@Marceki111 You did listen to the full song. It was playing as the lyrics were scrolling. This was just a reference, nobody ever recorded it beyond this. Although I did give it to some DJ's who wanted a copy, so who knows where you may hear it. lol
@jtrouptv I know where you could get airplay even though the vocals are REFERENCE vocals, just send the song to mmrphoenix (at) megamixx (dot) ca, that is Bridget-Leigh "Ladi Phoenix" Minor, owner of MegaMiXx Radio, where I won a 2CD set of Valentine's Day-themed songs.
I love the beat. Yes you can sing. Love the Richard Pryor shirt. Love that you're using Cubase. I can hear Ludacris spittin some bars between the 2nd verse and last chorus. You got a new subscriber!
this is so fly, birds be hatin/ sayin troup come down, vibe pulsating / make beats seem like you roll with d blaine/ old school makin hits like d train lol
@jtrouptv My bad dude I thought this was a rap song I didn't finish watching the video. It all came together for me once I heard the singing sorry for being slow..Actually this is my type of R&B I like the lyrics and the music. Even if it was made a few years ago its still relevant because the lyrics are real life so it stands up in time.
You got some serious skills dude from production to writing and you can sing it.
We need those types of songs with a good story line and music. Keep it up
dis song hella bad man good work...been watchin yo vids for a while just now use reason tryin to get it done pack like i got fl studio....good work again man....
I recognized a Reason patch there, but this video was done before Record came out so, you either Re Wired or exported from Reason? BTW Shot out sfrom FP fam
I like that you do not sample other peoples music....there are way to many people out there that dont know how to play a damn chord but call themselfs Musicians!!! you have good stuff..keep it up!! PS. why do you have plugins poping up all over the place while the song is playing ?
Damn homie, that was tight. and your beeing too hard with youself, your so much better in singing, than I am, that means I gotta respect it. It was good seriously, but I guess you already know that. and yeah, people forget, what Autotune been designed for, make you hit notes you missed, not make you sound like a talkbox. keep on doin what you do, much love.
What's the deal J.Troup?!? I hear you playa. This video is what it's all about, man! This is why we got off our 'real' jobs and take it to the lab for another 7-8 hrs. Stay on that grind man, and keep it tight in 08.
oh No problem bruh I know how it is being in the studio I am busy like crazy. People telling me I don't spend time. I can't explain enough to them. Time and games are over it's about my grind I can't play around and go out every week my fun is in the studio. they need to understand. but I will check what you said. I need that bad cause I record on a dvd 8mm
Ok,Vegas Video will transfer my DV camcorder to Mpeg/Mpeg2? I will see if I can buy it, I don't know about limewire or I will ask my boy to see about it. Thanks I will check into it. Peace and blessings
Peace JTroup, what type of camera did you use? I want to get the DVD camcorder with Mpeg-2 and see if it can load on youtube. I will cut it through my Power Mac, and save all what I did on disc. So let me know. Peace
I first started making beats in 2003. I started off with a Triton Studio and Cubase SX. But I've been doing music my whole life...singing, writing, playing different instruments, etc. Making beats was something I been wanting to do since about 1990, but I never had the money to. Plus i had to finish HS and College. :)
Hey j man i watched your video a few times and i like what your doing. i just have a few questions 4 u. here is mu first one . what kind of web cam do u use?
i really respect the fact that you take the time out to respond, im about to start posting somethings on you tube, i made need few pointers from you. you seem be a cool cat, be easy and i will be intouch
One more question, I see a lot of people posting original music on Youtube, they will put Copyright 2007 in the vid. The guy from TalkMusicBiz says that doesn't mean anything in court unless you register it with the copyright office. My question is when you submit to an open call for music like the Bad Boy thing and you made the track that day. Have you really registered your copyright that fast or do you usually register it within 30 days of production?
You don't have to wait to RECEIVE the copyright in order to submit your music to things. Thing is with the copyright office, is it's first come first serve. So I put my copyrights in the mail, and then send the tracks off. As long as I copyright my stuff before anyone else tries to, then it's cool. :)
I was wondering did you have any formal training in music? Can you read music? If a producer can't read music, do you feel it will limit the opportunities you have as a producer?
very well done J.Troup, dont trip about the reference vocals, all us songwriters gotta do it...haha its embarassing at times but its the only way we could have other artists hear it the way it sounds in our heads...but this is def a niceee video...good job with the harmonies too! I see ur from Ohio, we're from Chicago...so we're practically neighbors haha....neways good luck wit the music, we'll see you at the top.
