in my unit there were also a number of openly gay men who were embraced as part of our family. no one cared about their sexuality. they did their work, & in many cases better than the straights.

@Rac665 i'm gay & i served 4 years, was promoted to e-5 in 3 yrs & was asked to re-enlist. i was a member of the elite first termer's council & met with the base commander on a monthly basis.
in my unit there were also a number of openly gay men who were embraced as part of our family. no one cared about their sexuality. they did their work, & in many cases better than the straights.
dadt is bullshit & mccain knows it. that he's a bigot is another reason we're fortunate he's not president.

You sign a contract, take an oath to protect and defend and then spend the next 4 to 8 years being told what to do and when to do it. When you talk about your family, kids, spouse, girlfriend/boyfriend, etc. you are talking about your orientation. Ummmmm, are any of the people in the video planning on joining one of the branches of the military? Maybe you guys should look at the regulation prior to writing your senator. I served with people in the military and they were gay but like any other type of "behavior" that can be detrimental to the military, you can't go around "flaunting it". In military service you always put your service and Country first, end of discussion. If you don't like it than don't join, it's that easy.

The word 'clearly' is not hyperbolic when it's used to affirm evidence. Thus, my usage in these comments serves as affirmation to the evidence I've cited. Arguing civil rights over military service is absurd according to every way imaginable. When Congress is told they have the power to provide us rights by passing laws we put all our rights into peril, they will see that power as legitimate because you told them it was - because it was convenient to make the argument for the sake of an issue. Liberty is threatened by this, as it was when Don't Ask Don't Tell was enacted. Remember, soldiers serve in the military. Service cannot be construed as civil rights!
