what is the difference between a limit that does not exist and a limit that equals infinity?
For example, a student once said: lim (1/ |x| ) = + infinity, as x -> 0 , some will say the limit DOES NOT EXIST. Which one is more acceptable?

I tell my students that the limit approaching infinity implies that it does not exis. By saying it goes to infinity, then you know more about it.

Make sure you use my website wowmath.org. Good luck this year.
thanks a lot.
just asking, if the limit is infinite, does it mean that the limit does not exist?

The limit does not exist, but we say it is approaching infinty as a description. Infinity is a better answer because it has more detail.
