WOOOOOOOOW... YOU ARE TALENTED :)!!!! I saw one of your comments on another page about missing Australia and all.. my heart went out for ya :(... I DO so hope, if you haven't been able to yet, you are able to be home soon w/ your friends at-least for a holiday :)... Take care, and BEAUTIFUL music here... is it you singing?? WOW either way, it's GORGEOUS!!! Take care and HUGS :)
This song gets played on 2CH (AM1170) in Sydney from time to time. I've only heard it a few times, but like thousands of songs from that era, I like it. :-)
The late 60s early 70s was a great time to be growing up listening to so many fabulous singers. Around that time there was an innocence in a lot of the music especially the singer songwriters....Lobo, Cat Stevens, David Gates etc.etc. Too many to list but great, great memories for anyone who lived through those years as a teenager. Ross D. Wylie was one of many talented artists. I hope he is enjoying his life, thanks for the memories Ross.....
hes a legend...he wrote this and a number of others what a great songwriter ! This is one of my fave all times I dedicate it to some of my Swedish friends !! (who are stars !)
I still love this song and those days had better music than now. I was very young but I was glued to the TV or radio when these guys sang including Normie Rowe and Masters Apprentices etc etc
Always loved this song. Bought the single in '69 and still have it in my collection. In '86 the band I was in at the time backed Ross for a few gigs and I got to play this song live.
Classic from 1969 and written by none other than Johnny Young, who'd host Young Talent Time in the 70's and 80's. I found a 45 single of this at a record store at Nobby Beach on The Gold Coast. Great song about the cost of fame.
Perfectly described by acdchooters. A classic. Love the comment by janie1961 re Johnny Young being almost an Aussie Jimmy Webb. I agree - he is one of Australia's greatest songwriters - love the feel of his songs; The Star, Smiley, not to mention The Real Thing, The Girl That I Love etc. Also loved Part 3 into Paper Walls- and remember "I Thank You" (Lionel Rose)? Was that our first indigenous No 1 record??
Sure do,...the program was sat morning if I remember right, Also caught happening 70 and sounds with Donny Sutherland..and can't forget Awful movie with Deadly Earnest.
I'm 53 - oh yeah, I remember and never missed it. Russell Morris, Brian Cadd, Zoot........brings shivers to my spine to hear them now, takes me right back.
My older brothers first single he bought back in the day. He's now 50 but I've never forgotten watching Ross D.Wylie performing amongst other great Aussie stars of the day.Funnily enough it's Hermins Hermits who saw success with it as well.
OOPS... I JUST read what ya wrote.. I see now it's not you...but WOW it IS GORGEOUS music!!!! :) Sigh....

It is my understanding that the backing vocals are sung by Johnny Young and Grantley Dee. And it is Johnny Young speaking at the end of the record.

The Star, another great Johnny Young penned song, along with The Real Thing, Part Three Into Paper Walls, Smiley, I Thank You.
Young was really flying around 1969-1970.
The voice introducing The Star sounds like? Johnny Young?
