The rest of the band wanted to move on while Steve was faced with the choice of going on tour or having to heal from the surgery he had. they forced him to make a decision when he was in need of medical help. I would have chosen health as well. they could have waited on him to heal.

Dont know whether its true or not, but I did hear it from several different sources. I heard that he lost his voice and had retired to California. Hope its not true, cuz what a loss that would be. Saw Journey in Dallas, and his voice just took me to another place. One of the most beautiful voices we will ever hear. Love ya Steve. Plz make a comeback if possible for all ur fans. @eljay345, I agree with you 100%. Nothing from the present Journey will be like it was once with Steve Perry. Steve may be recording and if so it will be incredible!! Steve is a perfectionist and will only release a cd if he is 100% with it. Greatness at work, that's my take on Steve in 2011.

If Neal Schon thinks New Journey (as I call 'that band' now without Steve Perry as lead singer) is going to in his words 'conquer the world' with Arnel Pineda as their lead singer then Neal Schon's excessive facial botox has obviously stopped his brain from working properly. Have you all heard their new cd Eclipse? All the songs on that new cd sound very similar to each other whereas Journey's hit songs all have a unique quality to them and that is mainly due to Steve Perry's amazing vocals.
Oh my God!!! I'm sitting here crying, I love this song so much. I first heard it when I was 15 years old, sitting up late at night, nursing my first heartbreak. I fell in love with it then and could never remember who sang it. That was almost 17 years ago ( I make 32 this year). I saw them in concert many many times and always to sold out crowds of screaming fans ... he put JOURNEY on the charts and correct where are they today? I believe that Steve was given a bad deal by the members of Journey. Contrary to what ANYONE says,Steve didn't leave the band,the band gave him a choice;have your surgery or we find a replacement singer. Steve chose to have the surgery,he did what was best for him. I saw Journey play in Reno,NV. and honestly from the depth of my soul,felt like I was "cheating" on Steve Perry. That was my last Journey concert. Love you much Steve, one devoted Perry fan.
@Ginagiovani If I remember correctly the group as you said "did give Steve a choice." However, Steve like my wife(lol)needed to do the surgery in his time not the bands! Steve was likely considering that if the surgery failed his career would be over(bum hip=no singing on the road), so he needed to take time to be sure for him and nobody else! Journey simply wasn't patient enough in my opinion unless strained relationships between Steve and other members had a role too!

It is a formation that bespeaks of a family positioning. I believe in the videos from the Giants game you are looking at the mother of his sons that are gathered around him. He moved on with his life past rock n roll idol. One only needs to looks to see the familiar interaction that allows being that close to another person and that is fatherhood you are looking at.

It is always noticeable how this guy has his voice acoustically enhanced with electronic effects such as echoes, reverbs. Even when he was in Journey, the same effects are in place. Victoria Beckham and other singers do this, that's why they're all very comparable.
It's why such singers sound crap at concerts, they don't have the benefit of the producer's doing their magic with their acoustic effects.
As for great singers, Bono, Bobby Darin ... And Perry is not a Tenor. LMAO

Here Steve has lost that braggadacio and his sensitivity is so palpable. I don't think the producer's choice of female was the best; they seem so disparate. His hair so beautifully outlines his face and lean body, and he communicates like a dancer - delicate, melancholy, and beguilingly imploring. His Portugese heritage highlights his allure - he is like the Native American alone on the plateau, beseeching the spirits.

@eljay345 Steve Perry is BY FAR my favorite singer ever! He is my God, musically, but I believe Hugo Valenti can sing with this type of vocals as well, and do it VERY WELL too, although he's no Steve Perry.
I also believe James LaBrie from Dream Theater can sing this beautifully, and he has on certain songs, but unfortunately his guitarist and his -ex- drummer would mostly compose heavy metal redundant fast scales type of rubbish, and it did not allow James to express himself as well....

Dont know whether its true or not, but I did hear it from several different sources. I heard that he lost his voice and had retired to California. Hope its not true, cuz what a loss that would be. Saw Journey in Dallas, and his voice just took me to another place. One of the most beautiful voices we will ever hear. Love ya Steve. Plz make a comeback if possible for all ur fans. If Neal Schon thinks New Journey (as I call 'that band' now without Steve Perry as lead singer) is going to in his words 'conquer the world' with Arnel Pineda as their lead singer then Neal Schon's excessive facial botox has obviously stopped his brain from working properly. Have you all heard their new cd Eclipse? All the songs on that new cd sound very similar to each other whereas Journey's hit songs all have a unique quality to them and that is mainly due to Steve Perry's amazing vocals.

