@ChocolateisIsNice I think if we left it up to Lucas to come up with the flashbacks it would ruin the scene...he'd probably put Jar Jar Binks in there or something...the fan made flashbacks I have seen for this have been amazing and I think far better than what Lucas would ever do. However, I do not believe he will ever do it.
Everytime I watch that scene, I always wonder what was going through his mind seeing his Luke in agony. I wish they could make a special edition with this scene intertwined with flashbacks from the prequel movies.
Although this was as serious scene, when Palpatine was falling, I could not help but internally laugh, thinking "you should have seen that coming when you told Vader that Padme was dead in Ep III"
@Sammy125346 Maybe, but it wouldn't have been so dramatic for us, the audiance. ^^;
Also, I don't think he could strike without anger. Then again, maybe he was aware of the danger and decided to sacrifice himself in order to completely destroy the Sith. As I often reason: there is so many who hates him in the galaxy, he would never be welcome anywhere (except his son) and finally got the courage to face the one foe he feared: death.
@Nintendoggy no Vaders old master Obi-wan still respects him evan though hes a sith Obi-wan never stoped believing in vaders light side to return never did luke Obi-wan didnt show it yoda beleaved to but if they showed vader might have sinced them
i like this gives you some supposed insight what Vader was thinking .......how he's come full circle ..seeing through his son ....the choice he should have made in almost the same circumstances with Mace and the fate of galaxy on line a generation before..nice.
Awesome Job man! I like that you added where mace gets killed cuz that is when he turned to the dark side. Seeing he son go thru the same thing reminded him of when he turned
good job. you could have added a scene where palpatine says he'll be able to save the ones he loved from dying, and show vader killing padme and obi-wan...
A flashback that shows Anakin getting mauled, burned and being operated on while in conjuction with Luke suffering from the force lightning would have been extremely powerful...
This would have been way cooler if you used that Padme footage from Episode III where she's looking onto the city and just starts crying, but this was still really epic.
Nice work. I always had that kind of feeling when I watch this scene. I think you should have added in the scenes when Anakin failed to save Shumi and when he choked Padmei. That would have been neat. But great job.
LOL I bet Darth Vader is pissed that Sidious lied to him..ironic was the Darth Plagueis story but more ironic was the fact that he turned to the Darkside and became a Sith to save his wife, which is why he killed her because he got angry..ironic. Also Padme lived her whole life to defend the Republic, she was the main cause of its fall.

The last thing I'd want reminding of during such an epic scene is that "Darth vader" in the prequels was a snotty, whinging brat who would willingly pervert and use the "force" as a superhero like quality and jump put of a hover car in a scene in Attack of the clones. Leave the originals alone! However, had the prequels been made good, then yes, a flash back would have been nice.
Isn't it strange how when Vader grabs Sidious, Luke merely watches him and stops groaning in agony as if nothing had happened when in reality he had been on the edge of death and the power of Force Lightning causes severe agony for the body and mind. Luke should not have been able to simply get up. He would have been in too much pain...yet he sits up and watches curiously as if nothing is wrong with him at all. That was not good acting on Mark Hamill's part.
True, and keep in mind that the technology wasn't as good as it is today. Also, Luke is needed in good strength for the rest of the movie to get Vader and himself out of the Death Star before it explodes; if Luke was truly in the agony that would result from Force Lightning, he would not have been able to do so. Lucas knew this and made the necessary adjustments.
@SS4Xanatos Blame the direction taken for the scene, not Hamill's acting. If Marquand and Lucas wanted him to continue moaning in pain, he would of done so. Apparently though, being "shocked" at Vader's change of heart took higher priority in the film's writing.
That would be cool but because of what happened to him, he doesn't have much ability to make them anymore without extreme physical pain. (See Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire)
@jackbeletz i hate it too; however, you can still feel the torture and turmoil within vader while luke is dying in front of him and then he makes the right choice and saves his sin
After watching Episode 3, the scene of Anakin's redemption has new meaning for me. The saga really does make sense now, because as he looks back and forth while the Emperor is trying to kill Luke, Anakin is remembering the incident with Windu so many years ago, the day when Anakin turned to the dark side. You can tell that Anakin has regretted that day for so many years, and now is his chance to redeem himself. The parallel between the Windu scene and the Luke scene is so powerful.
I actually think Flash Backs are something Lucas should add to this scene.
