I work for Honda for the past 10 years and believe me theres not honda engine in a lotus. The exige has been given a celica 4cyl engine which is similiar to the MR2 models and the other one that is a higher model than the exige has a camry v6 motor. It sucks toyota doesnt make sports cars anymore cause their motors have alot of potential like the supras from the past.

@rosario717 The toyota 2zz engine used in the exige was designed by yamaha, yamaha also designed the 1jz engine and the engine in the lexus LFA, yamaha know how to design a good engine. And this exige with the honda engine, wasted the car in my opinion as its not how LOTUS intended it to be, thats like buying a supra and fitting another engine in it, people would say, its not a real supra anymore is it.

All 2005+ Lotus Elise's & Exige's were fit with a Toyota Celica 'derived 2ZZ which is then RE-WORKED, tuned& fit with a stronger bottom-end by LOTUS, in order to handle revs past 8,000rpms. (If you revved a Celica GT-S past 8,000rpm all the time it would eventually detonate.) The Exige differs from the Elise by being fit with a supercharger from the factory& Elise's can be special ordered with it added by LOTUS

@DoctorJhoefling  I'm afraid my friend that you too have fallen into the trap of posting info which whilst may be correct for a factory spec vehicle bears absolutely no relation to this particular car.

To confirm, this Exige is very much modified and has a custom installation of a revised rear subframe carrying a Honda Civic Type R 2.0 V-TEC engine running a custom fit supercharger. The owner is a personal friend of mine so trust me I know what is fitted and have witnessed the performance.

my 2000 celica gts has 210,000k (of hard miles) and fuel cut at 8400 and i tach it out all the time, with no signs of detonation, (as a matter of fact the engine has never even been opened worked on or any problems)... what are you talking about... the only reason they would re-work the bottom end is to handle the boost. i also drive a mr2 which was designed by lotus and is basically an exige from the 90's

It's the same Toyota engine 2ZZ-GE in the 2000-2005 celicas, which yamaha was commissioned to engineer the cylinder head of the engine. honda had nothing to do with lotus lol.

@canuckaholic91 afraid not mate, if you look at the door it is a series 1 exige, it originally had a Rover K-series engine, but due to head gasket failure, a very common conversion is a Honda K20 engine which is also sometimes supercharged. your point about the toyota celica engine is correct but only in the Series 2 exige.

@Boss351Mustang Hello my friend, let me just set the record straight about this particular Exige. It belongs to a friend of mine and has a custom installation consisting of a revised rear subframe carrying a Honda Civic Type R 2.0 V-TEC unit running a custom fit supercharger.

Much time and effort has been spent in getting this Exige to this level and I can assure you the performance is as good as it looks on the screen.

I hope this info now puts an end to all the speculation about the engine!
