Half life 2 is around 2300 along with portal 2 and the originals are suspected to take around 10 -20 years apart form each other

@S0hio Well, everyone says different things. Valve said about 300 years, and in a cut voice clip, GLaDOS says 50,000 years. The announcer says 9999999 (7 9's) 9999999/365= 27,397.25753 years. You also have to take into account all the decay in the test chambers. Personally, I believe what Valve says, about 300 years.

Chell has been the same charactor since portal 1 (you 1st person view) caroline was gladoses human form. cave jhonson was deying from drinking moonrock juice so he left caroline in charge, she then made herself an AI (glados) before she died. she then became engulfed with testing and lost all memory of caroline. In portal 2 you fall down to the bottom of appature science and these pre-recorded messages tell you this story.

@demnsda before glados was created appature science was a testing facility run entirely by humans, and they haave funny things like bring you daughter to work day, testing potatoe batteries, which gladoes eventually becomes a potato battarie :P. Though when glados was created she asked the humans for a little bit of nuro-toxin for "bring you daughter to work day" so she could see what happened to cats :P she then used nurotoxin on humans.

@demnsda stupid youtube text limit. anyhow chell hasn't got much of a back story, though i guessed her to be a clone in portal 1 of a test subject that "never gives up". at the end of portal 1 u get pulled back in in the "party escode submission possition", your put into cryo, at the beginning schene in my vid :P later (99999years) you get woken up by wheatly who has woken you up for testing.

also all the test subject were origionally homeless people off the streets.
