  • @gleeblock Thanks very much! Appreciate that a lot!

  • If you don't mind, could you explain in boring detail, the equipement you're using? So far, I'm using a 99.00 camera from Best Buy and that's about it......I really know nothing about the electronics of this game so any input is greatly appreciated.

  • Another great, very well written song and very well done to boot. Most of my own writing pertains to memories of my youth.

Loved it ! Thanks for sharing.

  • Thank you again, and I'm glad you liked it. I think writing about childhood makes for some good songs.

  • Excellent original tune. Reminds me of the great tunes of John Prine and Steve Goodman. You're a great storyteller.

  • Thanks so much! I appreciate that, and Prine and Goodman have been big favorites of mine ever since the mid 70's.

  • another great one. is that a 000m martin? I used to have a 000m it was a great guitar. Great song john

  • Thanks Josh! Yea, I love that little guitar!

I went to a Martin sale at Scmitt Music center about five years ago, and as soon as I sat down with that one and played it, I knew it was the one. Check out my song "Since 1917" in my originals if ya wanna hear the story of my vintage Martin.

  • Another one of your very fine songs John. Well written, played and sang. --:)Rod *********

  • Thanks so much, Rod! I appreciate that very much!

brought back alot of memories for me,

  • One shall not mess with them ghosts... this works fine as a "duo"!

  • I'm a city boy and I only dream of the day that I live in the country!! This song is very appealing.

This song paints a great picture of country living.

    5*'s!!!

    love kellyxx

  • Thanks Kelly! I appreciate that and thanks for all those stars!

  • Great song, John! I heard something occasionally in your A chord that I thought was a gentle harmonica starting up but which never materialized.

So do you record your audio separately from your video?

  • Thanks so much, and to me it sounded like someone was singing, Ahhhhhh in the background. I've never been thrilled with the camera audio, so it may be something with it.

I record the audio onto my B/R recorder and then transfer it to the computer. Then I match it up with the camera audio on movie maker and then mute the camera audio. Sometimes the sound tends to shift one way or the other but mostly it works out okay.

  • Thanks for the tip, John! I've briefly experimented, with unworthy results, with extracting the audio from the video track, enhancing it with audio processing software (Nero) and then putting it back on top of the video.

I've always enjoyed your videos and have often wondered about your assembly and process.

  • Mostly it's just using movie maker even though it can be frustrating since it is not without its problems. Once I have the song, then it's just a matter of matching up the video audio with the recording. Sometimes I get the song and then lip-sync while I video and match that up. I just add pictures or parts of video into the story line and see what happens. It's a lot of fun. I was hired at a nearby community college to teach a class but not enough people signed up.

  • MovieMaker does indeed have its limitations but there are work-arounds for many of them. I'd have signed up for your class, given the opportunity.

I'm currently experimenting with Pinnacle Studio- it presents a dazzling array of creative options. I just have to figure out what to do with all the possibilities it allows.

    I'm presently in RTFM mode.

  • ah, brilliant. this is a good one, a bit wistful.

    but beautiful. great!

    -rebecca

  • Thanks Rebecca! I appreciate that a lot!

I've heard a few people say it was wistful so I'll have to look that word up.

    Glad ya liked it!

  • I can relate to the sore because I tried to many times with my guitar.

    Great place to escape John!

I live in the city now with my daughter and I feel bad for her she has to make play dates to see her friends. Very different from how I grew up just running out the door to see who was out playing.

Great Song John obviously it made me think,

  • Thanks so much, Johnny! Times certainly change and while I was working on this, I was thinking how lucky I was to have been able to acquire the memories from my grandpa's farm.

  • oh my gosh John..the chorus is exactly how i have felt so to a T for so long !!just drift away a hundred miles! once again u have created such a vivid memory& feeling! a beautiful yet sad feeling of wishin u could just go back to such a sweet ole childhood memory!or just a peaceful place! beautiful !!

  • and now i have to go back and try to listen for this higher harmony! was too focused on the lryics and writting u!

  • ok is that really u on an old porch for real or did u doctor a photo orrrrrrrrrrrrrr ?????? cuz i so love the final picture with this song!

  • Thanks Kathy, I figured you would enjoy this one because you live and work on a farm. You pay the real dues though with all the hard work. Yes, I doctored the photo. Since the house is gone now, I had to put me in there with photo magic software.

  • Ya man that was sweet!! 5*

  • Thanks Brian, glad you liked it and thanks for the stars!

  • A terrific song John! Loved the lyrics and you sang and played it wonderfully! I think the world would be a better place if every house had a big front porch (lol)! Well done, I enjoyed this song very much... FrAnK (★★★★★)

  • real nice John

  • Thanks so much, Richard, and I'm glad you liked it!

  • Your great with story telling songs- you grow up around corn fields?

  • Thanks! No, I grew up in Minnesota so there were a few farms around, but I mostly lived in the suburbs. Always loved the country though.

  • So vivid...I feel like it's my own memory, John. I do lots of porch-sitting in the dark. ;) THis is absolutely beautiful! One of your very best, and you have some amazing songs, so that's saying something! Love this one! ~NAncy

  • Thank you so very much for the kind words, Nancy! I always loved it at night when it was so quiet and peaceful. Now, I'm usually asleep but I enjoy a nice quiet morning also.
