Al, what is the purpose of this mod? Only reason I see is because with out that switch is always powered? Do they not have on off switches or someway to power it off until its time to use again? If not, this mod makes sense, i was just wondering.
@midrange18 Well that is just it. They stay powered all the time and if you forget (As I do) to remove the battery it will be dead next time you go to use it. That is why the switch is added.
Great video as always! I have a question for you. I added a toggle switch to my DT300R & DT400R as per you video. The 300 worked fine, but the 400 will only work pluged in now (will not work in remote) . Do you have any ideas? Thanks for all your videos always look forward to them. Have a Monster of a new year in 2011!!!
@monon1971 Well it must be a wiring issue because if it works plugged in that is because it is getting power that way but not when it is unplugged. It could be as simple as one of the wires came undone or crossed or a bad toggle that will not "turn on" so even though you switch to on, it will not really be on. That is all my ideas but I am not too sure.
heyy al man i have painted some frieght cars and wondering if u want a trade im only 12 and want a layout like yours sooooooooooo bad i would trade my loco tanker and coal car for 1 of your regular not weathered locos kk man that would be great
@ocrailfanner1995 NO the DT402D is the wireless throttle. The DT402 Super Thrittle is the SAME as the DT400 but has 28 functions instead of 12. The DT402D is the similar model as the DT400R which are both wireless but again the DT402D has 28 functions.
I did the same exact install on my club DT400s about a year ago. Nice to see it's catching on across the country. Maybe with enough of us sending this video link to Digitrax, they will install an on-off switch from the factory. Maybe not though. Yah think for $200-300 for a wireless throttle you could turn the f---ing thing off without removing the battery? Nice work here man; maybe use some heat-shrink tubing on those wire solder joints; much easier & cleaner than the black tape.
@Southernpacificman YES, you can do this on NCE too, goto: silicon valley lines.com, then "DCC", then "Presentations", click on the "NCE Radio (PDF)", there are some GREAT tips for the beginner & expert to NCE wireless. On pg.37 of the pdf, see Fix#2 for the switch install. Plus it gives simple ways to increase your wireless NCE signal. Guys at the Silicon Valley Lines are professional electronics engineers and stuff. The kind of guys that make DCC possible.
I am amazed that a company can be so smart to make this Digitrax throttle that does every thing it does, and be so stupid not to install a on off switch. Thanks for the video, very helpful.
Nice job,and digitrax should of added that idea to the 402's. Now do you by any chance know how to switch a DT400 to a DT400R? Thats where I'm at right now. Digitrax would do it but I would be without it for 4-6months lol. Thats no good
can i use this toggle switch for a killswitch fo my guitar?
MatKiller1197 2 months ago
Good mod, Al. I use NCE and did one of these for my ProCab-R, as it also trickles down the battery when it's not in use.
I also use rechargeables to save a little bit on batteries.

@MonsterRailroad so if i wanted to run a loco i would constantly have to plug it in to a port to change the speed and etc.
