bigger they are more bass you get, not from a knob, they´re really just to cut! Middle is your true sound, the guitar voice, turn it up, unless you wanna your sound like bees!
Treble depends on which guitar you want, or amp you have!
This is stupid as hell. It depends A: what you are playing music wise. B: what guitar you are playing. C: what volume your guitar is on. Plus, Mids are where the voice lives... why would you set it to 3... ever...
For anyone new to the guitar that might stumble across this video, please know that this video presents a lot of opinion as fact, and that there are neither "correct" nor "incorrect" EQ settings on any guitar amp.
my amp is set to 6 on treble, 8 on mid, and 7 on bass on a fender frontman 212 playing through a Gibson sg customized with Seymour Duncan Sh-8b in neck and Sh-13 in bridge (i know they are both bridge, i wanted that)
why the hell would he put the mids so low. my guitar is a peice of shit and it sounds better than this all the time. damn i think i could be a guitar technician for expert village. i mean all you need is a guitar in your hand some catterpillar eyebrows and a douchebag personality right
What?? well, if you want a blues sound, you might boost the mids!! if you want Metal, you might cut the mids?? this video is pointless!! there isn't a proper setting??!! its down to taste
it make me remember all the forums where people post questions about how to set their eq... 3 band eq with gain, volume control and you are lost? you are idiot or deaf? sorry its so sad they dont understand...
@Aethenthebored why would u run with low treb and high mid while playing metal? I know its down to personal preference but something like 10 bass 3-4 mid 8-9 treb sound much more metal imo.
and please some of you chill out this is a video for beginners obviously, its not saying you have to do anything, its just giving some very basic advice, that happens to be true. but anyway still what does that mean if you dont have those options, on neither your guitar nor you amp, are you just fucked?
what happens if you dont have a treble, bass or a middle, you only have a tone knob and a gain knob, along with volume, effects, delay/reverb, and the usual tone settings.doesnt that suck?
if you turn it up too high its gonna sound too bright, if you turn it up too high its gonna sound too bright, so right in the middle, right at 6,7, or 8
i think this: play the guitar on the E A, and select your bass, play on the D G and select the middle, play the B E and select the highs. i start it with all tone to 0.
I don't like his EQ settings. Really, it's a matter of taste. If you think the sound is shrill, turn down the treble and turn up the bass. If the sound is too bassy, then do the reverse. Then adjust the midrange how you like it. Personally, I like a slightly cut treble and slightly boosted bass for a warmer sound and a boost in the mids for a more lively crunch.
true your settings depend on a lot of things. just about everything affects the final sound. I was just saying how I like my settings in general circumstances.
Is that seriously a pro technician?! In that case where do I sign up? Everyone's EQ cant be set the same! Every time you move your amp to a different room you have to readjust your EQ settings to compliment the room better! Whenever you switch guitars too. Everyone has different taste in a desired tone, don't listen to this "expert", if you like your guitar to sound bassy go for it! ex .Cold War Kids guitarist has a really good bassy sound on his guitar!
dude none of these videos really have experts.. they have expierenced beginners.. just like the fuckers that made Emo and called it fucking music.. they know a little but not alot
umm dude.. hes using a tremolo pedal to make that effect.. its not out of tune.. Im sure even an "expert" like him wouldnt think that bad of a wave meant it was in tune.. so calm down
actually ...his guitar is out of tune....tremolo or not i can hear it. it's also tuned down like a whole step....pretty sure the guy wasnt talking about the volume swells genius.
this is bullshit! there is no RIGHT eq setting on any amp. its all relative to the guitarist. there are so many different sound that these 3 knobs can do its amazing. to say that you should put treble at x and bass at y is not only wrong but stupid. it all depends on what kind of sound you are after.
Hey guys...emm...Im a bass player, and I was wondering if anybody here knows about any videos like this for bass amps, I´ve been playing for a while now but for reasons out of my control now I only have a little-old-shitty amp for my bass, and I would like to get the best tone possible of it...thanks a lot!
you could buy a nice 100 pedal....or possibly a POG (but POGs are like 300 bucks) head over to electro harmonix's website..they got good stuff. But really dude ya gotta play with the setting, every amp is differnt
The treble numbers only vaguely corresponded to the number of highs in my sound. On one occasion, the treble was set at 8, but only 2 highs were present. Is it possible that other highs migrated over to the reverb channel and were consequently flung away?
Excellent. Well played, sir. I would suggest pulling said knob off, looking inside, and counting the number of highs that you find hanging out in there. If need be, ask them if they've seen the others around.
Do you know what contour is? If not it's well on my amp its how thick the sound is. So for like Rock with the strong chords and smooth leads and all that you would have it turned up, and turning it down will give you a thin sound which I heard is more for metal. But I play metal and I prefer it turned up but thats just me I guess.
I know what contour is, I've got it, I was just saying that he doesn't mention it. But turning it all the way up makes it heavier, turning it down is for thrash metal
I have read your comment and I understand you can't calculate. The numbers are from 1 to 10 which means that you need to put it to 7.5 to get 75% you dumb fuck.
okay retard some people don't have numbers on the dials of their amp fuck face. that's what I said to begin with, but you're stupid as fuck, so why would you understand that.
HE has numbers from 1 to 10 so who fucking cares if your shitty amp doesn't have numbers. If you don't understand that 6 on his amp means 60% on your amp then you should shoot yourself or something. Don't call me a retard if you can't fucking calculate
lmao I still can't believe you don't understand my first comment. so let me repeat myself. the guy is telling everyone to how to set the amp as if we all have the same amp. it has nothing to do with calculating. and for you to say a amp without numbers is shitty, you have a lot to learn about gear. numbers on a dial have no effect how good the amp is. i'm an ace in algebra so don't think your smart saying that 6 is 60%. i knew that from the start. I said they guy didn't consider every amp is dif
"da treble controls the highs, the middle controls the mids, the bass controls the lows" Oh man i'm so glad i watched this, with out an expert to explain this to me i'd have no idea what to do!!!
ummm....is there something wrong with using your ears? I mean really come on! Just tweak em to what sounds good and of course the minute you leave one room and go to another or use a different guitar or a million other variables everything changes.
what the fuck is this shit? how can you tell someone what eq settings you "should" use. every player has a different tone its called diversity you fuckin noob.
expert my ass, all amp manufacturers are different meaning the treble/mid/bass settings are going to be different on Marshall than they are on a Fender
this guy is such a fucking joke. he doesnt know shit about anything in any of his videos and all his videos are basically common sense except for the tube videos but he fucked them up saying all preamp tubes sound the same and that u cant swap power tubes without wire mods. im fucking 17 and i know more shit than his faggot why hasnt he been fired yet.

