53, today my B-day. And yes, I have muppets all around my house. Any old sailors remember being at "Gonzo Station"? I flew in Miss Piggy to the Fleet out of Diego Garcia delivering parts and mail 1979 - 1981. Retired from the Navy 4 years ago...sigh.
This was the greatest family show ever. Every Sunday night, we looked forward to sitting down with the children to watch the Muppet Show. So sad that no show has ever come close to the genius of the Muppets.

@stevemaggot8 and @sbseed you 2 are retarded. I know Johnny was country it was just an expression meaning that he was so cool that he transcended all genre's. He wasn't pigeonholed into one genre. So you 2 need to get a grip. Especially you @stevemaggot8.
spankapixie-when Michael Caine did the muppet xmas he said he went in insisting he wouldn't tlak to the 'puppets' just the artists and he said they won't let you, Ms. Piggy will NOT be ignored, you can't help yourself.
@spankapixie: I STILL can't see them as puppets, even though I know exactly what's going on down there and have done puppets myself. Jim and co just had the magic.
Nobody did this song like Johnny Cash, not even the original singers. His is by far my favorite rendition and with the Muppets added it's quirky beyond description too. :)
don't get me wrong I like the song and johnny cash I am just angry that then edit out the statler and waldorf joke they are one of the reasons I watch the muppet show
Everyone about my age (40) *loved* Johnny Cash and the grownups didn't understand why...it was because of the Muppet Show! RIP Mr. Cash, there won't be another like you...
The flag probably wasn't even his idea but everyone makes a big deal out of it. Johnny cash had alot of native heritage and preached racial tolerance in many of his songs so I don't think he was a bigot.
@x3DUARDO ... Confederate flag, and they were not rebels, the Union were the ones rebelling. They teach that here in Canada, don't they do that down there in the States?
@owenfranciscook The Confederate soldiers were called the Rebels. Not sure how you can say the Union were the ones rebelling when the Confederate states were trying to secede.
true about Jim Heenson at lest he had the for site to go in with dizney co. and now the henson will live on and should never fad like so meany other programs and things

This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@AandKRebels That just shows how ignorant the blacks and yanks are....that flag has nothing to do with slavery. It was actually a battle flag made specifically to be seen and easily noticeable as not being the stars and stripes in the heat of battle. Course none of the crybaby fools want to hear that, all they want is to cry and keep slavery as a crutch to justify their despicable behavior today.
@sbseed, where the hell is your rock that you've been under? You don't inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for just being a 'country singer'. How about you educate yourself before you open your mouth, and make yourself look like a fool.
@iboomer09 you do realize that country singers have and are inducted into the rock n roll HoF?!... like willie nelson who is a country singer, and micheal jackson who is the king of pop... the hall of fame isnt just for rock and roll artists.
besides what people say someone is 'professionally' and what the music is that they do are sometimes like with him and roy orbison (another country singer) they are considering to be rock in the music industry but everything they do in real life is country
"Hammer!" is more like "WOW! Just... wow!". Or "stunning". Just more everyday speech, mostly used by kids, lower-class people or people who think it's cool to talk like lower-class. A term that became popular in Germany after a not-so skilled yet famous singer used a too much in the German equivalent show of "American Idol"...
Calling Johnny Cash "Hammer!" is like saying "Leonardo da Vinci? Yo, phat!"
Synonyms would be "genial!" (ingenieous!) or "großartig!" (great!)
One of my favorite songs from my very earliest days -- first grade, to be exact! In Colorado's cattle range country. Love it with the original great singer.
Next weekend is our county fair with bull riding, cattle roping, barrel racing, the real stuff.
Ya gotta be a good sport to play with the muppets!!
Can you imagine life when we were growing up without the Muppets? It was the elixer of life for us...good, wholesome, and downright funny! Those were the days! It's a shame our kids are not exposed to good stuff like this. Now it's all violence, sexual innuendos, and stuff our kids really don't need to be worrying about at their age. Our society is going to hell in a handbasket....funny part is, that's what our parents were saying about us when we where growing up.
@funkateerkitty After I got out of the service, in the 80's, I went to college in North Dakota, at NDSU-Bottineau, and it's a small town. It was like taking a trip back in time, say 20 years! I crossed the street, and passed between parked cars. Here was this El Camino, window rolled down, keys in the ignition, checkbook sitting on the dash. I was shocked, and went to some of the stores asking who owned the car. Finally a lady told me, don't worry, most of the homes here don't have locks!
This takes me back to my childhood! I remeber my parents listening to the great Johnny Cash and my brothers & sister and I waatching The Muppet Show!! What a Treat for me today!!
