Sad to hear of Franks passing. I saw him race many times - Ford Falcon, Chevy Camaro, Lola 70GT, Escorts, F5000 Lola and many more. In fact the very first race meeting I went to at Crystal Palace in 1963 Frank was competing in the Formula Junior event.
Yes, this is a fantastic video! Thanks for posting! "Rarely got attitude-on in the motorcar - a terrible waste of time" Frank's insight, racing book and technique were a significant influence in my attempts at fast driving.
Great to see the track before they sanitized it with silly chicanes! I pretty much grew up at oulton, loved deers leap, it looks so much steeper in the clip, did they fill it in a bit?...great driver!
Frank was a great driver. even though I loved the Escorts more back then. Crystal Palace was the place to watch - Formula 2 with the Formula 1 drivers and then the saloons.
I remember a race (1972ish) at Brands Hatch when it was all down to Frank against John Fitzpatrick in the Escort RS1600 and you could hear the "BRRRRRRRRR" and the "WEEEEEEEE" all around the back of the track, then a "BOOOOOOOMFFFFF" and an Escort and a Camaro came sliding backwards towards Clearways.....:-) Brill
Wow, those were the days when racing drivers were real men who'd been around a bit (no offence Lewis!). Frank was one of my boyhood heroes after seeing him in the Alan Mann Escort and other beasts of the day. Great footage.
crikey thats a rare video !!, i was 14/15 when i saw frank and his sca european road services sponsored camaro, at the 1973 brands hatch race of the champions. bloody awesome, i have never forgot that.

Gutted to hear of his passing. Such great anecdotes and one-liners gone forever from a phenomenal racing driver.

I love the brown loafers. I think my generation was the last that had to learn how to heel and toe. Most BMW kids actually cant do it.

@onthewinghard Heh not for real racers. Most club racing guys do it quite well.

Frank 'Spade is a spade' Gardner !, a very underated driver, could turn his hand to anything & be quicker than most people.