Mushroomhead18nc 2 years ago

this is bullshit! there is no RIGHT eq setting on any amp. its all relative to the guitarist. there are so many different sound that these 3 knobs can do its amazing. to say that you should put treble at x and bass at y is not only wrong but stupid. it all depends on what kind of sound you are after.
jxd549 3 years ago 5
Hey guys...emm...Im a bass player, and I was wondering if anybody here knows about any videos like this for bass amps, I´ve been playing for a while now but for reasons out of my control now I only have a little-old-shitty amp for my bass, and I would like to get the best tone possible of it...thanks a lot!
BTW...The video is great!
Computerdisplay 3 years ago
you could buy a nice 100 pedal....or possibly a POG (but POGs are like 300 bucks) head over to electro harmonix's website..they got good stuff. But really dude ya gotta play with the setting, every amp is differnt
bergaminivideos 3 years ago
The treble numbers only vaguely corresponded to the number of highs in my sound. On one occasion, the treble was set at 8, but only 2 highs were present. Is it possible that other highs migrated over to the reverb channel and were consequently flung away?
Vortimid 3 years ago
Excellent. Well played, sir. I would suggest pulling said knob off, looking inside, and counting the number of highs that you find hanging out in there. If need be, ask them if they've seen the others around.

What about contour like on marshalls?
McNugget94 3 years ago
Do you know what contour is? If not it's well on my amp its how thick the sound is. So for like Rock with the strong chords and smooth leads and all that you would have it turned up, and turning it down will give you a thin sound which I heard is more for metal. But I play metal and I prefer it turned up but thats just me I guess.
LozaM50 3 years ago
I know what contour is, I've got it, I was just saying that he doesn't mention it. But turning it all the way up makes it heavier, turning it down is for thrash metal

Thanks...

I didn't relize everyone has the same amp. The dude tell you to set the tone by the numbers on the dial instead of saying like 75% or something.
musicfuse 3 years ago
Dude, the numbers are from 1 to 10
uruahv 3 years ago
wtf "the numbers are from 1 to 10" read my fucking comment. I said not everyone has the same amp. and not everyones amp is from one to ten.
musicfuse 3 years ago
I have read your comment and I understand you can't calculate. The numbers are from 1 to 10 which means that you need to put it to 7.5 to get 75% you dumb fuck.
uruahv 3 years ago
okay retard some people don't have numbers on the dials of their amp fuck face. that's what I said to begin with, but you're stupid as fuck, so why would you understand that.
musicfuse 3 years ago
IDIOT
HE has numbers from 1 to 10 so who fucking cares if your shitty amp doesn't have numbers. If you don't understand that 6 on his amp means 60% on your amp then you should shoot yourself or something. Don't call me a retard if you can't fucking calculate
uruahv 3 years ago
lmao I still can't believe you don't understand my first comment. so let me repeat myself. the guy is telling everyone to how to set the amp as if we all have the same amp. it has nothing to do with calculating. and for you to say a amp without numbers is shitty, you have a lot to learn about gear. numbers on a dial have no effect how good the amp is. i'm an ace in algebra so don't think your smart saying that 6 is 60%. i knew that from the start. I said they guy didn't consider every amp is dif
musicfuse 3 years ago
I clearly get what that other guy doesn't in your first comment.

ummm....is there something wrong with using your ears? I mean really come on! Just tweak em to what sounds good and of course the minute you leave one room and go to another or use a different guitar or a million other variables everything changes.
