Before WWII, our armed forces were technologically behind Germany and Japan, and we had let our armed forces backslide. One of the reasons some of the early battles like Guadalcanal were so bloody was that our soldiers were fighting with out of date weaponry. On top of that, Pearl Harbor had made a shambles of the Pacific fleet. There was a reason we had scrap drives and warbonds back then, to build the weapons and equipment necessary to fight the empires of Japan and Germany.

I'm not a fan of propaganda, but you have to remember that World War II is nothing like the wars of today. Read a history book sometime people.
