made one of my own from a 7 dollar picture frame from superstore, only instead of dowels, I used a ton of hot glue. for a monitor i am using my ipod touch, which is great since the text never goes far from my cameras lens. Thanks for the tutorial! much nicer than the cd case one i was using.

@queenofcrows, I was never taught to, but you're right; OSHA recommends safety gloves when operating power tools.

While the picture frame glass is obviously fine, you would probably get a brighter reflection of the teleprompted words by using thinner glass.

@tvsinesperanto, Thinner glass would probably look less blurry, but to get a nice, bright reflection, you need mirrored glass, or add a reflective film to regular glass. Today I found better glass and made an update video. (See video responses.)

@indymogul Yes, mirrored glass would give you an excellent reflection but I think thinner glass would still be better than the thicker glass (though not as good as mirrored glass of course). The reason I believe that is that thinner glass would significantly reduce the diffusion of the reflection by reducing the spread of the internal reflections due to refractions between the outer & inner surfaces of the glass. As you correctly point out, it would also give you a sharper image.

Just checked out the update video. Yeah, the new glass looks way better. I'd say that the reason it does is that you are getting the bulk of the reflection from the front surface of the glass (as far as I could tell from the vid, it looks like it has some sort of coating on it) & only a tiny bit of light is getting reflected from the rear surface which is minimising the internal reflection & refraction.

It looks awesome by the way.

It deppeneds on either if the camera is at eye lvl. You eyes happen to wander down or to the side deppeneding where you have the teleprompter. To high, to low and side to side. You want it at the same eye lvl. as you camera.

GREAT project, and I want to do it. Suggestion to anyone using a teleprompter, to make eye movement less obvious: Make the typeface B I G G E R and scroll it faster. What betrays a teleprompter is the back-and-forth movement of the eyes. Bigger font size equals faster word recognition and less side-to-side movement. Try your 5 foot and 10 foot tests again with a larger font and you will get even better results.

Also your telepromter: cant tell at either distance if your eyes are moving

Hanging your LCD: i cant notice anything upclose but as you get farther away i could definately tell you were looking down, very obvious far away not so muhc close up.
