  • theres someone selling one for $500. im looking for a project car and im really thinking about getting it. im only 16. is this a good project car?

  • Nice car. Had an 83 with the same color scheme. Bone stock, but still fun to drive, esp. for a fwd car. But lol @ the competition. wtf is that, an Aries K?

  • You can barely hear the squeek of cheap plastic over that 4 cyl turbo roar.

Honestly, I always like the look of the Shelby Charger. It was a much needed respite in what was altogether a horrific era for American performance cars.

  • lol when the 5.0 came back for the new mustang GTs in the mid 80s it still only made like 175 hp, the charger was like 150ish. Add the fact that the kid with the mustang probably couldnt drive to the equation and these things were pony killers

  • What did you do for a Limited Slip Diff? We run the same car on the Bonneville salt flats and have been having problems sourcing one at a reasonable cost. Thanks, Stewart.

  • @biirtboy I had one of those spring loaded traction devices. It was starting to wear out. You should go with a Quaife LSD if you are serious.

  • Very Nice car!

  • How much did the mods in your car cost? I have an '85 Shelby project and I would like to get it on the strip.

  • @dmn1447 The mods cost much more than I would like to admit. I probably have a little over $7000 in the turbo, engine, head, intercooler, standalone ecm, etc.

  • @GLHS592

Yeah but its still a cool classic.

  • where did you buy all your parts from you can catch me at my email its maxey42@yahoo.com

  • How fast are the '85 Shelby Charger's with the 2.2l turbo with no mods, just stock? Does anyone know what time they run in a quarter mile?

  • @dmn1447 Around 15.9 at 85 mph is what the car magazines were getting out of them new.

  • the charger is definatley one of my favorite turbo dodges

  • Is that bucar? :D

  • how dose it go around a corner

  • @CrazyDave650 @CrazyDave650 with the Koni coilovers, it does rather well. It's WAY more fun on the curvy back roads than at the drag strip.

  • Good to see someone trying something different at the track. Nice run.

  • Sweet car man always wanted one of those cars better then a import by far

  • Nice run Kevin.

    Vaughn

  • I used to have an '81 Dodge Charger 2.2. Black with gold striping. Wish I still had it...and all my friends used to laugh. Nice to see there are still some people who appreciate these early American performance 4 bangers still around. I also had an '86 Bright red Daytona Turbo Z and a Royal Blue '89 Daytona Shelby Z. Nice car GLHS592!

  • Dodge had the right idea in the 80's. They made high output 4 cylnders when others were still using V8's.

  • @okrabay High output is debateable. Back then when Ford built the 3.0 Vulcan V6, it made 140 horses and the rest of the companies had to fight to keep up. So, most of the companies resorted to making extremely light sports cars (starting with the Foxbody mustang) 200 horses in thoughs days was AALLLOOOTTT of power. the 5.0 in the stang only made 175 and still hauled butt!

  • What a nice and fast car!

  • I am running a 1989 2.2 common block with forged JE pistons. It has a ported "G" head, a hybrid t3/to4e 50 trim turbo, spearco front mount intercooler, Super 60 injectors, log header, ported 1 pc. intake, and 3" exhaust.

  • thats a sweet vid, i had an 86 years ago, miss that car

  • Im in the process of building an 86 up, what's your set up? I'm trying to achieve 12's in it without breaking the bank. It's a bone stock 2.2 with the base turbo at the moment

any tips or part suggestions would be great

  • @dillweedhiway1 look man, if u want to know i built an incredible fast 86 shelby charger. send me a message if ur still interested....

  • i had a 1980 024. i just love these bodies. so light. and with the 2.2t..easy ot make power if you know how to!

  • I had to delete Gallantman44's idiotic post. I wish people would refrain from profanity and stupidity. I put the video up for folks to enjoy. If you don't like it, move along to something else.

  • You had the non-turbo model, yeah that sucked. The 1985 had the turbo and was a great car, you could never keep up with one on a race track maybe in the quarter mile with a GT 5.0 V-8 that had about 215hp while the Shelby Charger had 150hp but was far lighter.

  • gallantman44, what makes you think an 84 mustang with 175hp and weighing 1,000lbs more vs. a shelby charger will stand a chance? Maybe you just don't know how to drive. Therefore anything that you post here is inane.

  • Nice Car I Have 84 Charger

  • I own a new Dodge Charger R/T and its faster than a stock 1985 Shelby Charger Turbo but not as fun! I beat that car and raced it against all Jap cars in the late 90's and never lost until I ran against a Lexus GS400 and it smoked me badly!!! LOVE THAT CHARGER!!!

  • I totaly agree! I had an 85 Shelby and it was the funnest car to drive, it handled like a dream and the brakes would never fade! I beat mine like it was stolen and brew three transmission racing Jap cars and Mustangs. This was late 90's and the only car that completely destroyed me was a 99 GS400 at that time I never seen a car move so fast.

  • good video!!, buddy of mine had a dodge shadow shelby!

turbo! lots of custom parts very fast!!

  • 12.538 @ 111.71 mph
