I just watched this online and the whole drug thing sucks. The problem isnt going anywhere. I lived in El Paso for 1.5 years and my family was told to just stay away from juarez. It was creepy to live 10 minutes away from an area with a jacked drug trafficking problem and seeing people die every day on the news. I guess alot higher ups turn a blind eye to the situation as well, which is why it just gets worse and worse. :-(

The people at any given time can give up freedoms for a cause they deem worthy through the means of their representatives. If the court rules the law unconstitutional and they really want it they can always amend the constitution to fit their cause

However, I am certainly not a Friedmanite on economics. I encourage incentives and competition but do not advocate privatizing all.

Drug wars fail in every single country they're put into action in. The Plan Colombia project is nothing but a bunch of a bullshit, and it sure as hell isn't working to weaken the terrorists FARC. Plus, it's screwing over farmers who have nothing else to grow and make money off of nowadays except coca. The whole world should do like the Dutch do with drugs. There is no excuse for prohibition of drug use or possession by harmless, law-abiding folks who just want a hit.

While there is no such thing as a safe drug, weed is obviously not as dangerous as other intoxicants, therefore, I do not have a problem with legalized weed. Legalizing cocaine, heroin, etc. would be disastrous.

You are incorrect that weed is not addictive. I was addicted to it for years. Any mind altering chemical can be addictive.

Btw, how many countries do you know of that have actually legalized drugs?? Even Holland's policy isn't legalization; it's swift decriminalization with some restrictions and fines for possession outside certain designated areas. Some countries actually can give you the death penalty just for possession! Lol! True, I should have said decriminalization, which is a form of limited legalization. Were drugs like cocaine or heroin to ever be legalized or decrimnalized here (will never happen) it would be more than a few deaths and it would not be just users. Addicts frequently cause the deaths of innocents.

cocaine, heroin, absinthe, ecstasy, LSD, Speed, practically every drug i can think of was legal at one time and it was a taint on society and resulted in many addictions and deaths. i don't see how legalizing and then taxing these deadly vices would solve anything, they were already legal at one time.

i say that because you cant stop people from doing drugs. its people own choice what they do with their body and if they wanna get addicted to coke then thats their problem. but you cant put a shitload of people in jail and punish them for making the concious decision to use a drug. oh and what addictions and deaths were caused by lsd?

treatment and rehabilitation over incarceration, though prison is not out of the question if an addict becomes a problem for the community. as for addictions and deaths from LSD, what are you kidding me? there are countless cases of people going insane on a bad trip and harming themselves or others. you can't be suggesting it is harmless drug, this isn't the 60s anymore, we've learned alot since then.
