exactly. I mean, if you found out that your wife was dead, and that it was YOUR fault she died, would you just shrug and say "Oh well, I'll just find me another woman?" No, I think you'd have the right to be a little upset.
In Spider-Man Web of Shadows you can "set" a bomb... so I walk away a little (too near will damage you, too far will not be cool)... change the camera position... and then COOLNESS!! Spider-Man with his badass black suit in front of a explosion which destroy enemies and launches things through the air... even making cars do little extra-explosions!!! AWESOME!!
I agree with evil laughter being so awesome, especially obviously when done right! Red vs blue also parodied it with Dr. Flowers (near the end of season 5) who's trying to find the right pitch which is pretty funny! My favorite evil laugh was easily Malificent's (from Sleeping Beauty), or the Joker's (especially Mark Hamill's), they both were scary and just evil to listen to! You know shit was going down when they started to laugh! The worst evil laugh? Imo, Jafar's from Aladdin, annoying!
@Densaku I personally like it, ESPECIALLY the old school kung fu movies, when it's done right unlike your example (from my impression of your distaste), slow-mo can be super special awesome! Perfect example of well done slow mo? Watch Jackie Chan fight scenes like Police Story 2's playground fight, or wheels on meals, slow-mo done OH so right!
My favorite cliche/tropes rarely happens live action but is EVERYWHERE in Anime, ESPECIALLY during a sword fight.
It's when two characters run at each other and they both happen to cut through each other, but whenever one of them (usually the Hero) sheathes their weapon (with the clicking sound mind you), the bad guy always seem to drop dead without knowing he was already dead.
and just to throw it in here: 'Omae wa mo shindeiru'
WHAT!? I loved the Darth Vader NOOO!!! It conveyed the pain he felt, the guilt and helped to show how all he went through, all the horrible things he did, how he basically sold his soul for nothing. It was great and helped explain how he finally went from whiny bitch to total badass
When it comes to people walking in a line, how could he not have mentioned Reservoir Dogs? I mean seriously, the opening credits of that movie had the greatest walking in a line scene EVER.
Actually, I've seen one exception to the explosion a few feet away thing. In The Hunger Games, Katniss sets off a series of mines and is blown backward out of a tree, her left ear starts bleeding all over the place, and she's deaf in it for almost the rest of the book.
@turkishvan2 k so how much do you want to bet that they're not going to do that in the movie. If they did I would be impressed but I just don't have that much faith in Hollywood anymore.
@turkishvan2 I remember that part. I honestly didn't care for the book (I won't say why cause it's a spoiler) but her being tossed like a rag-doll and going deaf was a breath of fresh air for me.
Ok in my opinion when Darth Vader yells "Noooooo!" I think its very emotional and gripping cause it shows thats when Darth Vader has officially taken over
Darth vader is Darth vader because he was in pain that him saying no is not over the top but what everyone who has everything taken from them. Anikan is in pain and it shows why he continues down the dark side making him that more relatable and even badass because he holds in that pain. Though It would have been much more dramatic if Anikan had been Badass all the way through then let out his pain in one simple word.
@thechaserv97 I'm pretty sure that the majority of the prequel haters are Harry Plinkett Review bandwagon jumpers. He does make some fantastic points, and while I wouldn't consider the prequels "great", they're good for transporting you to that SW universe and giving you that sense of wonder. Plus, it's fun to play "What I would change about the prequels". :)
I don't care if Dragon Ball Z episodes aren't considered movies, Trunks should have had a place in the no department. I mean, he has best fucking NOOOOOOOO of all time. :b
The DUMBEST Cliche ever is "Dying breath" Imagine: The main character finding a pillaged village only to find a SINGLE survivor, which ALWAYS tells them what to do/Where to go and they ALWAYS die right before their eyes.
While Tombstone was the most iconic of the "straight line" cliche, I'd have to say that the best straight line was in West Side Story when the Jets and the Sharks face up and the Jets line up on the wall. I don't know why, maybe it's because it's everything the cliche symbolizes: they're together, they're not backing down, and they mean business.
now here is a funny thing, wolverine origins has the best cliches, and still sucked, wedding crashers has the worst cliches, and it's still better than wolverine!!
