@GuyFawkes501 cuz I think it's great. The first act is able to transcend language barriers and it never bores without dialogue. The whole movie is entertaining for all ages, it's a feast for the eyes, it has a marvelous screenplay, dazzling sound, has an important political theme in it, imaginative premises, and a timeless love story.
@adrianlindsaylohan Personally, I prefer to have a few very intense, extremely well developed themes than a broad range of good ones. Of course, I can see why you would pick wall-e as #1, but I could never bring myself to do that. Iron Giant is the essence of my childhood; It holds sentimental value for me.
These are my choices: - Animation: FINDING NEMO (4EVER!) - Fantasy: THE LORD OF THE RINGS - THE RETURN OF THE KING - Sci-fi: E.T. THE EXTRATERRESTRIAL - Sports: MILLION DOLLAR BABY - Western: IL BUONO, IL BRUTTO, IL CATTIVO - Gangster: THE GODFATHER - Mystery: ? - Romantic comedy: ANNIE HALL - Courtroom drama: PHILADELPHIA - Epic: GLADIATOR
The gangster picture is such a side genre it isn't even worth mentioning compared to a genre as massive as sci fi ? HORROR why didn't they replace I dunno sports or fucking courtroom drama with say HORROR!!! An important genre of film and storytelling. Referring to EPIC as a genre is embarrassing. EPIC is not a genre in any classical since. It's a sense of place you get when your watching a film even a subtle moment and a small movie can feel epic if shot properly. This list sucks.
Gangster genre is a HUGE part of American cinema, just because it doesn't have huge numbers of films doens't make it any less important. And epic deserves its own list because while Platoon and Apocalypse Now are both about Vietnam they are still VERY different kinds of movies. Horror would've been a wasted list, those movies are trash.
im sorry, but some horror movies aren't trash. there have been a lot of classic horror films, like psycho, the birds, jaws, night of the living dead, and many others. true, the genre has become notable for trash, like many of the horror movies we're getting nowadays and some old campy ones, but there are horror movies that have become extremely influential and well-known.
@filmvideogamesbooks Horror hasn't really become trash. It's just evolved into a subgenre where bodily horror is the only selling point to get people to flock to the theater. But there's a difference between suspense and shock and bodily horror is just a form of shock with no suspense.
Gone with the wind is the best movie (and book) ever made. ( I know lawrence of arabia was chosen the best epic, but still...) It's just...amazing, it's great, it's so...I just think it represents the golden age of Hollywood and what cinematic industry can do; Transports us to another era and make us feel the characters emotions.
Top 10 Sports were: 10. Jerry Maguire 9. National Velvet 8. Breaking Away 7. Caddyshack 6. The Hustler 5. Bull Durham 4. Hoosiers 3. The Pride of the Yankees 2. Rocky 1. Raging Bull
American Films 01 Animation: Dumbo 02 Fantasy: The Wizard of Oz 03 Sci-Fi: 2001: A Space Odyssey 04 Sports: Rocky (The prefer Raging Bull, but is not "technically" a sport, but of a brilliant tragic character study) 05 Western: Stagecoach or The Searchers 06 Gangster: The Public Enemy (I see the Godfather as an "America/Shakespearean tragedy film" with Gangster elements) 07 Mystery: Vertigo 08 Romantic Comedy: It Happened One Night 09 Courtroom Drama: 12 Angry Men 10 Epic: Gone with the Wind
01:Toy Story 02:King Kong 03: 2001: A Space Odyssey 04: The Karate Kid 05: The Magnificent Seven 06: Scarface 07: Rear Window 08: The Apartment 09: 12 Angry Men (Why doesn't this one ever get recognized as one of the greatest movies ever made?) 10: Apocolypse Now Notes: If i could have put foreign movies, I'd have put The Good the Bad and the Ugly as the top western. -I think that they should have included war movies as one category, instead of fantasy
Animation: Toy Story (Maybe Snow White) Fantasy: Wizard of Oz Sci-Fi: Star Wars IV (Maybe Clockwork Orange) Sports: Rocky Western: Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid Gangster: The Godfather (Maybe Pulp Fiction) Mystery: Rear Window Romantic Comedy: ????? Courtroom Drama: 12 Angry Men Epic: Gladiator These aren't actually their choices, just mine.
uh, if those are your opinions, that's fine, but the awards actually went to Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs for Animation, To Kill a Mockingbird for Courtroom Drama, and Lawrence of Arabia for Epic. Oh, and City Lights for Romantic Comedy.
Music Themes For Each Genre Animation: Fantasia (Dance of the Hours) Fantasy: Edward Scissorhands Sci-Fi: Day the Earth Stood Still Sports: Chariots of Fire Western: Magnificent Seven Gangster: Incredibles (why I don't know) Mystery: Usual Suspects Romantic Comedy: Moonstruck Courtroom Drama: In Cold Blood Epic: Gone With the Wind
In part 2 of the special in Which Ben Stein is the host, Animal House, The Blues Brothers and Pee-Wee's Big Adventure were voted in the 20's and The Wizard of Oz finally reached number 1 while Gone With The Wind was number 2
@yodawithsunglasses I believe it's "The Third Man."

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly is the greatest western of all time.
Quentin Tarantino said it is the most well directed film of all time.
