Probably the cellphone in you pocket is more hazardous to your health but most people don't realize how dangerous cellphones are. Cell towers, wireless hotspots are also sources of chronic exposure. Each one of these sources give exposure that exceeds the legal limits for a leaky microwave oven.

I've not tested a smart meter yet but my guess is that while it is not safe it is probably safer than a call made on 3G phone in the living room next door.

I have a microwave meter but where I live there are no smart meters, so I have not had the chance to test a smart meter.

However 3G phones are the most dangerous microwave device I've come across and while 2G phones broadcast away from the user, 3G phones focus their signal directly into the users head.