Good video. It really makes me want to fast forward everything I wanna do. Of course, I want to be more on the gospel end. Anywayz, good stuff. As far as the singing, you're the producer. You dont need to sound great...lol..just needa let the guy whos gonna sing the song know how it goes. Mad props son. OneL
I could recommend that you listen to some electro/prog house for an inspiration for some new sounds. or minimal such as one of my favourite artists minilogue. Just to get a feel of possible future sounds. Trentemøller (trentermoeller) might also be a fun angle to listen to some totally different sounds. Good luck with your work though. Fun to watch production techniques.
Yeah i see what you mean man. Im also a producer, progressive trance, psy prog, and minimal. This I know is in a totally different field, but its the same goal as a producer. To create some out with some new and innovative sounds. The catch is to produce some good and unheard of sounds. Do u ever take time out to simply tweak some new sounds?
None taken. It's all about new and different sounds. People use ping pong balls and basket balls bouncing for drum sounds. Timbaland just did Ayo Technology for 50 Cent f/ Justin Timberlake, and that sounds like Mike Tyson's PunchOut, but nobody's complaining!
damn i don't like even this kind of music but thats a fuckin sick setup there. is that your shit or a commercial recording studio. i gotta get up to speed man.
Last question:I am not familiar really yet with the softwares but I think I read somewhere they have a fonction called harmony that creates automatically harmonies?I am wrong on this?If not why is it better to do harmonies over and over by yourself?
lol...damn dude. 1) Writing lyrics. Find a way to say something ordinary in an extraordinary way. Avoid common phrases and cliches
2) SX or VST...Depends on what you are looking to do. First determine your NEEDS and then choose a tool that meets your needs. SX just happens to meet my needs.
3) Lots of software create harmonies for you. But I don't need them. Plus that would make it sound too computerized. So I don't use them.
About Cubase, I have recently bought but not used yet Cubase VST.Should I sell it and get Cubase SX 3.0?I want to go full thrust on my productions as soon as I have my home studio set up so should I start with that VST or should I go straight to SX 3.0 you think?
Again I can see that song easily on any R&B singer album!I am sure you will provide a famous singer a nice track with this composition!!!
Wow one hour to come up with the melody and the lyrics is very impressive!I can come up with a melody quiet fast but I have problems with the lyrics.I think your lyrics were really nice on this song...easy to remember, really nice!!!Would you have an advice or a technique when you are writing the lyrics in your song?Any recommandations on that matter?
Hook and melody is really fine...I am feeling less the transition just before the ninth minute though. And you got a nice voice,really...Can I ask you how much time did it take you to record all the vocals and how much time did it took you to come with the vocals ideas and also with the lyrics?Sam
Thant for the compliments Sam! Writing the lyrics and coming up with the melody took me about an hour. Then laying all the vocal tracks took me about 3 hours, cuz I have to do multiple takes come up with and stack the harmonies, etc
Excellent work man.I am an aspiring producer, song writer but I have not yet my set up now except from my three keyboards. We stay in touch...Big respect for you!!!!Sam from Belgium.
hot track... great instrumental... additions, writing... singin wise you kinda sound like a rough montell jordan - i know singin isnt what your tryin to do... but i'm sure with a lil trainin' you might have summin.
my bad dude. Most of the demo tracks I've heard havent been great as far as the vocals, but i hear ya tho, it is a product after all, gotta entice the buyer.
Loved it your a really good writer...and beatmaker almost a tripple threat. WHere did u get that auto tune. Id like to get one but dont want to spend alot of money thanks.

I used a Sony DCR SR200. It records Mpeg 2. I always transfer to computer then encode in divx avi or wmv. Makes it alot smaller.
You should be good with your mac as far as all that goes tho.

1) Do you use vst or something else with midi?
2) Which type of mixer do you use in the video in cubase sx?
Thanks beforehand for your help

Thanx!
1) Reason is basically one big VST. Well for what I use it for anyway. So you could say yes.
2) That mixer is the default mixer in cubase.

Debonair73 4 years ago
Yes. I play a few instruments, and I can read (and write a LITTLE) sheet music.
Reading music isn't mandatory. It's all about the feeling and knowing HOW to put together the notes.
Reading music isn't a requirement of being a producer any more than knowing how to read is a requirement of talking...
But it helps. :)
