  • This is really lovely. Not inspired by the Roger Nicholson version by any chance?

  • @Blacksquareable Yes - absolutely inspired by Roger's version! (I also sing it with guitar in the same style). I love his "Nonesuch For Dulcimer" album with Bob Johnson on guitar. I was in correspondence with Roger a few months before his death - a sad loss (he'd been in poor health for many years) and it's a huge shame that he died so young. An inspiration to many of us. :-)

  • A cheerful tune : brings to mind a round called 'Whose pigs are these?'

  • luvvly, thank you :)

  • I know this tune as 'Good Old Colony Days' or 'The Jolly Rogues of Lynn', both likely borrowed from this tune.

    Great version!

  • @Pangael Yes - they're all related! :-)

  • Very pretty. Thanks. You get an amazing bass response from that dulcimer.

  • Beautiful!

  • I also know another version of this called 'King Arthur had Three Sons.' Ever heard it?

  • No - this is the only version I know... :-)

  • Very nice

  • Thanks for the music, Will. I also have a "Sewell Dulcimer" as Dave is a great friend and my musical mentor. Did you have the tab for this song? I was playing along and soon realized I was in D-A-D and plying a sort of harmony.

I enjoy all your lessons and music.

Thanks in advance - yes I am new to You Tube

  • Hi - good to hear from any friend of Dave's. No - I'm afraid I don't have tab, either guitar or dulcimer, for this! I'll post the chords in the "info" column sometime soon. :-)

  • ...and the little tailor he skips through hell with the broadcloth under his arm!!......

  • Indeed he does! :-)

  • Thanks. I got the idea from a recording by the English dulcimer player Roger Nicholson - about whom, now, I can't find any current info... :-)

  • Ah it's like I'm back in me ol' home again. I miss the ol' UK. one day I'll return to visit her again. This is bloody brilliant. Very nice work! I can't wait to hear more of your tunes done with that beauty of a dulcimer.

  • There's frost in Manchester, but the Peak District is whispering, visit me.

  • Nice one, lovely sound that Dulcimer has.

  • Oh Will, That is really cool. Good job. And you say its your first attempt on the instrument. Woooo where will you end ??? Because this was good. Big hug from your friend Viv

  • What a delightful presentation - thanks for posting this!

  • Thank you for your kind words - they encourage me to work a little harder! :-) Will

  • Very nice! Your dulcimer sounds great! And it has a awesome design! like those chords that are going in with the tune! Awesome.

  • Thanks - I checked out your site and tunes and feel very humble about playing the dulcimer after such a short introduction to it! The guy who made mine - Dave Sewell from Baltimore - is a wonderful guy and a great craftsman. When I saw his posts about making it, I wanted it immediately! :-) Will

  • Really loved that, what was the song called?

  • It's above the video! "In Good King Arthur's Day". :-) Will

  • Beautiful song, on a lovely instrument!!!

    Go well,

    -ds

  • Dave - your dulcimer is a joy to look at and to play! "-) Will

  • This is superb! Being English, it's nice to hear some English folk every now and then!

  • Glad you liked it! I've played this lovely song on guitar for nearly 40 years and thought it was a natural for the dulcimer. I got the instrument on Friday, 30th November - and recorded this clip on Sunday afternoon, 2nd December - so it was a huge learning curve! :-) Will
