What kind of dumbass does it take to " dislike"this video...I dont think they realize how impressive that is that plane probally weighs as much as a small cruise ship....and these pilots managed to stop in with HALF a runway length....that is some fucking skill at its finest well done Angels.
@pipingmarine I'm sorry, I didn't want to hurt anybody. I just felt curious about how would it be with full cargo, if it's possible to do that. I think you're a little sensitive!!
I rode in fat albert a couple years ago. Pretty wild ride.. the loadmaster didn't sit down or strap in and pretty much went fully horizontal while holding onto the ladder at points. DO NOT eat immediately before taking that ride...
The "Sarajevo" landing is an approach that is quite critical and dangerous. I don't think there are videos of it here, but you can Google it, it looks very dangerous and you can read about it, interesting story behind it.
I captured the same in 2008, but you missed them backing up into their parking spot afterwards. Do they still do the JATO takeoffs? I worked with a USMC guy who said he had a JATO bottle got loose and put a hole in the wing.
I don't believe any slip was used at all. The wings are level and the nose is pointed down the runway. I believe the pilot just set the flaps, nosed over and throttled back. A nice flare at the bottom and touchdown. Slips (and crabs) are normally used to counteract crosswinds. When used to lose altitude, the aircraft has to be "dirtied up" to increase drag and reduce lift. This aircraft doesn't appear to be doing that.
Hey, DjMagnificien! If you had been inside that aircraft while they were doing that takeoff and landing, you'd be feeling some drama, along with your lunch and whatever you had for breakfast.
It's not an assymetric slip. You are correct. It is a forward slip. Google 'Airplane Forward Slip' and you'll see what I mean. That's what Fat Albert did.
Quiet, the nose dive is a manuever called a slip. It allows you to lose a large amount of altitude in a very short amount of distance. At the same time, it also allows you to maintain your airspeed so you don't get too fast in the dive, or too slow and stall out. They're useful if you have to clear mountains and have to immediately descend into final approach.
you ruined the video with the fucking music

@KD1video Thanks for taking the trouble to upload the video again! That's much better - and in HD, too.
We get a few Hercules flying around here, but nothing so colourful as that one.

Jeeez, bit risky having a Flag on the front of the plane at start up and taxying...

not the dramatic landing but the landing type Sarajevo
ONASEK1911 1 year ago
isnt that the landing they do when they are coming in to dangerous areas - like Baghdad? Minimizes the chances of being hit by a SAM?

They still do them....saw Fat Albert at Miramar in October. Still dramatic, and the short field landing there was very, very short!