Oh my God!!! I'm sitting here crying, I love this song so much. I first heard it when I was 15 years old, sitting up late at night, nursing my first heartbreak. I fell in love with it then and could never remember who sang it. That was almost 17 years ago ( I make 32 this year). I've been looking for it ever since, almost gave up...thank you for posting this.

Steve Perry was the voice of JOURNEY .. I so agree. I saw them in concert many many times and always to sold out crowds of screaming fans ... he put JOURNEY on the charts and correct where are they today? I would love to have a new STEVE PERRY album .. I have the album JOURNEY released in Japan. Its great ... yes before Steve Perry .. pretty much just instrumental but still original none the less ... I love this man .. Would love to see him out and on tour I would pay big bucks for him.

I believe that Steve was given a bad deal by the members of Journey. Contrary to what ANYONE says,Steve didn't leave the band,the band gave him a choice;have your surgery or we find a replacement singer. Steve chose to have the surgery,he did what was best for him. I saw Journey play in Reno,NV. and honestly from the depth of my soul,felt like I was "cheating" on Steve Perry. That was my last Journey concert. Love you much Steve, one devoted Perry fan.

@Ginagiovani If I remember correctly the group as you said "did give Steve a choice." However, Steve like my wife(lol)needed to do the surgery in his time not the bands! Steve was likely considering that if the surgery failed his career would be over(bum hip=no singing on the road), so he needed to take time to be sure for him and nobody else! Journey simply wasn't patient enough in my opinion unless strained relationships between Steve and other members had a role too!

I am talking about the video that can be found with SP on the San Fransciso Trolley. The positioning of the pretty young blond haired woman with the two boys in between then Steve. It is a formation that bespeaks of a family positioning. I do not know but I have a intution inside of me after seeing Bret Michaels, and Gene Simmons and other how they worked out a family behind the scenes. The pretty blonde lady in the baseball cap isn't Sherrie. That deal was over years ago and there is no lagging relationship left there. I believe in the videos from the Giants game you are looking at the mother of his sons that are gathered around him. He moved on with his life past rock n roll idol. One only needs to looks to see the familiar interaction that allows being that close to another person and that is fatherhood you are looking at.

It is always noticeable how this guy has his voice acoustically enhanced with electronic effects such as echoes, reverbs. Even when he was in Journey, the same effects are in place. Victoria Beckham and other singers do this, that's why they're all very comparable.
It's why such singers sound crap at concerts, they don't have the benefit of the producer's doing their magic with their acoustic effects.
As for great singers, Bono, Bobby Darin ... And Perry is not a Tenor. LMAO

Here Steve has lost that braggadacio and his sensitivity is so palpable. I don't think the producer's choice of female was the best; they seem so disparate. His hair so beautifully outlines his face and lean body, and he communicates like a dancer - delicate, melancholy, and beguilingly imploring. His Portugese heritage highlights his allure - he is like the Native American alone on the plateau, beseeching the spirits.

About 2 times a year I come back to this song because it's all I can take.
15 years ago my brother buried this CD with his 3 month old son Cameron, so this song in particular completely destroys me. I can't not cry recalling a brother who's also a best friend as he knelt in front of a his son's casket completely inconsolable. I had no words for you then brother and I have no words for you today. I believe in God & so as events like these are allowed to happen then the depth of that faith will be challenged for any compassionate human being.
Upon considering having seen how much my brother loved Cam, for the short time he was here, I have to believe that the foothold to my faith was within that time frame.

Heartwrenching song and I feel for him, but was it not the case that Sherrie cheated on him? Heard that somewhere. She went on tour in America with him in a camper and is on "faithfully" getting off a train abroad with him. Perhaps he was hurt too much and can't trust again. If it is true he must have been devastated and that with his poor Mom's illness and subsequent death must have been more than anyone could bear and I am not surprised its affected him. Waiting for CD Steve?

@eljay345 Steve Perry is BY FAR my favorite singer ever! He is my God, musically, but I believe Hugo Valenti can sing with this type of vocals as well, and do it VERY WELL too, although he's no Steve Perry.
I also believe James LaBrie from Dream Theater can sing this beautifully, and he has on certain songs, but unfortunately his guitarist and his -ex- drummer would mostly compose heavy metal redundant fast scales type of rubbish, and it did not allow James to express himself as well....

He can rock us off our asses & then turn around & touch your heart so deeply you (or at least myself) can't help shedding some tears. Journey was/ix my bad, my boyz, their music still revs me up & Steve brought so much more to the table than a voice..he brought heart, soul, sincerity, beauty, joy, fun & awesome memories, to have that gift must be extraordianary. As a teenager I was lucky enough to have a pilot for a Dad and I would get to go to San Francisco for the day to "Breathe Steve Perry Air" and pick up leaves that "maybe he had walked on." All tragically teenaged but what a way to go... I'll be 40 in a month and still love Journey!!!!!!!
