It's just because after David invited Billy and Mary on the stage there was several minutes of commentary. For this video clip, the editor wanted to introduce who the musicians on the stage are, and then play the song.
@Rekatar- That's wrong- it is a mixure of Dutch, French and German developed by the settlers in South Africa. They really didn't settle in Capetown much. The British were more interested in Capetown when they tried to conquer it so they would have a trade route. The Afrikaaners have never been slaves.
it is a gospel song written in Afrikaans, hannes's first language. i don't remember the entire translation into english, but the song is about Jesus, my savior. glad you enjoyed it. billy and i really had an amazing time getting to know and making music with david and hannes.

Lyrics seem to be " Jesus my ieland, hy is alles vir my" = "Jesus is my island, he is everything for me"
stelarbreeze 3 years ago
that should be "jesus mijn HEILAND"; heiland means saviour.

It shows something different from Hannes. Afrikaans is similiar to Dutch, but still I couldn't follow the lyrics properly...
It has to do with the sound quality too though

Love how Mary Lucey keeps hold of the old gospel tradition while seeking a new world music twist!

wow thanks for that. is david kramer religous?
Rekatar 4 years ago
I'm not sure what David's religious preference is. Hannes, the African man singing, belongs to the church in his hometown in South Africa.
