David, a simple, but important question, ive been trying to figure out this, but im not sure definitely..., look, this is the thing, when u set the output of a stereo track to a bus, and u choose bus1, does this bus keep the signal as stereo, when i feed a new track with bus 1, is it gonna receive stereo signal? would u please explain to me about it, and whatnot? i would appreciate it, since i worked in ProTools b4, some differences are clear, and some others not so much, thx, learning lots
Even better, anyone knows where I can buy single sounds, like a high class oboe? No big pack with half-bad samples and 1000 loops. But being able to listen to a sample of classical instrument and download it from the website, "pay or not to pay" is not the question for a single sound.
I have a question for you commenters, how do I get this apple built-in quicktime synth recorded as audio? I can get hold of it using general midi device and play it but I can't bounce it or anything. Or can I ??
I'm using the Oboe from there. The Oboe in the Jam-pack does not even sound a little like an Oboe so even general midi device is better than that. It has a characteristic sound, like in "twistin my sobriety" beautiful. Jam-pack sounds like an undefinable ..pipe only Oboe by name
I am trying to convert a MIDI sample into an audio file. I am not having trouble sending my MIDI sample to BUS 1, but I can't seem to make the imput for my audio channel receive from BUS 1. When I click on Imput 1 nothing happens. Do you know whats wrong?
You should click and hold for a while. Another - easier way in my opinion - to create audio from midi is to right click on the region and click export as audio file. Although practicing with busses is a good idea to get a grip on logic, since you will need it for other things. Good luck!
David, when you recorded the midi to audio, you didn't seem to have the progress block pop up? I assume you already have a place where to record audio too? As when I tired this I had to make a folder
I have a question about converting from midi files to audio files. I do not understand why the file loses quality when it goes from midi to audio. It does not even sound the same. What can I do about this?
By the way your videos have been very helpful- thanks
absolutly awsome vids. just moved onver from pc to mac been using reason and cubase. I was very intimidated by logic but you have made it all worth while
You rock! I'm working my way through your tutorials and it's a great prep for me installing LE8 tonight! Been using Cubase & Reason for years but your tuts make the transition much easier! 10 karma points for you!
absolutely fantastic tutorials you've got.i bought logic express 8 two days ago, after seeing your tutorials.logic rocks!!!!!!!!thank you very much, all the best!!!!!
great videos! pro tools head here exploring new DAW possibilities and loving using logic for writing. thansk for helping to speed up the learning process.
hi i use logic 7 because i got shafted, long story. anyway i cant seem to choose my bus as an input for my audio file only input 1-2 and 3-4 is this not possible for logic 7?
Firstly thank you for taking the time to help us mortals ;-) the vids are really fantastic and the best part is that even I can understand how logic is set to work.
Since I have watched them I can now make Reason work with Logic via rewire and ultra beat is fantastic once you know what to do, but I do have a question, I am now trying to record vocals through Logic via a Samson USB mic and and I am having really bad feed back problems, any ideas?
Make sure to wear headphones when recording with the mic.. the mic may be picking up audio from the speakers and feeding back... if it's really feedback, that is...
Yes Im going to go off and bang my head against a wall because after buying the mic I just plugged it in and hit record in logic and failed to see that the monitor input button was highlighted doo!!!!
Keep up the fantastic work and how do you do guitars through logic do you need a pre amp??
A lesson on that would be really really good, oh and when are we going to see you wife to be art as a back drop (makes a good thing even better ;_)) Take care
hi, thank you so much for posting these videos. I have been trying to find out about the proper way to record both audio and midi information from my keyboard, but I couldn't find anything on google or manuals.
By the way, do you have a website where I can go listen to your music?
Thanks for the Bus pass! I've been looking for the most efficient way to input pre-recorded audio and have it behave like natively recorded Logic audio. Thanks.
Part-5 Also, I've used the MPC because of it's quantizing (The best). I want to transfer all the quantizing from the MPC to Logic. That's about 200 different quantizing signatures but, I'm willing to do the hard work because it makes a huge difference when you have the right quantizing. My brother is helping me do that but, wanted to know if you have done it before and how you would go about doing it. Again thanx
Part 4 Now, I do have a question since I do more R&B/Hip Hop. Can you show me how to take the quantize from a loop and convert it to a Logic quantize and save it so that when I pull up Logic it will see it every session?
Part-3 Long story short, Logic seems so easy now and much like Pro Tools, that I'm making the jump from the MPC to Logic for all my midi work and using Pro Tools for audio and mixing which I still feel is better in those fields but, who knows, I may even switch that.
Part 2...The reason I never used Logic is because it's sooo hard to learn and sooo much to get in your head at one time. So, I decided with a little help from my brother who's been a Logic user since 3.0 that I'm going to make the switch. Funny thing is that ever since 4.0, I've upgraded & updated no matter what even though I didn't use it. Now I own Logic Pro 8.0.1...Marc
Part-1...Man, all your video's are incredible and much needed for me. I've been using Pro Tools for 8 years with a MPC-3000 (I know-don't say it) but, I've also owned Logic for them same 8 years. First on PC which I hated and got a MAC after the first year and now Mac Pro....Marc
sfninja, just watched all of ur videos straight up, awesome work! i'm using express 7 but some of the features ur explaining here have convinced me to upgrade to studio.
you said it is possible to load samples into ultrabeat for organic drum sounds, but do you think it's effective? eg. with the new sounds that i'll pick up in studio would i be able to create realistic sounding programmed drums?
thanks for your help, looking forward to the next tutorial!
Honestly, the EXS24 is a much better bet for creating realistic, organic drum sounds. (Organic is a pretty funny term, tho. We should come up with an organic sound certification!)
A lot of people like the pattern-based sequencing that Ultrabeat provides, an just want to load their samples in it. This works, but you can't have more than 1 sample per key. That's a bit limiting.
ive been using logic for about a year, i really like how you go over the fundamentals as well as the more advanced stuff, your superb teaching is at a perfect level for me, keep it up man.
perhaps you could shed some wisdom on using key commands to improve work flow or somthing
what ever you put up, im sure itll be good, all watch it. you got the best vids man!!
David...you're videos are by far the best instructional ones I have seen on YouTube. As a new Logic 7 Express user who has graduated to Logic Studio in less than a year, thanks!
Thanks for another helpful video, you have a knack for making logic's more in-depth features seem so easy and accessible. Such a great learning resource.
Keep up the good work, brotha. I just finished editing, sound design, and scoring for a 50 minute radio drama (Dickens' Christmas Carol) using Logic 8 exclusively...this was my first big project after migrating from Cubase Sx3...and your videos went a long way towards making me feel comfortable in the Logic Setting. Anyways, thanks for the great service that you are doing.
Wow! I'm so glad I could help you out, C. I have to admit, there's no substitute for trial-by-fire when it comes to learning these programs, and that radio drama must've certainly been a lot of work. Great to hear from ya again. (And I'll make sure to pass your praise to Beth! :-)) -sfln

One more thing, I copied the way you revered the audio file, except that when I went to reverse the region Functions >> reverse.
Reverse was faded out?? I dont know why that is
zodiacie 3 years ago
You may not reverse an apple loop. You must convert the apple loop into a PCM audio file first....
I'm just assuming you are trying to reverse an apple loop...

SFLogicNinja 3 years ago
Sorted Dave thanks for that, was tired last time and not concentrating.
Apple loops seem to be a bit strict, I gather you would use the apple loops utility to manipulate them further

And in fruityloops you work with automation clips.
Thank you.
