  • what effects did you use for this? the really big backround sound? :)

  • @BaltimoreResolution

A bunch of delay, modulation and reverb. I used a volume pedal to swell in the notes. The background pad was a combination of those swells and using a cello bow.

  • Dude I love your stuff, truly inspiring!

  • @hubar1565

    Thanks!

  • you sir, have an amazing sound. and a rig that brings a tear to my eye. i salute you.

  • @MorsIchimonji

Thanks man! This rig is really old though. Check the latest rig video to see what I'm using now.

  • Beautiful!

  • oh i see you have the earny ball, do you know of any alternative ( i dont like the mechanical bit of it) and is it transparent?

  • @smartti1970

Hm, the BOSS? I don't know, I like the sweep of the VP JR, though I only use it as an expression pedal for the G-System now.

  • RAD!

  • @jw112mail

    :)

  • Spacey and breezy. Cool.

  • Appreciated!

  • how's that DSD-2??

  • Awesome, when modded. If not, then I wouldn't bother.

  • So...yeah, you just got me to subscribe with this awesome music lol.

I'm going to try opening it in 2 windows to see how it sounds!

  • Thanks! Glad you like it!

  • Sounds great opened in two windows just like you said, in fact i think it sounds much better like that! Good job man! God bless,

    brandon

  • Thank you!

Just ask. :)

Er zijn veel keuzes out there.

  • My pleasure joh! Glad to be of service!

  • Great sound. I'd love to play with a board like yours.

I'm thinking of picking up a Nova Repeater for ambient stuff like this, what do you think?

  • Thanks.

I had a Nova Delay, ended up selling it. But I've got a G-System now .. So, I'm a little unsure about t.c. electronic. ;) Haven't made me mind up about them yet.

You can do better in regards to sound quality. But you're probably interested in it because of its price.

  • Well, I'd like a nice sounding delay for a good price, and the repeater seems like one. I won't be going totally ambient currently, but I would love to at some stage, and might get a nice analog delay to compliment it. But you're right, a main reason that I'm interested in one is the price.

  • Well, in that case it's really nice. Please do consider the Line 6 Echo Park. Don't be scared away due to the Line 6 handle. It's a great delay and the tape and analog voicing on it is way better than on the repeat. Plus, it has internal tap tempo which makes it smaller.

Another question: where are you wanting to use it? In front of the amp or in the FX loop? Such a thing is really important to consider with such purchases.

  • Honestly I'm not really sure, but having a pedal able to be put in the effects loop seems handy as I think I'll be driving the pre-amp just a bit. I'm really quite new to delay units, and I'll be sure to check out the Echo Park, thanks for the recommendation :).

I think 'll go around to several shops and A/B some delays. The sound I'm going for, think of a shoegazing Sunny Day Real Estate, so I don't need a full on delay ambient delay... but still, I want a good delay that will last me a while.

  • Ran out of characters, going to say thanks for your help by the way. A lot of YouTubers just go "yeah it's good" or "sux", I'm glad there are some people here that are very helpful!

  • My pleasure, man. I think it's important to help people when they have a question!

    About the delays;

think about the application and just try them out. People can type words and words and tell you stuff about pedals but your own experience will tell you the most of it all.

    Good luck!

  • Too true, I think I'll know if a delay is the 'right one for me' by trying out as many as I can and then one will stick out to me as being the best. I pretty much A/Bed the Carbon Copy and the Repeater and although the CC sounded nicer, for the price the Repeater was a lot more useful and I could see it being with me for a long time. I'll try to do a similar thing with all the delay pedals I can find in my area, keeping an eye out for the ones you've suggested too.

    Thanks! :)

  • One more:

the Tech 21 Boost Tap D.L.A.

It's the new version. Really versatile. Not super cheap but one that you might like! It can do analog really well but digital too.

  • I'll see how far I can stretch my budget, got some stuff on eBay ending soon which will be paying for the pedal. I'll be sure to check that out if I can find it in local stores.

I'll let you know what I eventually buy in the next few weeks, the Repeater seems good at the moment but I'll try out as many as I can.

  • I've been listening to YouTube demos, the Tech 21 sounds incredible... $100AUD more, so do you know of a similar sounding pedal without the boost to bring down the price? The one without the tap tempo is $20 cheaper than the TC, but tap tempo is definately useful.

  • No, this pedal sounds like a real analog delay which a few digital pedals manage to do. The ones I'm talking about are even more expensive. The Tech 21 is the cheapest in its class.

The only one I can recommend for people with a smaller budget is the Line 6 Echo Park.

