  • Jimmy Knepper, sublime.. I've never heard the trombone played so movingly in my whole life. Carves right into the heart, spilling into silence. You must miss him like crazy 40hole5..

  • We here hear Knepper's embouchure before Mingus's

    alleged punch. What r a n g e -- I mean, this guy made

the higher notes seem like low ones, just sliding in and

out of them. I admire, for example, Frank Rosolino's ability

to link notes fifths, even octaves apart with mere (?)

buccal pressure, but James Knepper's solo here has

to be one of the greatest trombone entries of all time.

  • @tangen40223 Hello Tangen! Thank you for your kind words. Jimmy Knepper was my father, and missed very much. I am so pleased to know that his music is speaking for him still.

  • Black Saint...Mingus masterpiece. Jimmy, I love ya too..so underrated

  • Everything incredible by Mingus seebali, yes indeed

  • Recorded in '57 and as fresh as anything.

  • The artwork of Mingus' albums is GREAT

  • Zero dislikes. Never actually seen that on any videos.

  • sinner and the black lady is incredible beyond words my friends, but then again isnt everything by mingus beyond incredible

  • This is a great Mingus track. But you go too far when you belittle "Black Saint." Repent!

  • Screw the sinner and the black lady. This is Mingus at his best.

  • One of the most beautiful melodies I've ever heard...FANTASTIC!
