  • Any chance I can get a list of the chord changes here, or maybe a tab of those burning slide licks?

  • cool man

  • amazing playing, whats the pickup??

  • @tom27j - If you see my video description, you will see I mentioned the pickup used on my guitar. It's an old Dearmond Rhythm Chief Model 1000. You will find them on ebay from anywhere between about $200-450, depending on condition.

This is the pickup Elmore gets all his tone from. I wish I knew when these pickups were first available, because it may have only been from the mid-1950's, and then I wouldn't know what Elmore was using in the early 1950's (I have a few guesses though).

  • yürü be! aslansın

  • Dude, ive listened to all your vids - you're the boss; start a good band, get famous and come to australia.

  • @tbonehertz - Cheers !

Difficult getting a full band together of the right musicians - I'd also want to do the piano myself - but impossible !!

  • fantastic stuff start to finish...

  • Keep playin'! Post some more!

  • Dude, you rollin' like a mustang on a four day drive, brother!! NICE!!!

  • @Jaxun1 Wow ! That's a cool compliment ! Thanks !

  • This is great!!!! Especially the rhythm and slide together :)

  • @dgargett95 Many thanks for that ! It's not easy doing both without drums+bass+piano. I'd love to have a band set-up to do this but finding the right musicians is tough.

  • Nice job, my man!

  • You are awesome man!!!!

I love that pickup! Cant find one though :(

Do you know of any other pickups to get that gritty sound?

  • Hi there ! They come up on ebay - just search for Dearmond in the pickups section - or even just guitar section (also use Rhythm Chief as further search words). Pricey but worth it.

I tried loads of pickups - only this one breaks up AND has the sustain and tone like Elmore's guitar. It is the same pickup he used !

  • @snakehips81

    and what tuning is this?

  • Hi there !

Tuning is Open D. From bass 6th (wound string) down to treble 1st string (unwound) the strings are tuned :

    D, A, D, F#, B, D.

From standard E tuned guitar, tune the 6th string down two semi-tones to D, tune the 3rd string down one semi-tone to F#, and tune the 2nd and 1st strings down to B and D, respectively. Should sound like an E-shape bar-chord, when fretted on all strings, all at the same fret.

I hope that helps. I've a few tuition videos to check out too.

  • @snakehips81

thanks....great vids thanks for posting and please keep on posting!

  • Nice groove dude!

  • Thanks for that ! I see you are in the Cayman Islands - I have a Dentist pal that lives there - Scott McFarlane - he is Scottish, about 35yrs old. Say hello to him for me, if you ever meet him !! Cheers !

  • Many thanks ! This sort of stuff is more difficult to play right WITHOUT having a band to play it with - especially at the chord changes. Just need a great piano player, drums and bass or 2nd guitar.

  • I love the intensity you always put in your playing and singing it's sound real authentic and so good to my ears. Great tone with this great old lady !
