  • I'm getting REAL sick of seeing this test everywhere, and people claiming that it shows anything at all. Does it not occur to anyone, that all the results show is that once you're used to assigning white to left, black to right etc in the first trial, it's extremely difficult to reverse that in the second trial..? You'd get exactly the same trend, if you used any items, racially connected or not. These experiments are crap, BUT I do reckon the phenomenon exists. We're racist mo'fuckers.

  • @SubtleChaotic When the test is correctly done, they would do both first.. it's just not been shown here.

  • @blakesquakers

As a psychology undergraduate, I'm sincerely hoping that is true, and that the entire discipline isn't the joke it too often appears to be.

  • @SubtleChaotic I'm also a Psychology undergraduate :) my reply was only what we'd been told by our lecturer because that question had already been raised, although it may not be true. As with you, I do hope what I said was true, because otherwise the test would have little meaning whatsoever.

  • @blakesquakers

Hahahha. Where are you studying?? Yeah, I have a sinking feeling that many many 'experiments' in psychology really do have little meaning whatsoever. But we'll see. Good luck to us both!

  • @SubtleChaotic I'm studying at Lancaster University :) you? I get the same feeling.. but I guess that's why they do significance tests.. although I find myself always finding flaws in the experiments.

    Good luck!

  • @blakesquakers

    Canterbury (NZ)!

Yeah, well you can have all the statistical significance you like if your experiment it bollocks haha.

  • @SubtleChaotic I agree with you. I think they would have to use counterbalance. That means, if you are aware, switching the orders for different participants.. to ensure that there is no 'learning effect.'

  • @ThePsychology2010

..Yeah, it would be ridiculously easy to make this experiment valid.

  • @SubtleChaotic especially in the video game world where you have to memorize key setup quickly. it was very hard for me to switch. after a break, I broke the test up and found it much easier.

  • So, what I'm hearing is if a white person prefers whites, they are prejudice and horrible. If a black person prefers blacks, they are embracing their culture...

  • @BWhoYouWantTuBe Under white supremacy - yes. Not that you understand the concept of white supremacy or systemic racism.

  • @twinqletwinqle My comment was a silly observation based solely on the surface of what was said. As a matter of fact, I am quite familiar with the underlying racial concepts. I could, in length, explain why I doubt the reliability of this assessment instrument in measuring individuals' attitudes and preferences, but I'll save it for the tests & appraisal course in my master’s degree program. Oh, and thanks for the feedback.

MY SOURCES Scientific American: The Implicit Prejudice , WashingtonPost com: See No Bias, Harvard Science: Prejudices we won’t admit

    .

The test show that 10% of Blacks are NOT prejudiced against only 3% of whites

    .

Moreover, while 42% of blacks prefer whites and 48% prefer blacks, a whooping 80% of whites prefers whites and only 17% prefer blacks

Yep WHITES are far more racist and dont want to admit it in fear of losing their privilege to freely discriminate others

  • + 1 on what cbrstunter said.. also white sounds like right, no?

there are too many confounds / other possible explanations for the results..

i.e. if they then did a test with good on the left it'd give the study much more credence.. similarly if they did a test where black had to be linked with good first etc.

  • gotta clarify what they mean by "prejudice" Could mean: 1) ppl's gut feelings, do they get scared when they see ppl of a particular race, or 2) how they decide to act on those feelings. I think we can't control our feelings, but we are better now at controlling how to interpret and act on those emotions.

  • 25 years of TV that has changed from Whites having positive role models (Little House on the Prairie/Dukes of Hazzard) to the guilt ridden Whites are typically 'weak-and-losers' (currently), placed against strong Black males has caused enormous self-value issues and guilt for taking past pride in White race. Who's controlling the film industry, as it is not Whites, nor Blacks.....hmmmm?

  • The black people are proud to show a strong preference toward blacks, but the white people are ashamed that they show a strong preference toward whites.

If one of the above situations is racist, then they BOTH are. It's like blacks can't be racist, but whites can. Very unequal and complete BS!

  • @cbrstunter24

A victim and an Abuser both hate each other. Are they equally at fault? Any ill feelings black feel towards whites are the result of the ill feelings that whites FIRST expressed towards blacks. Not that hard to comprehend.

  • all people are racist..not just white..ignore the media indoctrination.

  • @ashken79

    .

NOPE. Whites r definitely far more racist than anyone else. As a black person on Youtube, I experience it daily. On almost ALL the videos in English where there are black folks, you will ALWAYS see racist comments with white supremacist undertones ALWAYS! But strangely, it's almost NEVER the case with videos about white people

    .

White people are by FFFFAAARRRRRR the most racist group of people, especially WHITE AMERICANS who seem to have an innate repulsive sense of entitlement

    .

    .

  • @goyavesETmangues It seems that the whites who are racist go about looking for opportunities to be hateful. And, I sincerely apologize on behave of my race of people, many of which I'd rather not be associated with, for their backwoods, uneducated, & uncivilized behaviors/comments.

  • lol, uh, don't use the words right, hype, delight, night, etc . . . u get my point, it's just the way your mind works. Try this with up and down.

  • What I think is interesting to consider is the other effects of what we are constantly shown on television - like sexual matters. Are we sub-consciously pushed into acceptance of sex outside of marriage, and acceptance of similar behaviors? This test could be applied to many things, and I think it is telling, what the testers decided to test with it.

  • How about everyone try the test??? They can be eye opening or at least fun :) Just Google Implicit Association Test and it takes you right to it!

  • DUH! After you get used to putting things in the left, it's hard to star putting it in the right.

  • im black and i probably prefer black people because im black and white people probaly prefer white people because there white i dont thinks its prejudice unless they make a decision concerning another person oon there preferences

  • I was shown moderately in favor of white to black. Which is not surprising to me, since when I was growing up. All the black kids at my school always wanted to fight and started all the trouble. When the whites werent nearly as bad.

  • Comment removed

  • I took the test and it said i had no preference for either group

  • and?

  • That's impossible, I couldn't even finish it for precisely that reason.

If you take the test SERIOUSLY, then you have already failed.

  • well when they did the test they did White-Good and Black-Bad first and thats what ppl remember thru the second time. But if they did White-Bad Black-Good first then....

  • i know what u mean. i'm recreating this test and administiring it out to people for my midterm project and i'm gonna flip the two around and see the results. But i think if they already have a bias, it would be difficult to associate black with good even from the beginning.

  • FORTY ONE BULLETS?!?!?!?!?!!! I think "hate" is a bit of an understatement here!
