AN IDEAL STRONGEST FORM OF DEMOCRACY INCLUDED (See Subchapter 3.1.2.1, Chapter 3, of Part One.).
All free people of the world and friends of Burma must also join together to censure and boycott the many nations who are helping to prop up the Military Dictatorship, economic and otherwise, to stay in power.
Their supporters include but not limited to China (largest supplier of arms and biggest trading partner to Burma), Japan and India (in exchange for fishing and logging rights, off-shore oil and gas drilling, hydro-electric power supplies) and North Korea (nuclear capability support).
No more talks or engagements with this Military Dictatorship until the immediate and unconditional release of Suu Kyi. The international community must help bring down this odious regime (and their friends and cronies) who have benefitted from their ruthless suppression of their own people. Almost 50 years of inhumane brutality is enough ...no more blood-shed, not more death of innocent people. ENOUGH!! Rise up and support for an armed resistance now.
It is good that someone as high profile as Michael Stipe and many others like him have spoken out on behalf of Aung San Suu Kyi and her cause ... to bring freedom and democracy to Burma and its people.
But there has to be more than talk. It has been a long time since Suu Kyi was put under arrest and longer still that the Military overthrew the elected parliamentary government in1962 while ordinary Burmese people have been continuously oppressed and denied their fundemental rights since then.
@verry54: Perhaps it is because she is a woman. Many men think that a courageous woman who dares forget her place and runs into trouble has gotten what she deserves. How very pitiful are the ignorant ones who think this way.
Thank you, Jean Luc, for keeping your mind open. I hope you become a trendsetter.
People throughout the world must continue to appeal to their governments to intervene and keep the pressure on the government of Myanmar (Burma) to release her. Their treatment of Aung San Suu Kyi is unacceptable and deplorable.
Why should she have stayed in England? Should she just look on while her country of birth has been brutalised for decades? I am glad and thankful that she has the courage to fight and sacrificed her personal freedom and life for the future greater good of her country and its people.
By the shores of the lake A prisoner of conscience waits Isolated but strong she stands Lovingly she holds the hope of Burmese freedom within her hands Burmas true leader has always taught that freedom from fear leads to freedom of thought Brutes and barbed wire will all be in vain Freedom is a dream that cant be contained Aung San Suu Kyi you are the flower of the spreading Padouk tree Your loving smile shall forever shine When Burma is free XXX Monica
The west has plenty of money & guns for illegal & meaningless wars fighting an invisable threat, yet not one gun can be spared for Burma. It's an outrage and the biggest shame on the many democracies we live in today not to activly pursue Aung San Suu Kyi's freedom. It's s sad day when a relatively short millitary involvement from countries like the US & UK could depose the Junta generals & place Suu Kyi where she belongs. A free Aung San Suu Kyi is a free Burma.
Why are you people saying that we will never forget Aung San Suu Kyi? The hope is NOT lost. She is still the only truly elected leader of Burma and is still around, and as long as she is here on earth, we must make sure that she gains her freedom and leads the country and its people to freedom they have never known. I suggest everyone to take time out and get involved in some way in the many campaigns for a free Burma.
we as a people together must not allow any ones freedoms to be taken away by any tyrant
please every one pray, chant, sing, dance for the condition of our world to get better,I love you Aung San Suu Kyi we will never let any one forget you,,please stop hurting her people.
@warriorjun: What does that matter? She is a bright and faithful, gentle revolutionary who believes in a better future for her fellow countrymen! You don't win the Nobel Peace Prize for being a cookie cutter media darling.
A leader as strong as mandela. I hope the cyclone disaster results somehow in her being freed and the generals being deposed. Not sure what we can do to help though. Any ideas?
Burmese military government is making country's poor and desperate. Right now, they are killing, torturing, and imprisoning the peaceful protesters with the help of their master CHINA. Please boycott upcoming 2008 OLYMPICS to help free Burma from brutal regime and it's accomplice. Thank you.
Tenberken : She is under house arrest for more than 11 years from now. The generals do not give her a chance to get out from house. The junta knows that they are the thieves and thugs, and if she really speaks before the people, millions of people will follow her. In 2003 the military govt. attempt to kill her on the way, but she survived the attempt. A strong int'l action will bring some fruitful thnigs. She doesn't need to teach a lesson how to handle the crisis, but let's make her speak.
I respect Aung San Suu Kyi but I don't understand why she and the others don't try to win the soldier's hearts. if it is really about peace and independence one must get rid of all ideologies. someone posted that soldiers in mandalay disobeyed the order to shoot people. everyone should encourage every soldier to disobey!
Why the hell doesn't America and the West HELP these people? All our fine talk about freedom -- especially by useless moron George Bush -- makes me want to vomit!
When will we back up our pious stammerings about human liberty with ACTION and DEEDS? Goddamnit!!
@HONGKONGHIBBY No blood rubies, either! Bring pressure to bear on China for propping up the illicit government and economy of the so-called nation of Myanmar!

She choose to live for the people, giving up her personal interests and her family. We will not find another leader like Aung San Suu Kyi.