  • and love the lights and fuzzy lights. like you i love delays, is the nova delay fun? i have re-20 and hazarai stereo memory man, and nice delays on a tonelab. looking to change the re-20, bit of a one trick pony, maybe a dd-20 or maybe nd1, another looper would be nice so tending towards dd-20, need stereo, ms readout, can't afford eventide, any thoughts? thanks.

of all the boards i have seen on internet yours is the one i would most love to play with. i like your style. thanks for the music.

  • "of all the boards i have seen on internet yours is the one i would most love to play with."

That's quite the compliment! You'll especially like it even more in the future. I've gotten in a lot of new gear which is on my little live board for IZAH now but I'm rebuilding this board with new pedals etc. I'll be even better than you see here.

    About the Nova;

personally, I sold it. It didn't inspire me, it didn't touch me. This isn't uncommon with the Nova, I've heard it from more people.

  • It all depends on what you want in a delay and what you're willingly to shell out for one. I'm getting in a DMB Pedals Lunar Echo and a Damage Control TimeLine soon so I'm upgrading my delay world even more. Those are some prime quality delays!

    About the RE-20;

right you are. It's a bit of a one trick pony. I use it solely for washes and oscillation, that's all. Definitely not a really special delay.

  • About a looper:

your standards a pretty high! ms readout? I've only seen that on the Eventide TimeFactor. What do you want to do with the looper? Just jam with yourself? Or do it like me? Stack some melodies and scapes? If so, the BOSS RC-20XL will do just fine, just like the DigiTech JamMan. If you want a more complex looper, get the BOSS RC-50. I can't really think of any better loopers out there, to be honest, besides using software: like Ableton Live.

  • So, all in all; check out those delays here on YouTube! Highly recommended! And check out if you can get what you want out of the RC-20XL. If it's too much, you could even look at a RC-2.

Cheers and thanks for all the kind words!

  • wonderful

  • Thanks! I really appreciate your comments and interest!

  • Why are you trying to change to the voodoo lab power source? did you have any problems with the power brick? I'm asking it because I've just bought an Artec unit... thanks, great music

  • I recently changed to two Burkey Flatliner SIX units. I changed the Artecs because they weren't truly isolated. The Artecs gave me a bit more noise than the Burkey's. It's different for each rig. I just have a lot of noise issues.

  • that is a wonderful sound and totally great for a new sound of music. just like my pedal but i am missing a pedal or two just to get that sound. Keep rocking dude!!

  • Thank you!

  • omg.

    That's completely sick! WOnderful, man!

  • Why, thank you! That's very kind of you. I'm glad you liked it.

  • And you know what? You deserve an explenation.

I'm a musician as well (I TRY to play guitar).

I was looking for some "effects" inspiration, in order to complete my set up...

At first I saw your rig demonstration videos and I liked them and I saw this one...I listened to it opening 3 different pages.

Simply, post-rock (you, know) demonstrates a "Weird" theory: no need of scales or shredding to say something. Just embrace that "peace of wood" and forget about it ;-)

If you know what i mean...;-)

  • ha, yeah, I know what you mean. Taking the time to convey the message/feeling. Thanks for enjoying it, once more!

  • So amazing! I have been wanting to capture this sound for around a year now. I have a Boss Me-50 for effects along with Sonic Maximizer and EQ for tone changes. Could you give me any types in creating some sounds like this one. I have been a fan of ambient music for awhile now you have captured "the sound" I have been dreaming of!

  • Thanks man! It's lovely to hear that you find it so pleasant! Well, regarding tips: loads of delay and chorus and at the end, mix it with reverb. A lot of my sound comes from HEAVY, DEEP analog chorus. Without it, it sounds so bland. So, that's actually one of the secrets to my sound. I can't give you the exact settings and pedals since I've done that too much. [and trust me, I've been asked too OFTEN] - Just experiment! It's fun!

  • Thanks for the info. Keep up the good work!

  • It's my pleasure. Thanks!

  • Hello, I really liked it. I would love to have, all your pedals.

    G'bye:)

  • Thank you! And ha, man, if I were a millionaire, I'd give you the money to buy 'em yourself. ;)

  • That sounds fantastic! Similar to stuff we use to link together songs when playing live shows.

As always, great sound and good video.

    Reminds me of Blade Runner.

  • Thanks for the compliment, Craig!

And oh, really? I'd like to hear that sometime!

  • fantastic

  • Why, thank you! I'm flattered.

  • exceptionally well done, sir! what spectacular sounds...

  • Thank you, Josh! That's very kind of you!

  • YES!! my dear friend.

    HELL YEAHS!

  • Right on!