I never quite understood why people hate Darth Vader's NO so much. I thought it was pretty clear what made Vader Vader was not the suit or Palpatine's declaration, but instead finding out he failed to protect Padme. That's the true turning point and therefore he's still Anakin under a suit before that NOOOO is over. It's in character
True there could've been a better word choice,or he could've not done that stupid skyward scream
Besies Luke was far whinier than Anakin anyway at first
0:38 THANK YOU FOR TELLING ABOUT THAT MOVIE! THAT SCENE HAS IN A LOOOOONG TIME BEEN IN MY MEMORY BUT I NEVER LEARNED WHAT MOVIE IT WAS IN! THAAAAAAAAAAAAANK YOU!
Actually, I think that NOOOOO! is one of the stupidest of cliches. It's like the sexy cry thing; when something happens in which people are emotionally moved or compromise, they can't freaking speak.
Also, is it me, or should Dramatic Choir be higher on the list? It is in order of coolest after all.
My favorite cliche is the badass female character. This has been around for some time and it's been used a good bit. Whether the character is the major or minor character, she is ALWAYS awesome. Examples are Beans from Rango, Catwoman, Wonder Woman, and Katara from Avatar: The Last Airbender, but MY favorite is Motoko Kusanagi from the Ghost in the Shell 1995 film. She was about to die and she didn't sceam or nothing. She had a blank face and was going to accept it. Who is more badass than that?
I love Nostalgia Critc, but seriously, I don't think the Star Wars prequels are as bad as people say they are. Are they as good as the Original Trilogy? No. But are they awful? No. The prequels are just decent. They are the prologue to the main story, and of course the prologue can't be as exciting as the main story, but it doesn't need to be. I just love Star Wars. Plus the guy reviewing it IS a big fan of the original trilogy so he knows what he's talking about. Check it out.
I'm sorry. I love NC and all, but it just really pisses me off when everybody makes such a big deal about that bit in Episode 3. The only woman Anakin ever loved in his entire life and the only person he thought understood him died. Actually, HE was the one who killed her! That's some serious heart-wrenching stuff.
@ItIsTheInvisibleMan to be fair, that was a throwback to old horror movies. george lucas is a HUGE fan of them, and that was a direct homage to frankenstein. but it does look a bit out of character....then again its star wars, its not high level cinema. :/
@TheWabbajackX idk i didnt like it because i just thought it was done badly. he walks out like a robot and gives such a non-dramatic performance. Lukes NO was great and full of emotion.
3:30, dude. shut up about his saying no in episode 3. It wasnt that his girlfriend died and he was upset. It was that his Wife died and he has lost his body and everything has gone completly wrong. Which caused him to be so hardcore.
I took the no scene for what it was and not only did I take it seriously, but I understood the reasoning. People either call it funny or whiny, but I bet they'd do the same as Vader if their wifes died. Plus, the prequel hate is so annoying to the point that I consider those films underrated. The entire internet can say otherwise, but I liked them for what they were and no one is going to force me to change my opinion just because hating on Episode I-III is the cool and in thing.
I've done the "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!" I inhaled a lot of petrol and started hallucinating. I thought I had died and was stuck in a hellish world for all eternity.
The coolest example of someone not reacting to an explosion has to be Gary Oldman in Fifth Element. Because not only is he standing still, but everybody else around him is moving. On top of that, he's smoking while that's happening. Everything about him is just so badass

Well to be fair, Amidala wasn't just his "girlfriend"
She was his true love, his wife, and the mother-to-be of his children.
He wakes up, and is told that he killed her (and presumably their children) in a fit of rage.
The sole reason he started down the path to the Dark side was to protect her.
He betrayed everyone and everything for her, and it was all for nothing.
So under the circumstances, I'd say that "Nooooo" of his was completly justified, and did not make him look weak.

lol i'm surprised he didn't use a Power Rangers clip at 5:41 . They're always walking and standing in a straight line.

3:30, dude. shut up about his saying no in episode 3. It wasnt that his girlfriend died and he was upset. It was that his Wife died and he has lost his body and everything has gone completly wrong. Which caused him to be so hardcore.

@Dullfang2

Olem1100 4 months ago
THe coolest cliche in my opinion is the dramatic walking in the heavy rain sequence like in the end of The Lion King
