Always ask QUESTIONS! Send a NOTICE back asking about their notice. Questioning a notice discharges that notice. Make a list questions that you need answers to ("What does [this word], [this word], and [this word] mean?" etc.). Ask about anything!. Mention that this notice discharges their notice. Treat any subsequent notices the same.

If it goes past this, ask them to send you a signed BILL. Ask about your contract with them. Send back any REMITTANCE with "Accepted for Value: [sign]"

I'm very new to all this, and I haven't established a Claim of Right yet, but I think the key thing is to just write down whatever you claim, as clearly as possible, and send it to everyone that might give you trouble.

I can claim I have 2 heads if I want. It's up to them to rebut it. If they don't, then I know as far as they're concerned, they agree I have 2 heads.

This is just my impression. I'm sure there are "better" and "best" ways to present claims so they are perfectly clear.
